  1. Good news everyone! After searching for somewhere to cut out my pieces for six months, I've been allowed to use the basement under my flat. I've put down some hardboard and I've just about finished assembling the cardboard patterns. I've already cut out a new slider and sewn it together. I will try to get pictures at some point.
  2. I don't doubt you, but Ravens seem to measure particularly large, not just in comparison to PD products.
  3. One thing to note is that the Ravens are not measured the same way as some other canopies. If you put a Raven II (218) next to a PDR 218, the Raven will look about a size smaller.
  4. No. It is not. Gosh, that was easy wasn't it?
  5. It won't hurt to try a 190 for a while.
  6. Perhaps he checked his altimeter after landing to make sure it was zeroed correctly or it hadn't just stopped. That'd be my first reaction after landing.
  7. Hello everyone I've been jumping for a while now, but I have only recently been assessed with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, with some symptoms of ADHD. I do not currently take any medications for this. I'd like to know what it's like for other skydivers 'on the spectrum'. What you struggle with, what you excel at etc. Happy jumping
  8. I am not here to mock people and their religious beliefs, much as I would like to. The problem with answering the question 'Does God exist?' is there is very little evidence either way. What I also find interesting, is how similar spiritual connections seem to be to mental illness, delusions etc. Not that I am slamming anyone who believes in God.
  9. I think he's talking about the rib section rather than the cell width across the span. Like on this foil, where the bottom skin curves upwards towards the nose. [inline sim_2016_small.png] There's some aerodynamic stuff going here which I don't really understand, but apparently it's a better design, which makes me wonder why all the manufacturers don't do it. I'm guessing construction simplicity or maybe a strength thing. Loads of old Paraflite canopies used the 7808 foil.
  10. I went down to the dropzone this weekend and got to see all the riggers there (I even managed to jump ). One thing that was mentioned was that it would be very helpful if I had some drawings to go from. Does anybody have anything like this, paper copy or digital? I'm going to contact the manufacturers, but I don't think they'll give up even their older designs easily.
  11. Just because you don't understand something, or it doesn't have any meaning to you, it does not make it any less true. If you can come up with a better explanation for subatomic behaviour and supply lots of evidence for it, we might start taking you seriously.
  12. That is simply untrue, and not a good idea to get into your head.
  13. I don't know, but I would guess that it requires less force to push the slider down twisted lines (at least initially) than properly spread lines. I've never really thought about it. The other thing is that if one riser is higher than the other, then the slider is no longer flat up at the stops. I don't know what happens then either.
  14. The thing I always think about when I see these type of things is whether I would make that mistake. It looks so obvious when it's pictured and you know you're looking for something. That RSL one took me far too long to notice.
  15. Any intelligent person will not say that God does not exist. You can say that you don't believe in God and that there is no evidence to suggest that you should.
  16. I wonder what the drag reduction is compared to a tri-cell.
  17. It depends. I'm far from an expert on this, but I think the Fury will be better if you want to learn how that kind of canopy handles, you may just not like it for everyday jumping. If you're going to be filling up your logbook with hop n pops and accuracy approaches, the Fury would probably be better. Otherwise, go for the Spectre.
  18. Sorry to divert the conversation a bit, but looking at the trim charts, the Raven seems to be only an in or two shorter on the c and d lines. Surely there's something else going on here?
  19. I put it in some boiling water for an hour, and it tasted just fine. I am not much of a chef though.
  20. Get a 210 or a 190, and really learn how to fly it to its limits. When choosing a rig, select your canopy sizes first, then find a container that matches those sizes. As a great man once said, my opinion is worth just as much as you paid for it.
  21. How would that help?It would help prevent brake release via the slider coming down. Velcro has a high shearing force.
