  1. here's the clicky to that forum We want a Collegiate Forum!!!">http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=397804;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread">We want a Collegiate Forum!!!
  2. Here's my suggestion for the competition. As we all remember at Eloy the whole discussion of 30 secs of working time. That was made so smaller dropzones that could only go to 10 could still bid for collegiates. My suggestion would be to make the working time up the meet director. Honestly I thought that if we were all given that extra 15 seconds of working time most of us could have drilled out a couple extra points. I understand though why it was set to 30 secs working time, but if we leave the working time up to the comp director of that year then, for example, this year is at lake wales, turbins etc so 45 seconds of working time would still allow us to pull by our designated License altitude, 95% of us hold C or above if we're freeflying. Anyone else agree with this. Also, if the forums for suggestions etc, i posted a thread about opening a topic just for collegiate skydivers kinda like the womans forum. go there and respond if you would like to see it happen. There are a bunch of us out there and we have our own things to talk about and sometimes it's a pain in the ass trying to find Dave or George or Chris' responses in the freeflying forum etc. blue skies Chris aka Flash
  3. I don't know about that club but KSUPC (Kansas State University Parachute Club) has been at our university since 1962. We now own and operate our own dz and aircraft and that we know of are the last and or only ones who do so
  4. I would like to suggest that a seperate forum for collegiate skydivers is created. There are a lot of us on the site and our posts get bounced around or not found by others. This year the freefly event went well at collegiates and myself and several others would like to add and comment on it, as well as the fiasco with the increase of registration etc i think it would be good where the college skydivers can get together, meet, speak our minds and get things together all in one place. Blue skies Chris "Flash" Armstrong KSUPC
  5. hey guys how's it going? i've had this reocurring dream lately when i'm skydiving, i fall, i'd say it's probably a hop n pop or something, always from some odd type of platform or open aired aircraft. i exit, get stable and then try to pull, my right hand won't move fast and i struggle to pull the PC. when i finally pull, the canopy starts to inflate and i find myself hitting the ground, not injured but in shock. the dream doesn't awake me like i hit or anything, but i have had this dream where i pull too low and find myself landing on my stomach right as it deploys. has anyone else had some weird dreams about skydiving? i generally am not a low puller, in the saddle latest by 2 grand or just in a long snivle as my protrack flat lines at 2200. it's just weird and i'm just curious of anyone else having dreams blue skies Chris aka Flash
  6. it's that thing we do when we track and pull, other than that we don't know what it is lol. blue skies Flash
  7. from experience, it really hurts when you land off the lit up landing area in a odd field. oh and did i mention there was a train behind me too haha. i like the lights
  8. We have a c-182, we're launching a 4 way circle, then the sides come in and i go under. the atempt was to then have me swing over to the opposite and then have him grab my legs and turn it into a todem. but the formation always funnels
  9. Hey everyone I need some help. We've been trying to build a 4 way hybrid and with 3 attempts it hasn't worked yet. We've got the 3 way down really good (me hanging from the chest straps) and then for the 4 way we wanted to launch a 4 way, have me grab the chest straps, swing my legs over to the front floater and then have him hang from my legs. but every time we try it the 4 way funnels when i move my grip to the chest straps. i don't know if we're just doing it really weird or what? does it have something to do with the floater offsetting the fallrate when i go under? any advice on how to build this monster without having the 4th guy swoop under to my legs and then build it from there? we're limited to 10grand at our dz so launching a 4 way seemed the best way to go. all and any advice is welcome, even feel free to tell me i'm crazy for trying to build it blue ones chris aka flash
  10. hell yeah i'll me 21 in 19 days so that means i can party hardy in south beach, it's somewhat of a drive, but would probably be worth it. i also have a house in naples, 2 hours from lake wales
  11. oops posted something incorrectly. it shows we tied for 2nd. good job everyone
  12. Hey i wasn't saying anything bad about vegas at all. i just thought it was odd that you guys paid 120 to enter comp and then 127 a person to compete and then didn't show up for the awards and food etc. but that's cool, next year it's in wales and we'll see you then again for sure. next year, new years in DAYTONA!!! blue ones and good comp chris
  13. You guys shouldn't have gone to Vegas, and you would have gotten your free jump and medals. Kinda upsetting honestly. We tied with you guys for 2nd place and you didn't even show to get your awards, they almost gave us your medals because of the tie and you guys not showing Flash aka Collisions = points
