  1. Not true, IMO I put a RDS on my ragged-out E-mod Alpha 99. The difference is remarkable. Not so much the landing part but the overall feel of flight. There is a feeling of "clean flight" that it's really hard to put into words. The only problem is that my tarp with the RDS opens like crap at terminal. Memento Audere Semper 903
  2. What are you talking about? All my bridles have a sewn in loop right below the PC attachment point. I route all the 3 break cords through this same loop. Two are for the ACTUAL S/L (so if one fails there is a back-up). The third one is for the carry with you part. If everything works the third break cord does not break and pull the S/L around the object so you leave no trace. If the S/L gets trapped on the object, the 3rd cord breaks, you lose the S/L but no damage to the gear is done. Again I do not like attaching anything on my bridle other than close to the PC attachment point. Ask TowerTopper about his experience with the break cord few inches away from the bottom of the shrivel flap... Memento Audere Semper 903
  3. Greg, Do a search on carry with you static line. It works like butter. I like my break cords to be at the very end of the bridle, for many reasons. I use three pieces: a short one and a longer one for the actual S/L and a 3rd one for the carry with you part. I do s fold the bridle's slack and put a tail gate rubber band on it. Honestly I would not put any knots on the bridle and 8 feet less of FF won't add anything, really. Just my 0.02. Memento Audere Semper 903
  4. Sweet I did not know he pulled it off. How did the jump go? Memento Audere Semper 903
  5. You still don't get it. On the VII the two release handles are INDEPENDENT unlike the Sigma. Sure, when the TI forgot to hook the bottom snaps Do you acually know what happened, really? JP, we can go on and on until kindomcome. I jump VII and Sigma but if I had to buy one or have the choice to jump what ever I want it'd be a Racer for sure. Memento Audere Semper 903
  6. Bill (SullyFlyer) did it. It's called the gain-over. Next is the double gain-over, I don't think anybody had done this one yet. Another variation yet to be done is the double-floater-gain-over. Also, why TARD it when you can TARD it over? An yes, normal TARDs are very 90s. Memento Audere Semper 903
  7. Have you ever even taken a look at a Sigma? ONE SYSTEM ONLY TO RELEASE THE DROGUE. You can have 1000 main handles on the Sigma but there is only one pin closing the main container where all the handles are attached. If the pin gets stuck (easy to rig it so by the way) you are left firing the reserve into the drogue and hopefully don't die. At least with the VII the two main handles work independently. Of course with the VII you got out-of-sequence deployment problem and the fucked up FF position. Glad someone is buying all that marketing hype. Memento Audere Semper 903
  8. Just for the hell of it, I am curious to see a list of total life-time broken bones among BASE jumpers with their cause. Here is mine: Sternum (motorcycle) R coracoid process (shoulder) (motorcycle) Compounded R radius (motorcycle) 4th R compounded metacarpal (hand) (dumb fall) 1st L compounded metacarpal (thumb) (skiing) L1, L3, and burst L2 (skydiving) L tibia (skydiving) L compounded fibula (skydiving) 1st L phalange (big toe) (drop 45LBS) Grand total: 11 Memento Audere Semper 903
  9. Yes I call it bias. Ask Chuck how his 2K3 is holding up. Just because Sherman does not like to sell BS, it does not make the 2K3 a lesser rig. If it was my money I know which one to buy. Memento Audere Semper 903
  10. About the one that has only one system for releasing the drogue can be the best is way beyond me. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=850862;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Memento Audere Semper 903
  11. Best system on the market today, hands down. Memento Audere Semper 903
  12. I believe that he meant do not go back and forth with a straight stitch. I do it all the time with good results. As JohnJ said, start with a 1" straight stitch and then go back over it with a zig-zag. Make sure the # of stitches/inch is about 42 on the zig-zag and watch for the width. Memento Audere Semper 903
  13. Don't confuse clinical depression with the "social" depression sold by the pharmaceutical companies. Serotonin does not create happy! Folk’s science for the most part. You cannot make a direct link from molecules to behavior. Things are a little more complicated than that. Also, the few empirical data are controversial. Don't confuse science with introspection. Again, don't confuse science with introspection. Like many psychoactive drugs, antidepressant users will develop tolerance and withdrawal symptoms when the use ceases. For the most part antidepressants do more bad than good especially for the “social” depressed people. On the contrary for few clinically depressed patients they could be life savers. Those drugs are prescribed way too casually. It’s a ludicrous business much worse IMO than illegal drug trafficking and dealing. Yes you are guessing. Very true for clinical depression. Thanks for sharing that. Memento Audere Semper 903
  14. My 46" BASE has no handles whatsoever for the reason you mentioned. My 42" has a cordura disk that is very light. My 38" has a PVC internal handle. And my 32" a PVC external. You don't see any hackey being used in BASE due to the weight and snag points. Some even use floater handles that are not attached to anything, thye are just inserted in the PC. Again to avoid a heavy apex. Memento Audere Semper 903

