More likely you fought for the intrests of the very wealthy. Any sacrifices you and your fellow soldiers made were in vain if you thought you were preserving "democracy" or "protecting the Rights" of others. You were merely used as a pawn and you don't even realize it. Kissinger is quoted as saying that "Military men are dumb,.stupid animals...". I'll leave it to you to find the rest of that quote. So I'm readin' the other day about suicide rates amongst the US armed forces. Seems they are at record highs!!!!!! Why is that do ya' think? Is it because this crop of soldiers has been molly coddled their entire life and *self-esteemed* all through their school years where everyone is a "winner" even the kid who crossed the finish line last? Or could it be that these kids who joined with the highest ideals and who thought they were doing the right thing have come to realize that in Iraq and Afghanistan they weren't doing the right thing" That the US , themselves , and their fellow soldiers were all doing the wrong thing? I have no sympathy for the bin Laden family. They knew precisely what he was up to. If they doubt his death, then they can try to contact him the way they always have and see how far they get. They, and the Saudi "royal" family that financed him, can also suck my balls. As it was never proven that Bin Laden had any part in 9-11 and considering the fact that the FBI didn't want him for that particular crime (they admitted there wasn't even enough evidence of his involvement for even an indictement) will you still permit them to "suck my balls" or would you rather find the actual persons responsible and allow them to "suck my balls"? As to the Saudi Royal family, considering their patronage during the US bankruptcy in the early 70's , perhaps you should be sucking their balls! Maybe you are and you just don't know it! Ya know, I think a lot. Over the last decade or so I've been thinking alot about wars (for obvious reasons). I've come to wonder , is war the natural state of man? Do most men wish to war with their fellow man? Do the majority of you wish to kill others and destroy infrastructures? Do the majority of the people you know aspire to the same? Or do you and the majority of the people you know have a good heart ,scrambling to help anyone they find in need ? I'll bet the majority of you wouldn't throw a Coke can into the curb. I bet the majority of you would hold that can until you reached the proper receptacle where you could dispose of the can in a civilized manner. I bet most of your freinds would as well. Considering that, I kinda' doubt you'ld normally be ok with dropping a bomb onto a city street and blowing up an apartment building and strowing rubble ,dead and wounded bodies all over the street. I also doubt you'ld really be ok with wantonly busting a fresh water pipeline that the average city dweller depends on to satisfy their families daily needs for fresh and clean water.I bet you would never consider blowing up the electrical supply to hospitals where premature infants are depending on the electricity supply to sustain their lives! No.., these are tradgedies you would be whipping out your credit card and donating to the cause to fix. So why do we support wars? Why do we , a civilized , sympathetic, and empathetic people attack our fellow man? Why do we send our brothers our fathers our freinds over seas to kill others like us and risk our loved ones coming home maimed and psyhcollogically deranged or even not coming home at all ? Why? You cannot change the law to suit your philosophical mission. You are just plain wrong. I long ago accepted the fact that you are a fringe type. If you keep up this line of reasoning you place yourself in an even more unfavorable light. To the veteran community and specifically Vietnam vets, speaking against them is very likely to arouse unfavorable passions. If you want to preach an anti-war policy that is your right. However, I strongly recommend you change your strategy and technique. First off Ron, preemptive war is a violation of international law. The US signed the treaty and we broke the law. That is a fact. As far as me being a "fringe type", you are absolutely right! I am a thinking man . I don't blindly accept what I am told. Those two charachteristics certainly place me on the fringe of the US population. Thirdly, As far as the Vietnam Vets most are absolved from any criminality as the majority were drafted. They were damned if they went and damned if they didn't. I have something to say about military conscription in a supposedly "free" country but I will save that for a future post.
