  1. One way I worked on getting into a nice straight sit, take a box or a crate or something and set it against a wall. Try to get something that allows you to sit on it and keep your knees at a 90 angle. then lean up against the wall and notice how your position is slightly arched. This is what causes you to slide backwards. Waht you want to do is keep your head level and your back up flat against the wall. Once you get adjusted to this position, you can try it on your own without the support under you butt and mold yourself into that shape. keep in mind though, the pressure on your legs when you practice will be different because you are actually holding your body up, but i found this is a good way to hold the 90 90 90 position and straighten out yoru back after you see if you were dearched or not
  2. I think the best way to do it at first is from a side dock. If you're trying to do a mind warp, the best way to start doing it is have the person, or yourself dock from the side. Get used to having to look at the person upside down and moving your hand on the side which could cause your to turn or cork. Once you get used to, couldn't say it any better than dave, just do it instead of thinking it, try it with one hand in front of you. Remember you always want to stay stable and symetric. I also strongly urge you to try it to the side before straight out, that way if you cork, you don't have someone directly on top of you and infront
  3. I've found a couple of ways to exit our 182. The best one, like many have said is to stand on the step facing the tail and jump out and go right into your sit. For group sits that you want to fly, have one person on the step and the other hanging backwards on the strut, just make sure the guy on the strut leaves a split second after the one off the step to keep relative off the exit. The other way to do it is almost like a flower exit off the step. Have one guy facing into the plane and the other looking at the wing tip. Have a arm hold, but when you exit, roll it off, just like a horny gorilla, but don't lock legs. When you feel your body coming back up, stick out your arms. A good way to practice getting stable after exiting from different positions is to go out and from a sit, do a back flip and on the rotation, try to stick yourself back in the sit. Do the same with other positions. Once you get that nailed, you can exit in a spinning head down and transition directly into a sit (my fav )
  4. Hey Matt, you can put a 6 inch bridle extension on it and start pyscho packing if you're having a hard time putting it in the bag. Alex pyscho packs and Jill does too, talk to with them
  5. Sorry Joel, but I'll be sure to say hi to anyone and everyone you want me too... And don't sigh, you and Tricia should hook up, you were interested in her at Freaks. Shoot you had more game than I did.
  6. No we turned more points than that! It was just messed up, ya know, trying to fly on our bellies last year. Kinda hard when we were all freeflyers. But you're just jealous because you can't go arent ya
  7. Who knows, but by the looks of it, i don't have too many people i'm competing against at collegiates
  8. yeah sticker shock sucks huh? But you have your other car you could drive, or bum a ride from someone else
  9. Sell your new truck and then you can afford to go to Eloy for the Boogie. What else could you ask for, 13 bucks to 13,500!
  10. Yeah you're right! But you did a pretty good job yourself this year with all the beads and the"show your tits" thing with kurt. Hmm i didn't pick up anyone at freaks, so yeah, competition is my best area. I didn't suck last year and collegiates with 40 jumps, this year i'm sure to take home a medal
  11. try to get it and let me know, i'd like to take a look at it and i'm sure his mom would too
  12. Brit, yeah we met last year, it was my first collegiates, Geoff was a great friend of my and he has inspired a lot of my skydiving. That is awesome that you made a memorial for him, i'm going to take a look at it now. Are you guys driving or flying to eloy? We need to set up camps together this year like you guys did 2 years ago Chris
  13. Hey, who's going to collegiates? What school are you from, and which events are you competing in? I'm from KSU, doing FF and Sport Accuracy Just curious as to who else is going to Eloy for the comp and BOOGIE!!! Blue ones Flash
  14. i started about a year ago, have 225 jumps to date Manta 288 - 30 jumps (.86) Sabre 210 145 jumps (1.18) Sabre 170 45 jumps and counting (1.45) Soon to come Cobalt 170, I'm going to stay with my current wing loading for the time being, but would like a canopy with more performance Flare when you hear the crick... thump, roll, bounce, crap, ouch Flash
  15. thatnks again for the advice everyone. does anyoen know of a website where i can read and look at pictures for head up and head down positions etc? i know i had found one a long time ago, when i was a student and thought i'd never get into this stuff hahah flash
  16. yes i'm comfortable using a docked exit, but i prefer to fly the exit so i can watch what the student is doing and give him pointers on getting into the sit. i had never thought about that technique with going into a slight stand and leaning back, that makes perfect sense. i guess i was always concerned dropping down below the other person because we stay relative, just have a long distance between us, but as you said, by exposing my back i am cupping the same ammount of air and can propel myself foward. thanks for the advice, if anyone has more, i'm listening! blue ones Chris aka Flash
  17. I've got a question for everyone. I jump at a smaller dz that goes to 10 grand, so that limits the time we have to do stuff in the air. when jumping with newbie's or beginners to the freefly world, usually off the step they roll onto their back and tend to back slide quit a bit. i can track towards them in my sit, but there have got to be a faster way, it just doesn't seem like i'm doing something right to close the distance. i bring my feet foward and point my toes, then i lean back just a little. is there anything else anyone knows of that i could try? i have about 150 sits, so i'm still learning. blue ones Chris aka Flash
  18. Yes Matt was a jumper with us, he was my jumpmaster and friend. We are really unsure what happen at that moment exactly and prob will never know. He was taken to Ft Dodge hospital, then was transported to Des Moines. There he had heart surgery because of a torn aorta but is in full recovery. He will be up in Iowa for another 4-6 weeks while he recovers. There is no brain damage or loss of feeling anywhere and he is going to be ok. I appreciate the concerns of all and especially would like to thank the 2 emt's that helped Matt out after he landed. I couldn't pull myself together enough to be helpful. I never said thanks but I would like to do so, if you were one of the 2 guys who took care of him, god bless you both! you saved our friends life and I'm sure he is very greatful just like we all are. 19. no nothing out of the ordianary has happen on the dives, just all of a sudden this started. the only problem i have with my left elbow was from a motorcycle wreck and i dislocated my unler (sp) nerve in the lower part of the joint. but the pain i am getting is between my forearm and bicept. as fare as position in my sit, should i try bending my elbow a little instead of straight out behind me?
  20. For the last 2 weeks, after a sit fly, i'll land and take my gear off and start to let the rush get out of my body. at about that time, my left arm goes numb and i can't lift it really anymore. really bad pain in my elbow and forearm. has anyone ever had this happen to them or know of anything to prevent this from happening? is it bad body position maybe? i'm just starting to worry about the numbness happening in the air and not being able to flare, or pull my handles if i have to. please, anyone let me know if you have any idea blue ones chris "flash" armstrong
  21. i got a really great suit from freak n' fly suits. they are made by downwind in the loft at lake wales. she did a really great job and i had my suit in a week or a little over. the price was really decent too. i got my flames and everything put on, express shipped to me and it costs me 210. did a really great job designing it for me too because i'm a big boy and fall fast. heavy cotton in teh legs and arms slowed me down so i can now fly with my buddies, also made head downs sooooo much easier. blue ones flash