  14. I started wearing mine about 20 jumps ago, but i only wear them in our 182. I jumped all this new year from otters, king airs and porters and never wore them because the climb was so fast and not as noisy. I've noticed though that by wearing them i can actually hear more in the plane now and don't have to yell
  15. Honestly, I made a fuss about the increase of price for the FF event. It was posted as 160 per team, then we showed up and it was 127 per person. In the end though, for 5 rounds of competition with the top freefliers in the world as our coaches and video it was worth it. I know KSU had a good time and what i learned about my flying from Steve Curtis was worth my 5 coach jumps for 127. The other thing was the increase from 100 to 120 for competition. Larry Hill gave us all a free jump after competition, so we ended up paying 107 instead of 100, it was well worth it!!! KSU will be back at Lake Wales next year hopefully taking gold and silver! Blue ones Collissions = points
  16. I say we go for it, let's throw together a FF Collegiate dive after copetition and show the world that young, broke college students with 100 or more, or even less jumps, know how to rock the FF scene. I'll get some good stills and I know some guys who can get the videos. Anyone else in for it? It might be a zoo dive but wtf right? AggieDave why aren't you guys putting together a FF team? I thought last year you guys did great? Britt are you FF'ing? Blue ones Chris aka Flash KSU
  17. K-State will have 2 freefly teams entering the comp. so we'll have to see what happens. See everyone in a week!!! Blue skies, f*ck finals
  18. Yes I do think some of us know it's going to happen, have all the signs but never understood what they were. Jump 17, it was going to be a fun jump, a bunch of new stuff. 360's, tracking, docking with the JM. Matt taught me all the things I needed to know for the jump and then pulled me off to the side and drilled me on emergency procedures. I was current, it had only been a week since my last jump, but I went along with the advice from a senior jumper. I put my gloves on for the first time, went over the look reach pull 1 thous 2 thous check a couple times on the ground and then got into the plane. In the plane I kept touching my handle, making sure it was kept properally, making sure I could grad it with my gloves on. Matt double checked it, made sure etc. But nothing at that point was scaring me, I was just observing it. We got out of the plane. Did a swoop exit, docked with my JM, 360' dock, then a back flip, turn 180, track. 4K wave off, 3500 pull. 3000 ft Clink!!!! I had a line over, dead center of the canopy. Flew my reserve back to the DZ while the others went after the canopy and freebag. I remember thinking, "WOW this canopy is awesome" and then remembering why I was under this new canopy. I sat there histerically for maybe a good 10 mins after, then we went over my pack job, repacked and got back in the plane. I've never felt that way again
  19. intentional cutaways can be done wearing a harness under your rig. Set up the cutaway canopy with risers and a 3 ring system. But the cutaway harness on and then your rig on over it. You can jump out with the canopy you intend to cut away in a box, in a bag, a d bag, anything just to keep it contained until you clear the plane. Then you can cut away, freefall (ofcourse we're talking higher altitudes) and then deploy your main as you would normally. "I am not recommending that anyone tries this stunt described above. I may know something or nothing at all. Consult your local S&TA before conducting any type of cutaway"
  20. I did my 100th naked, 22 degrees at alt. it was the last day of classes for the summer. I did my 200th at freaks with another member, it was an 8 way, and the last day before classes started. For your 500th, do a rodeo or a mr bill
  21. Yeah that's very true because it allows you to simulate somewhat the weightlessness that you kinda experience in freefall, you all understand what i mean
  22. I made 23 jumps at my home DZ, then they came and started to repave the runway so we picked up shop and actually moved the DZ for the time being, so that would be my first move to a different landing area but same club. I had 40 jumps with I went to Lake Wales, 60 when I went to Brasil and then since then i have been to. I've been to 7 DZ's and jumped, should be 9 but the weather sucked at both Titusville and Sebastian and then Couch Freaks
  23. Yeah Sabre's will do that. I had a hard opening on mine. 170, 1.45:1, opened so hard it broke the skin on my legs and left an outline of my legstraps. But doesn't sound as hard as yorus was. I've found that by rolling the HECK out of the tail up top first, then rolling the rest slows down the openings. Ya know the ones that stand youup slowwing, you feel yourself slowing down and then it snivvles above your head... Oh those are nice. I haven't done anything different to my sabre, no pocket on the slider etc. Just roll the tail TIGHT!!! and make sure you roll the nose and stuff it as well of course
  24. A guy at our DZ just got a new rig from Parachutes de France and he hasn't had any problems with his harness or openings. He loves it and i tried it on and was impressed as well, I don't have the balls to jump his Springel 120
  25. Try opening your legs some as well to track flatter and allow for air to pass thru, making you more stable. This helps you from chipping
