  1. Um... a missile? I love that the guy with the gun gets charged with a misdemeanor and the guy with the yogurt gets a felony charge. The gun was legal. Throwing the yogurt wasn't. Where's the mystery?
  2. Hi Jim, If you rupture your ear drums bad enough. You may never be able to jump again. The vertigo/nausea/pain/etal will be icing on the cake. Get yourself checked by an ENT. Good Luck.
  3. Hi Dave, What WRJoe said. Plus, I'll add this as Devil's advocate. What happens to your money if you get hurt before finishing? A lot of students, myself included, get banged up on landings. Will you lose significant monies if you get hurt halfway through?
  4. I wonder how all that horse shit ended up in the principle's office???
  5. Hi, I'm sorry you had an MI. It sounds like you only needed one stent, correct? That's actually very good. I've seen patients need three or more. If your attack didn't do too much damage. You might be fine to return to tandems in six months. I'm saying this because it sounds a bit like you think it's a foregone conclusion. Modern cardiology can do wonders, friend. Give your body some time to heal. Best of luck.

  7. Actually, you both are. About 60 years too late: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2550902895914120566#

    TM elbow

I am quite sure you did! "My elbow would throb & ache for hours." Jealous...
  9. Hi, I'm curious. I can understand the jogging restriction. Did your MD say why no bungee jumping? Why are negative Gs a bad thing for that?

