I've been baiting a scammer who I happened to pick up while trying to sell some equipment here on Dizzy.com. Here are some excerpts from our e-mail exchanges, I thought you folks might find some of it's pretty funny

Sorry about my unavailablity over the last few hours. I have recieved
your e-mail and I apologize for the delay.

Unfortunately, there is no Western Union in my area so I had to take
alternate measures in order to make sure you receive your money and
property in a timely fashion. I sent the parachute equipment along to
the address you sent me. I assume it is the correct address as it is
what you gave me in your correspondence. My only concern is that there
will be someone home at the address you gave me to collect the package
when it arrives. Although it is not customary to send cash through the
mail, I took it upon myself to do so in order to expedite this process
in a timely manner. When you receive the parachute equipment you will
find an envelope enclosed in the package. The envelope contains $3,400
U.S.Dolllars. It is very important that there is someone available to
collect the package when it arrives as it does contain a large amount
of cash and very expensive parachute equipment as well.

I sent the package via the U.S. Post Office. It was very expensive
to send the package FEDEX or UPS, so unfortunately there is no
tracking number.

I hope the package finds you well, send my best regards to your sick
mother. I hope she feels well soon enough.

I awoke the morning to realize the error of my ways, I wish to send
you a heartfelt apology. However, I also need to inform you that I do
not actually live in Zephyrhills, Florida. I was there on a business
trip and have returned to my home last night ( I actually live in New
York City where I am a Wall St. executive). This is the reason that
the Western Union locations you have sent will not work for me.

Unfortunately, I boarded my flight last night before I received
your last correspondence, and have no way to retrieve the package that
I have sent to you. So, after extensive research and pulling a few
strings I have managed to redirect the package so that you may pick it
up from the Royal mail location of your choice, so long as it is in
London.

There is a catch however, as you will have to follow my
instructions precisely. My sister Anita ( who lives in London) is a
very powerful figure at the Royal Mail and has arranged for the
package I sent to be intercepted and delivered directly to you. Here
is what I will need from you.:

1) Please choose a pickup location. This must be a post office
location in Greater London area ONLY. E-mail this location to me
immediatley

2) Please choose a pickup date. Your package is scheduled to arrive at
the main terminal on October 25th. It will be ready for pickup at the
location of your choosing the following day (October 26th) between
noon and 1:00 p.m.
If you cannot make this date, please let me know IMMEDIATELY. It is
imperative that we do-not miss each other as my sister is a very busy
woman and will be delivering your purchase and cash in person on her

become somewhat of a clandestine operation, we will have to use an
alternative mode of identification.The way we will work this will be

I will need you to make a sign aprroximately 10 inches by 12 inches.

large size file of the picture so that I can forward this picture to
my sister Anita peronally.

It is VERY important that you follow my instruction as this will be
the ONLY way to identify yourself to pick up your package. On the 26th
of October ( or later date of your choosing) you must be at the
preselected post office location between Noon and 1:00P.M. You must
have the sign around your neck and it must be large enough to be seen
from a good distance.

The sign will be the ONLY way for Anita to identify you. Please
make it legible with large bold print. Send me the picture as soon as
possible so that I can forward it to Anita.

P.S. I was up all last night making sure that you recieve your
package promptly. I spent many hours making long distance phone calls
to the UK and did not sleep a wink. I have gone out of my way to make
sure that you recieve your money and equipment, even though this was
your mistake sending me the $5,000 instead of the $1,600 we agreed on.
I am not mad, but please make sure you send the proper amount the next
time you do business overseas. This has been very hard on me, and I
have been an honest person. Someday if you find a dishonest person
they make keep your hard earned money.

Yeah the scammer will buy a cashiers check for say $5.00 and then change it to say $5,000.00. You deposit the check and it clears. Meanwhile you send off the product and additional money or they pick it up. Two weeks later the bank realizes what happened and they take the money from your account. Scammer laughs.

These scammers also target lonely men and women on singles sights to get them to cash the cashiers checks.

I jacked around with this same guy myself. When I told him that I was "my son" and I'd been reading through my father's email after his death in a "tragic skydiving accident". The guy didn't even offer his condolences, he just started right back to his scam.

I screwed around with him for a while asking for skydiving references, since I couldn't sell a high performance canopy like my Navigator 280 to just anyone.

I guess that I need to send him another email and tell that I recovered from my untimely death.

Many of these scams are run out of Nigeria. They are reffered to as 419 Scams or Nigerian Scams.

The location of the victim's computer as well as the jurisdiction of the suspect.

Unfortunately local law enforcement really can't do much with it, if the scammer isn't local. Most aren't local, most are in another country. Scotland Yard has made some good arrests with the help of other countries, but don't hold your breath. You'd be better off realizing its a scam and playing their game to screw with them.

There are some good stories where people have reverse scammed the scammers.
