  1. Being a Pilot and familiar with most of the Florida DZ's I can't think of a solution and I don't think i'd try the swoop ponds

    Busiest american dz's in february??

Don't know about the other DZ's, but here at DeLand you can always get on a load. Come on out!!
  7. Sound like simple adjustments your AFF instructors will deal with in your training. I'm not the best one speak here being so far distanced from the training that goes on today, but being an active current skydiver I see this sort of thing addressed and corrected often. Maybe some qualified AFF instructors can ofter more here. Good luck and welcome to the sport

    This "2-stage flare" thing

I am not an instructor anymore, I leave that to the younger crowd, but can you please explain the 2 stage flare? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sound like a procedure where you slow the canopy down with brakes prior to the full flare.

    torn leg strap?

Just type "harness failure" in the search engine. There is some interesting reading there

    Tandem statistics?

Thats a tough one. I know USPA requires their DZ's to report Tandem malfunctions, however I don't know whether they also require totals. Someone here should know. You also have the non-USPA DZ's. Good Luck

    Cheapest lodging at Major DZ's

I would check out their web sites, they should show the availability and area motels.

They make a great rig. Love the velcro riser covers. Tuck tabs are a real problem as they age. Got 500 jumps on mine and have no complaints. Tore up a panel on a crash and burn, sent it in and they fixed it in 1 day. Great company, great support.

    Skydiving mojo

Mojo, Most of us who have spent any number of years in this sport have experienced the grief you are experiencing now. Loosing someone close to us in a jump related incident leaves all kinds of chaotic emotions. The first few weeks are a real bitch and say whatever they may about grief being a normal human emotion, I personally hate it. Its a very depressing time and there's always that feeling that you really won't get over it. Grief really does suck. Every jump we make has an element of danger, and this danger makes many of us think about what would happen to family members if we had an accident. My own Mother says she worries about me and dreads the though of that phone call, but I tell he to remember that I am doing what I loved to do, and if this sport takes me, please understand the years of enjoyment and the family of people I've met was well worth any risks. 1980 Fatality Info

The only way I can think of is to check their local newspaper which has an online archive section but they want a couple of bucks to look it up.

    Carl Nelson Sr. FB#1500

He's the one who brought Carl and his brother out to Camp Lake Wisconsin for their first jump. Must have been tough to loose 2 boys.

Skydive Milwaukee / Sky Knights SPC

Tandem, AFF & fun jumpers, this is the place to go. Jumped at many DZ’s over the years, this one rates among the best. Nice up to date variety of student and rental gear. Very accommodating and by far the most friendly and professional staff to be found anywhere. Super facilities, well maintained aircraft and great rolling countryside aerial views.

    Third-Party USPA Advertising

I would only get a quote if you actually are looking for insurance. It just so happens I am and if they quote lower than my present companies, they got the business. These agents are simply business people trying to make a living in a very competitive industry and it wouldn't be ethical for me to take advantage of their promotion.

    Russian Paracommander

I had one years ago. I don't remember a bag though as I used a sleeve. Also recall that other than the lines being a different material, it was basically the same as a PC. I will check with a friend of mine who has a lot of that vintage stuff and see if we can get a manual. I can always scan it and email.

    Seeking Mentor

If I were in the same situation, I think I would contact the many dealers out there, even the manufacturers. Your already ahead of the game with the license and ratings. Good Luck

    Big Ouch!!!!

Yeah, that can happen. I fall like a safe myself, but I got a canopy that forgives my errors since it has a built in snivel which means it opens slower and won't bite you when things like that happen. On a few jumps over the years I found I didn't have the altitude to slow down like I should have. The opening shock was just the beginning, the next couple of days every muscle in my body was crying out. Blue Skies

    Value of the canopy

Not claiming to be an expert and having just sold a Silhouette on the classifieds, I will make a wild stab at it. Since there is one in the classified for $1,450 which is said to have 2 jumps on it, and one that is a lot smaller for $1K, I would make a wild stab at being worth somewhere around $800. If you include the bag, risers, toggles and pilot chute, its probably worth more.
