  3. Really not much different from those of us who started in the Winter and in crappy climates. Between January and May in the year I started, I got 5 whole jumps and I was there every weekend. Don't get discouraged, head South You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  4. Good job, Isn't it nice to know that you will react properly in an emergency situation? If that happened here it would cost you a case of beer, no matter who is at fault. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  5. How not to launch an inverted 3 way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FSSOPKhTTw You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  6. OK, I understand your frustration and concerned with your problems and not those of others, but there are lots of us out there who had the same issues. Where others just breeze through those tests, failure does nothing but bring depression and thinking that we are dumb. Lots of smart people have a tough time with testing. Personally I flunked 3 attempts at my private pilot license written test, 2 times on my rigger written and how about 5 times on the Illinois State Bar exam. I just chalked it up to having a low academic IQ. Retention of knowing the answers just didn't sink in, even when I knew the material. But I stayed at it. Keep us posted and if you don't make it this time, take a break and do it again. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  7. I agree, I used some of Skydive DeLands gear when I left my gear up north recently and its first class. The charge is $35 per jump or $70 for the whole day. They also require you use their packers for at least the last pack job. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  8. I got a couple of tail draggers and they're fun. I wrote an article some years back and it may be helpful if you have never flown one. It was basically written for Cessna's but the same rules apply (see attachment) You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  9. Never jumped out of one but a transit jumper asked me to drop him (about 1976). When I rolled it over he fell out. I heard a bang and found out when I landed it was actually his shin hitting the canopy. Didn't hurt him permanently but he said it was the worst pain he ever had in his life. I believe him. 10. Wow, I think I will build one, maybe a smaller version using a lawn tractor. Maybe it will work on water too. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  11. Actually, candy was originally invented for adults and I think you should take all away and eat it yourself. I personally contributed to my Niece and Nephews dental health by eating a bunch of theirs the other night.
  12. Consider this, Is a tennis player a tennis player if they haven't played tennis for many years?, How about a skier or a baseball player. Just because they were at one time doesn't continue to make them so. I only consider a skydiver a skydiver if they are currently jumping. I had about an 8 year layoff where I would make an occasional jump, but didn't consider myself as a skydiver during that time, simply that I had been a skydiver. When I quit someday, I will consider myself to have been a skydiver. A tandem jumper is just that, someone who made a jump. If they continue, they are a skydiver. When they stop, they are not. 16. The 2 DZ's i jump at have small and medium sized lakes which normally aren't a problem, but on 2 occasions I ended up near them, so I wear a small inflatable device on all jumps. I figure, why take a chance? You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  17. Yes, Kitty was naughty today. After a day of jumping I come home to a house full of shredded toilet paper. Kitty was just laying on the bed like nothing happened. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

  20. I found out a lot about the character, or lack of from people hiding behind Anonymous posts. So I guess I just have to consider the source of you divulging what most did not know. There was also a lot of debate whether or not this garbage should be allowed to even post on dropzone, but I don’t make the rules. I will certainly help a brother if I can You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  21. If I were in the same situation, I think I would contact the many dealers out there, even the manufacturers. Your already ahead of the game with the license and ratings. Good Luck You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  22. I agree with the fact that other issues were involved since I was was the previous owner of the powerplant that failed "I was the one who sold the core to the person who sold it to the end user". I was making was related to the handling of the plane with an engine out. Blue Skies You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  23. Can never forget the fights my brother and I would have over the TV. You see, the Soupy Sales show directly conflicted with the TV series RIPCORD starring Ken Curtis also know as "Festus" on Gunsmoke. Curtis also is said to have made a couple of parachute jumps. I wanted to watch the "parachuters", he wanted to see Soupey. I still liked Soupy and ofter look at him on youtube. 24. Yes, that was a tragic one, similar to the '92 Hinkley Illinois crash that claimed 12 including a couple friends of mine. Thought the newspaper account was wrong in that it said the plane was airborne for 10 minutes, it had actually just taken off and crashed shortly afterwards. The pilot had apparently feathered an engine. It was also reported that an engine was popping or mis-firing while on takeoff roll. Fuel contamination was explained as a possible cause since they drew below ground fuel using a hand pump. Failure to obtain/maintain minimum control speed was the FAA's conclusion. Regardless of what made the engine/engines malfunction, it, like the Beech 18 accident in Hinkley Illinois should have been handled by the pilot. Too many times pilots will try to keep the damn thing in the air. I won't go into too many details but there is a marking on the airspeed indicator which is called a blue line. If a pilot allows the plane to get to it or below that line and still cannot maintain a positive rate of clime, treat it like a single and put the damn thing down. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  25. Right you are. Actually I think jump run gives the pilot a lot of options as he can add power, flaps or put the nose down to stay ahead of the plane. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
