This takes me back to the local meet-market when I was in college.

Without a doubt:

Still on my "anthem" list, along with a choice few others. But of all of them, this is the one that was out and popular when I was listening to it most.

That I loved this song just goes to show you I was always meant to be a skydiver::P

:| Unfortunately there is no *facepalm* smilie

For me it's Tim McGraw "Don't Take the Girl"
or Bryan White "Rebecca Lynn" and everything else from that self titled album.

I didn't start listening to any rock until high school.

That also makes me think of my childhood. Most 90s country does :)

Neil Young's "Heart of Gold". The summer bewteen my junior and senior year in high school. This song was playing on my stereo when I called to ask a girl out who had two older brothers and one of them had the nickname whacko. My brain was telling me this was a bad idea but I really liked her. We ended up dating for 5 years and she became my first true love. Not that high school puppy love bullshit. But alas by the end of college we had different ideas about the direction of our lives. She wanted to get married have kids and live in the same town we grew up in. I wanted to travel, see the world, my thought was to grab life by the throat and choke the ever loving shit out it. In the end we both got what we wanted. She is married had 2 kids, lives one block from her parent's house. I got to do all the things I wanted to do so in the end it is all good. But everytime I hear that song I can't help but smile.

I remember a lot of late Beatles stuff on the radio, but whether or not that was contemporary I couldn't really say. Quite possible since I'm a child of the 60s.

Also, my mum's limited record collection means that these always take me straight back:
California Dreamin'
The Last Thing On My Mind
The Times They Are a-Changin'
Turn! Turn! Turn!

Unfortunately she was a fan of The Seekers, and I had no idea as a young kid that these were other people's songs. When I finally got exposed to The Mamas and the Papas, and Tom Paxton, and Dylan, and The Byrds, I thought their versions were ok but not a patch on the 'originals'! :D

I hear Twardo is pissed because music had not even been invented yet when he was in high school.:D:D:D:D

He gets teary eyed whenever there is a dinosaur program on discovery channel and he hear the Tyrannosaurus call.

I can remember lots of Elvis and Buddy Holly and the like....when I was little and I do believe we were listening to the Grand Ole Opry.... every Saturday night. The thing that I REALLLY remember when music was becoming a part of my life.... was the MOTOWN sound... Music you could actually dance to.:)

You sure triggered some good memories! When I was about eleven, my dad gave me an RCA 'portable radio. An old tube type that would also work off a 9-volt battery. Late at night, I'd listen to 'The Oprey'. That old radio would also pick-up the 'WLS Barndance', 'The Wheeling Jamboree'. I could recieve the 100,000 watt stations along the border and if the weather was just right, I could listen to ''Wolfman Jack'. I had that radio for a lot of years, till it 'got lost' in my travels. Like so many others, I watched 'American Bandstand' every day after school. Thanks for your post!

I forgot the title and had to sing the whole first verse to myself! Ha! But I always hear this in my head, and it reminds me of tobacco barns, dry dust, my pony, Squirt, and raspberries. Mmmmm! Born to be Wild!
can I borrow a jump ticket real quick?

Carries me back to the summer of '78, my cross
country trip out west, jumping at the Nationals Boogie in Richmond, and finally reaching the So Cal skydiving scene. Every time I hear that sax riff, I'm running out of a DC-3 all over again.

Clicky fixed because it's such a cool song.

When you said "sax riff" I figured it was this.