    TM elbow

Hi, You, & others here are describing over-use injuries. I had one in my elbow once when I was a teen. It used to hurt me terribly. My elbow would throb & ache for hours. It took FOREVER to heal. So, I feel your pain reading these posts. If I may make a few suggestions. NSAIDS & R.I.C.E are fine for simple sprains. Yours aren't simple. Your injuries need more attention. There is a type of medical doctor called a Physiatrist. This is a doctor that specializes in rehabilitative medicine. They usually have physical therapists on site to assist in treatment. This is the specialty you should consult. If you let an injury like this go on for too long. You can cause permanent damage to the joint. Don't treat it properly? You'll be prone to re-injury. Beyond healing your current injury. A physiatrist & PT will teach you how to keep it from happening again. This is your livelihood, as well as your passion. Proper treatment now, can prevent this from becoming a chronic problem. I wish you all speedy relief.
  11. It's the other way around! We have to disinfect the area from all you "textile" jumpers. It's our bare butts that have to make contact. You all have a layer or two between you and any ..... any ...... contaminant. So, you're willing to lick the seats when your plane lands?
  12. Just tell me one requirement is wiping the seats down (well) before the next load....GROSS!!!
  13. The Camry is built in the US. One of the few things that are, unlike 90% of the internal parts on a Harley, which are built in Mexico and China! Ya beat me to it, Dave. True_Dat.
  14. Hi, To be fair, I haven't been there several times. I work six days a week. Plus, this kind of thing is a hassle. I went once, & was blown-off. They drove it down a side street @30MPH, & said it felt fine. I didn't have time to get into it, then. I took it back the second time, & made myself clear. They put it on the rack to check the alignment. The camber was out on one side. Three hours later, the alignment was done. It was much-improved, but still not quite right. It held the alignment for about a month. It's now about five months later. They panicked, thinking Lemon Law. They brought in the TFS guy for the area. We all went for a test drive last week. He said he didn't feel anything wrong. He said this while simultaneously agreeing that something wasn't right.... The car has developed a braking shudder within the last month. I suspect they adjusted sub-frames out of spec. In order to bring the overall package within spec(ish). Something finally loosened, & brought on the shudder under braking. I don't like getting yanked around. Almost thirty years of motorcycling, racing, plus OTR driving before college... I know when something's wrong. I've never had this type of problem, & certainly not w/a brand new car. I chose this dealership for service because they are the only one in my area w/zero claims against them through the BBB. I think Toyota built so many sub-par cars the past few years. That they can't stand behind each product, as they usually do. We'll see how this plays out. Thanks.
  15. Yeah, Thank You for this. This is where my mind is headed. I think I already know what's wrong. I just don't know how to document it. A patient told me there are at least two Toyota service advisories out on this problem. He's a Tech for them.
  16. Nope. No crash damage. The car was perfect when i picked it up. After about a thousand miles, the suspension settled. Then, it started to pull, plus other weirdness. I met w/the TFS (Toyota regional...whatever that stands for), & he dismissed it. I went w/Toyota because they HAD a reputation for making it right. My take is they screwed up so many cars lately. They can't do that anymore. I actually got away from Subies w/this Camry. My last Subaru was made in the new Indiana plant. The quality went down a few notches, IMO. The made in Japan Subies were great. I'm sorry I got rid of the last one I had. Thanks for the reply.
  17. We need more information: Where did you pack Who packed for you What is the wheel loading How many drives do you have Who was your instructor Do you have an RSL(Random Slut Lure) Do you have an AAD (Auto Abbreviation Device) What are the wind conditions Do you remember the N number? Were there witnesses? How manytimes have you completed a drive sucessfully with a full stand up? & Aggiedave was afraid I wouldn't get serious replies...
  18. Who's the antithesis? Anyone w/talent & class.
  19. 2010 Camry: Apparently uneven front strut mounting points. The vehicle was pulling to one side. Squirrely through suspension range, & assorted steering-related voodoo. After a few trips to the dealership. I got a wheel alignment out of it. It's been better, but still isn't right. The camber was out on one side. The suspension seems to be binding. There isn't neutral steering. It's harder to turn to the right. The latest is heavy brake pulsing. My guess is they forced it to go down the road straight (by readjusting subframes "Out" of alignment to compensate). Something something has now come loose, causing the brakes to pulsate. I don't know enough about this to cut through the BS. Would most autobody shops have a machine to check for a bent frame? Not just a wheel alignment, but wheel & frame alignment. I've seen them for crashed racing motorcycles. Maybe that's the way to prove it. They're afraid I'll lemon law it. I don't want to. I want what I paid for...
  20. I've got a "Parachute question" regarding my new Toyota... PM me if it's not appropriate for this forum, please_N_Thank You.
  21. Kindly read my reply to Andy for most of this. You acknowledge that insurance abuses have happened? They've happened on a systematic basis, & they still do. "...someone who becomes very ill, cancer, etc, who is uninsured, suddenly buy insurance and try to slip it by..." Why do you keep coming back to this? It's a completely separate issue. We've never mentioned a jumper trying to do this. This post is about people who have been paying their premiums faithfully, for years. The issue is discriminatory practices by some in the insurance industry. Discrimination needs to be fought. If not, it will only get worse, later. About the flood damage: Did you bring your poor agent flowers when you told him??? I've had the same insurance agency for something like thirty years now. Knock on wood, I've never given him a claim. I can only imagine his reaction if I walked in one day w/a $60K claim... I'm thinking the horse in Animal House.
  22. Hey Ghost, Sorry I didn't get back to you last night. Let's give this a go. "1. Can a car insurance company charge a person who has had several speeding tickets more than it charges someone who has not? " **Are the speeding tickets budget-balancing, chickensh*t tickets, or legitimate? There are many towns around here who balance their budgets by having their police write bogus tickets for 3mph over the limit. That doesn't constitute a dangerous, flagrantly negligent driver in my book. If the driver keeps getting popped doing 20+ over the limit? No problem w/smacking him. "2. Can a home or renter's insurance company charge a person more if their home is in a high-crime area?" **Who gets to determine that the home is in a high crime area? The insurance industry is "Trusted" to self-police on many such issues. If the neighborhood is truly ghetto? Yes, they can charge a fair amount extra. "3. Can a life insurance company charge a first time buyer who is old and dying a higher premium than a first time buyer who is young and healthy?" **My very limited understanding of such policies would say yes. "If it's not, why not, and how is it different than lying to your health insurer about how you got hurt?" **My son would drive legally, or not @all. As w/the rentals, there are plenty of fairly priced options. Plus, that would be teaching dangerously bad lessons, wouldn't it (go ahead & smile ;-}). "In other words, can an insurance company take risk into account when figuring out premiums?" I'll try to be brief on this. Here's my take on it. If someone is driving recklessly, or habitually (not that a single incident is OK w/me) driving drunk? They are endangering others. Such people need to get smacked for our safety. They're breaking the social contract we all embrace. Everyone deserves to make it home alive. They are indeed also an increased risk for the insurers. For all those reasons. I've no problem w/higher rates for them. You cited high crime areas as a reason. In theory, a fair practice. In actuality, I've little doubt that that principle often gets abused for all it's worth. It's the self-policing thing. Who decides that it's really a high crime area? How far of a perimeter gets drawn around this dangerous area? Where does the risk diminish, & how much? My guess is that even legitimate ghettos have a very large buffer zone around them that also gets fleeced to some extent. Another example: There's a commuter alley in an area a ways north from me. It's in the sticks, but a lot of people do commute from there. The insurance rates for anyone living there are much higher than the surrounding areas. Unfairly so, I would say. To anyone who spends some time observing the supposed threats of this corridor. The argument doesn't hold water. The insurance carriers are saying it is so. Their numbers are not to be challenged, or even seen (I think). Take it or leave it, they say. Fair arguments are used as a foot in the door. Then, they are used to defend gouging. Is it 100%? No, of course not. As I've mentioned. I'm very happy w/my insurance. This wasn't always the case, though. I was just as deserving of quality medical care twenty years ago while struggling through school. I didn't get it, then. Because of this. I developed health problems which have had a negative impact on my quality of life. I'm not going to relate this to current politics, & certainly not to the current regime. I've mentioned that I work in health care. You could call it a religion of sorts for me. The insurance industry has run the costs up for health care to positively obscene levels. The insurance companies pay fire sale prices. The poor saps w/o insurance (& not on welfare...) pay exorbitant prices for the same care. If they can't afford it? Tough Luck. The greedy slugs in this world have the rest of the life experience to slither round in & steal. I don't want them affecting who can get care. All else being equal. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see which patient will fare infinitely better from a catastrophic dx: a poor worker bee, or a wealthy whoever. As far as I'm concerned. Quality health care is off limits to the greed sector. There is much to be said for universal health care. There is a tremendous amount of disinformation on the supposed evils of such a system. The health care system in this country is broken. The insurance industry bears much of the blame for this. Their denying some people (who choose to participate in a perfectly legal sport) medical treatment, amounts to discriminatory behavior. Of course, they would argue otherwise. As far as I'm concerned. They don't have the right to bring their BS into this end of the pool. They can go swim somewhere else. OK, a little rough after a long week @work, but there it is.
  23. Hi Andy, $60K?! My condolences. That must've been one H*ll of a flood... "While I won't argue that insurance is sometimes a nasty business, I can tell you in my years as a case manager I have NEVER seen a patient denied benefits, claims denied, etc, on any shady level." What say you to the links I posted last night in another reply? They very clearly show rampant systemic abuses which you claim to never have seen.
  24. You actually never bothered to ask me about my insurance coverage. It's very good, & I AM covered for skydiving. As someone who has worked in health care for many years. I understand the risks very well. I also understand how insurance companies operate...