  16. Even though I'll be there, the WFFC is not what it used to be, by any means. Exotic aircrafts are a thing of the past. Now we just jump off planes that can be found within few hours of driving distance from almost anywhere. I understand getting permission to jump from “exotic” aircrafts is getting harder and harder and beyond the WFFC organizers but little effort is put into. Jump tickets are not a bargain, just as or more expensive than any other place because both the WFFC and the aircraft operators have to make money. Vendors have to pay an overpriced ticket to be there. There are no international events to attract known names. Attendance is low and this year will be the lowest ever. The bottom line is that the WFFC does not offer anything than a medium/large DZ does not. Skydivers know that, skydivers stay home saving few bucks. So what can be done to spice things up? First reduce the jump prices: less income/ticket but it could be an incentive to attract more people hence probably more money at the end. Reduce the fee for vendors. Do the impossible to bring a greater verity of aircrafts. International competition tours: swoop, RW, CRW, FF, I mean you name it. Seminars, free instruction on a verity of disciplines, CRW camps, rigging and instructional courses, and why not, have the PIA symposium there every year. There are many ways to improve the situation. Bottom line, lack of will, just my 0.02. Memento Audere Semper 903
  17. My retired Viper 105 blew apart: Three cells, bottom skin, gone. Of course the cause was an extraction at 200Kts. So yes harder than normal openings can lead to that Memento Audere Semper 903
  18. If I always had a nice landing area and knew I could never had a malfunction then I'll be jumping a 150/135 reserve canopy. The reality is that most of my landing areas suck, line twist and line overs and lost toggles happen. When the shit hits the fan, more fabric is always better. Then there is the canopy skill part. Most of the new BASE jumpers get into the sport with nearly nil canopy skills and BASE is no environment to develop canopy skills. Maggot's Mojo 190 is loaded at about .85. The thing opens cleaner and faster than any other valved/vented canopy I have ever seen. However the canopy's shape gets clearly distorted with a PC bigger than a 42 with the latter being marginal. Of course the dude with 6000+ skydives can handle that tarp anywhere. IMO opinion a smaller canopy will inflate faster and cleaner but it will leave you with less time/more speed when things go wrong. And if you do have to land with the brakes still stowed in a line twist more fabric is always welcome. Your bones will thank you later. Memento Audere Semper 903

  20. Here are Little Buddy and Smizo's Swoops. Both are graduates of the Nitro Rigging School of Canopy Stunts. They both started skydiving last year. Little Buddy has about 200 skydives and he is jumping a 27 Xaos 78. Smizo because he has about 120 skydives jumps a 27 Xaos 83. Both of course RDS. The boys started under a PD 260, moved to a Triathlon 190, Sabre 150, Stiletto 120, Maggot's Stiletto 97 and the current Xaos. They are doing OK. Now they are working on their 360 because they have mastered their 270s in about 10 jumps. Yesterday Smizo swooped about 600' (downwind). Daddy is very proud. Memento Audere Semper 903

    Thanks Abbie

Yes he did. The fact is his prototype is so small you can barley feel anything nonetheless I saw him behind you while you were packing a few times. And now that he's banned for a month we can really talk shit about the dude! Bring it on! Memento Audere Semper 903
  22. I heard of that rationale about vented tarps. Conventional canopies are less sensitive to super DBS and easier to dial in all other things being equal. There are few well discussed threads on the topic. Memento Audere Semper 903
  23. So you are saying that you control all the entropy in the Universe and all the variables? Wow Nick, please teach me that so I won't nearly kill anybody again! Next time someone gets fucked up, I wait for the medics to come, jump, hook the shit out of my ragged out tarp, and swoop few inches from their heads. Hey I know I got the fucking skills to do that and they might even enjoy the "visuals". Memento Audere Semper 903
  24. Do you have valves on that Flik of yours? Memento Audere Semper 903
  25. To err is human dude. What gets under my skin is that according to what Nick has wrote because of his superior skills he feels he is above common courtesy or common sense. Knowing Nick for the little I do, I really thought he was better than that. Read this stuff again: Memento Audere Semper 903
