is there a doctor in the house? or a recreational drug user?

:P

ok, so here's my problem:

I burp. Alot. Excessively. I'm not the only one who has noticed which sucks, but it's something I have to do or the enormous amount of pressure that builds in my stomach/throat is unbearable. And we aren't talking baby burps here. A belch is probably more apt to describe it.

I've seen a specialist...he told me I was stressed and needed a boyfriend. I don't believe that. And what the fuck kind of doctor tells you that you need to get a boyfriend. THANKS, ASSHOLE! Another doctor said it's acid reflux. Really? I didn't know EVERYTHING (including breathing) could cause acid reflux.

Nothing particular causes this. Just eating or ingesting anything in general does the job and makes it last..I dunno...days.

Another doctor put me on a series of acid reflux treatments of which none of them reduced the problem at all.

I can trace the symptoms as far back as about 3 years ago when two friends and I decided that drinking a half gallon-ish of freshly made shroom tea was a great idea.

The 'boyfriend' doctor said this couldn't be the cause because things like that clear from your system. I personally think such a traumatic experience (and boy was it traumatic) could cause permanent damage.

Any other suggestions? Should I just keep going from doctor to doctor until someone finds a cause and maybe even a cure? I've tried EVERYTHING. Yoga, therapy, and (duh) skydiving to reduce stress. Herbs, vitamins, medicines. Nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing.

It's embarassing, uncomfortable, and unladylike.

Why me?B|

Do you chew gum frequently? This would promote swallowing air.

Do you have alternating constipation and diarrhea? If so, consider Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Haven't chewed gum in about 5 years...hurts my jaw too much.

And no significant issues in the bathroom area either. I don't even toot a lot. It's all about burping in this body. I do thank my lucky stars that the problem is burping and not farting...:)

I trust NOTHING that was thought up at a gold coast bonfire!!! hahah:S:S:S

and as for the shrooms...well... we survived. barely. and now i burp. :P

And I don't know if getting a boyfriend would actually reduce my stress levels, but hell, I'd give it a try. Where do I sign up!

some things to consider
1.) when you saw the previous doc...did they do any bloodwork. the reason i ask is you should be checked for h pylori which if comes back + you would need acid blockers as well as antibiotics. if it is this if you take the regimen the symptoms should subside and you are hopefully back to a somewhat normal state (who the hell defines normal anyway).

2.)gi specialist would be great....you might have a hiatal hernia or problems with your gut....it is something to think about....might be minor to could be something serious so if the your primary isn't checking stuff out ask for a gi referral...they will do an upper gi or endoscopy which will probably tell you the answer and if it doesn't it will at least rule out the worse case scenario -

3.) think about your diet....are you eating a lot of foods that are gas producing; i.e carbonated beverages, alcohol, onions, broccoli, cauliflower....just to name a few culprits. Sometimes a change in diet goes a long way.

hope that is helpful......I am in no way a gi doc/midlevel specialist - but those are some things that came off the top of my head at 345am after just getting off work - hope you find some relief soon.;)

I've had numerous counts of bloodwork done in the past year and so far they say all is well. Maybe I'll get it done again and ask specifically for them to check for h pylori.

gi specialist

That's the boyfriend doctor...he is a gastroenterologist. (sp?) I've had an upper endoscopy, barium test, and ultrasound of my gallbladder.

As for the diet, no doubt about it!! I love vegetables and fiberlicious things so I know that doesn't do any good. I try to lessen it as much as possible, but I plan on seeing a nutritionist when I'm back in NY.

Thanks for your input!!!

TMJ is another sure sign of extreme stress. Check with your dentist in all of this to make sure you're not grinding your teeth down at night while you sleep.

If your burps are related to heartburn, then I suggest you look at a natural acid reducer that can help reduce or control the issue.

Probio-Wellness Acid Balance has worked great for me the past two weeks far more than the "corporate drugs" and it's natural.

Diet or certain foods can be a big part in the inability for the body to fully digest and absorb, Try removing one item that you consume on your regular diet and see if that helps. I know it takes time but you could find you just have a issue with a certain food or fluid.

Also look at getting Chewable Papaya Pills, eat one after every meal, helps increase the bodies ability to digest foods.

Or maybe you just do need that boyfriend your doctor so suggested ... lol:)

Drink papaya juice everyday. It has enzymes that break down digestive acids. Drink about 8 or 10 oz, in the AM. Give it at least a week. You can find it at most groceries. Brand I drink is Knudsons(?). Plus it's good for your hair and skin too. After I got used to the taste, I crave it. It's great. It helped more than I ever imagined! I've been drinking it for 10 years. Beats anything my doctors tried. Good luck! :)

Aerophagia is a pretty common problem, caused by (basically) swallowing air or other gas (like carbonation from soda.) Some things that can cause it:

Drinking carbonated drinks
Chewing gum
Smoking
Eating fast
Talking while eating
Using some dental devices (like dentures)
Stress
Lactose (if lactose intolerant, even a little)

Some remedies:

Eat slower
Eat smaller quantities more frequently
Change of diet

(not a doctor but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last weekend)
