  1. Here is a picture of the setup Hellis is talking about. I found this photo on United Parachute Technologies website under the Vector SE section.
  2. Skydive Dallas usually has a DC-3 for their American Revolution Boogie, and I believe Skydive Arizona has a balloon.
  3. That's a good point! I guess a cutaway is pretty much a dead air exit and spring loaded reserve pilot chutes seem to work just fine.
  4. Maybe a BaseR container with a static line made for base jumping might work? http://www.jumpshack.com/baser.htm https://www.apexbase.com/accessories/static-line-take-away-system
  5. Pack it in a rental rig and take it up for a test jump!
  6. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to try and static line from a balloon with the same type of gear that is used to make static line jumps from airplanes. When you make a static line jump from an airplane, you have 100mph wind to snatch the pilot chute. The spring loaded pilot chutes used in the static line gear I've seen probably wouldn't work well at slow speeds.
  7. Pretty spooky thread. I was browsing the forums today and saw this post from "LeroyDB". He's no longer with us.
  8. The one thing brah did right was pick an appropriate wingsuit canopy. Grade: D-
  9. Skydiving requires no physical fitness; it's sort of like NASCAR.
  10. Can never go wrong with a tube exit! Get some people with GoPro's to come along so you can get the expression on everybody's face.
  11. Arch, pull, eat the carrot, flare. That's all ya gotta know!
  12. That looked like something out of a video game, surreal.
  13. Make sure you don't pay too much for somebody's old gear! People often try to dump their old $#@+ on newbies before it depreciates to $0. You can pickup a brand new rig from chutingstar for $6,250. If you assume that a rig has a useful life of around 20 years, then I wouldn't pay anymore than: $4,687.50 for a 5 year old rig $3,125.00 for a 10 year old rig $1,562.50 for a 15 year old rig
  14. The Australians have some pretty kickass malfunction videos posted on youtube. Check them out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTYsjH7DSVA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZx3lN-lwok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsxYEbLNh_8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YD1we-F9-3c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL87Ceo02L4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBNf-HsD3Ms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4x1ptlBF1Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79TWUxK1q2o
  15. I'm working on a project for business school (hypothetical product development) and was wondering if anyone here on the forums remembers the emergency procedures they were taught regarding round parachutes. In particular, were students taught to cut away from line twists? Were line twists considered a malfunction when rounds were the norm? Or are line twists a problem only on ram airs?
  16. "Dan Cooper" was obviously Richard McCoy Jr.
  17. My buddy had a two out jumping a round reserve and a square main on jump number 8. I wonder if he remembered to disconnect his RSL prior to chopping? I know I wouldn't! P.S. That was a rhetorical question. I know he didn't disconnect the RSL.
  18. 1 Tandem when I was 18 years old. Then I did a static line jump 2 years later and my first freefall six months after that.
  19. And one more thing about jump numbers: The USPA thinks you have enough experience to become a skydiving coach. So maybe that's something you might want to consider pursuing.
