Buying my first helmet. Any tips?

Grab a Benny from Chutingstar. They're a great helmet @full price. I've had one for years (old liner style), & have never regretted it. I would argue that it offers significantly more protection than that Bonehead you're also considering.

While you're waiting for more replies to come in. I'll direct you to our search function. In the upper righthand corner of this page, you'll see a search bar. Typing in the query "Amputee" brought these results: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=amputee%20&sb=score&mh=25 Lots of good info, there. Good Luck.

    tandemskydive after ear-operation

Hi, Your English is perfectly understandable. I wasn't able to follow that link. Sounds like you had a Myringotomy. It's unclear from what you've written. You speak of pressure changes, but then mention earplugs. Earplugs help w/loud noises, not pressure changes. If you're sensitive to the slight pressure changes of a pressurized aircraft. Free fall pressure changes will surely cause you loads of pain. If your Ears can't equalize pressure fast enough. You'll rupture the Eardrum. Intense pain, vertigo, & nausea will be the results... Sorry, but you should definitely talk to your Doctor before jumping. Best of Luck.

    Audibles/Altimeters

The Optima2 is more accurate, much more adjustable, & has canopy alarms. You'd be giving up a lot of functionality for a data logger you don't really need. Just my $0.02

    GoPro shuts off on jumprun

FWIW. I asked GoPro about repair costs when they start acting up. In not so many words. They said it's a throw away. They won't even try to repair them.

    Looking for jumpsuit advice

Hi Ryan, I'm new, but can help you this much. I'm also a lightweight @155#s. I used to struggle mightily to keep up w/200+# friends when I was only wearing shorts & a tee shirt. I couldn't arch hard enough. I bought a tight fitting Bev suit w/nylon front & spandex back & arms. I now have quite a comfortable speed range. I actually have to de-arch to slow down for guys weighing 250+#s... I'm sure more experienced fliers can more efficiently fly their bodies. Even so, they use the fast suits, too. Good Luck.

    Tandem Landing Tips

FWIW, I'm not an instructor, but have done three tandem jumps. I'm a fit & trim guy, but was unable to get my legs up enough for the first landing. For the others, I grabbed the harness above my shoulders, & used the TI's body to leverage against. The result was being able to swing my legs up effortlessly, bringing my body into an "L" shape.

    Optima II

Old school dogma holds that one shouldn't buy an Audible until >100 jumps. I disagree. Arguably, I think students/newbies need these the most. I bought one once off student status. I've already had an Alti fail on me. I went low because of it. I'm too new to recognize altitudes by eye. This wonderful little device gives me an additional layer of safety. It's a stress reducer for me. I don't rely on it as a primary means of alt. awareness. It's a backup for if my alti fails, or I get distracted by increasingly challenging group dives. You can adjust all the warning alts, & the volume AND pitch of the alarms (very important for me w/my auditory nerve damage). Read its capabilities on L&B's site. It does everything you could ask. One thing I didn't realize before buying it. You can track your altitude during the climb in real-time, ten foot increments. Compare it w/other wrist Altis & Audibles. You'll find it's drop-dead accurate. The new case is water-proof to all but repeated dunkings in the pond. You can cram it in your helmet, & sweat on it for years w/o worry. With two means of altitude detection, I'm much safer in FF & the landing pattern. Throw in L&B's legendary customer service, & it becomes a no-brainer. $200 is a whole lot cheaper than a broken leg, or worse... Thank you, L&B.

    Cost of Class A?

FWIW. Had I not gotten hurt. My A would have only cost me about $2400 for everything. I live in a pricey part of the country. Dunno about Colorado.

    Skydiving with weak ribs

*How old is your Girlfriend? *How long ago was the injury? *Which ribs, & how badly were they broken? I've broken at least one of 'em. I suspect I also had a cracked rib when I did my first tandem. Now, they don't trouble me @all. Any more of an explanation from the MD? Bones mend. The weakness then becomes the areas surrounding the prior fracture. The only reason I could see his caution would be multiple fractures of each affected rib. Especially the smaller ones. Either that, or the Doc doesn't understand what a jump is like.
