I suspect it was one of the cables running down to the control bar. But even stepping through frame-by-frame, there is too much blur at the moment it happens."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. JohnMitchell 14 #6 July 7, 2016 Strange the maple seed spin he went into after the structural failure. I wonder if would have almost been survivable. Thanks again to Jim Handbury, the inventor of the hang glider reserve. Chalk up another save, brother.
jakee 1,255 #7 July 7, 2016 That was incredibly violent Good work just being able to get the reserve out. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
keithbar 1 #8 July 7, 2016 Just saw the video aired on t.v. they showed a still close up of the hang glider's eyes afterwords. The g forces were high enough to fill the whites of his eyes with blood. That is a creepy look.i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am . TampaPete 35 #10 July 8, 2016 How did he deploy the reserve?
Phil1111 911 #11 July 8, 2016 TampaPeteHow did he deploy the reserve? The reserve is in a a deployment bag with a handle on it. You grab the handle pulling the whole reserve out of the container and throw it away. There is a long 20' bridal cord specifically designed to allow the canopy to get away from the glider in case its spinning or the glider trys to entangle the canopy. About 2:45 there is a deployment but the parachute is not connected to the harness. Thats why he continues to fly uninterrupted. The velcro is designed to peel and they are trying to pull in the wrong direction. Practice makes perfect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNuU2ntbBI0
