Slippery ZP

Recommended Posts

Okay I did a search and couldnt see anything, so maybe it deep in some thread somewhere, but here it goes. How long does ZP stay slippery? Now I know there is different ZP out there so for some help it is a Safire2 from Icarus. But if you have any idea on any canopy that would be great.

The least slippery ZP fabric is made by Gelvenor Fabric Mills in South Africa. Gelvenor still calendarizes (pressing with hot rollers) their fabric before coating it with silicone.
Perseverance (Great Britain) and most of the ?American mills (i.e. Performance Textiles) just silicones the bejezuz out of their fabric, making it really slippery.

Would there be any hints as to which canopy manufacturers use fabric made at said mills?

South Africa might faintly imply Aerodyne, but then again it might mean anyone at all. Or nobody :S

well if you don't like zp go get a f111 canopy - packs easy but flys like shit after 200 jumps :)

otherwise: live with it

edit: als for gelvenor fabric - it is used to make nitros B| packs easy from jump # 1 :)

If only I was going to be flying one from jump #1 (or any time in the next few years) too B|

Still, worth knowing. Like everything I spose.

you wouldn't want to fly a nitro right now - the largest is a 150. get some jumps under your belt and if you plan to downsize to a 150 somewhere in the future demo one - you'll love it from the first moment :)

Older Aerodyns, like my triathlon, use it. A few years ago they switched over.

My understanding is that after a 1000 or so jumps, it will become a bit more porous. Long past when I'm oing to worry about it.

I talked with the Icarus service center this afternoon and they said it will stay slippery for about 100 jumps.
