  1. Not often I post but after reading this post and the one where you dont know how you get bruised I feel compelled to stick my 2 bits in No their not their doing what I use to do to camera flyers I didnt trust let you exit until your out of the way then they exit as you say in your other post Fine so why are you giving people here a hard time That statement alone shows you have no concept of tandem saftey No a tandem student is the responsibility of the tandem master where as the 4 way are responsible for them selfs

  5. Haven't posted pics for a while so here's a couple from the w/e
  6. Never a truer word spoken Because the price and size of cameras have fallen every twat and his dog has one and because they jump for free every dz uses them even though their product is normally crap or greatly inferior.
  7. Yeah I read the review you posted and as the camera will be used for skydiving only I see no problems with low light. I’m not bothered about the quality of stills either as I jump with a DSLR so it looks like the HC5 would suit me best. Thanks for the help John
  8. I am about to get an HDV camera and I have been reading lots of different views on both cameras and while it’s nice to have the latest camera HC9 it would seem that OIS is a problem. Is the HC5 with EIS a better bet even though its slightly lower quality? And when you edit the footage would you notice any difference? John
  9. I learned that lesson a while ago http://www.skydivenow.org/temp/near%20miss.MPG I was on camera for this one but it learned me to be very picky who I let jump when I am the TM
  10. Not my best shot but my first balloon pic John
  11. Your right sony is not the only camera used for skydiving. BUT it is the best and proven make that most use and can rely on. John
  12. Just thought I'd add my 2cents worth Stratostars right not everyone uses d boxes. Before digital I use to use a box with a high 8 to stop tape flutter but that was before putting a camera in a box became fashionable. I have been jumping an Optik since they came out I have 2 setups. Tandem Sony side mount and 10d top mount 4 way 2 x Sony top mount and 10d front mount. I have jumped 182s, 206s, porters, and caravans with both setups and no problems or no riser strikes. Know what you use and know how to use it. John
  13. When mini dv first hit the sport I bought a 3 chip camera (big bucks then) I mixed tape types and after about a year started to have problems with dirty heads. The tech who sorted it showed me the crap that had built up in the camera from the tapes. He said all taped have a type of emulsion on them as there played small amounts is left on the heads the problems start when you use different makes of tapes and the emulsions mix this then clogs the heads which causes problems. Since then I have stuck to Sony tapes and have had no problems with dirty heads and have never had to use a head cleaner while others seem to mix tapes and constantly have problems. The tape is the cheapest part of your kit but one of the most important parts so why would you risk screwing up footage for a couple of buck’s false economy in my books.
  14. ***. No they where advised when they bought the plane that there is cables running under the head cloth and these could be damaged by top mounted cameras so it’s a ban for safety reasons not cosmetic and yes I have jumped lots of porters where this rule doesn’t apply. This doesn't mean the other DZs are right and yours is wrong
  15. I have been watching this discussion with amazement and being both a TI and cameraman cannot believe some of the comments.. There’s a big difference between docking on a tandem and using the tandems as leverage. If you haven’t got the skill keep out of the way and don’t put the TI and his passenger at risk because you haven’t got the ability to fly the slot. I have been in the position when a DZ owner has wanted to send up a inexperienced guy with a camera to try and get the video and I wouldn’t allow it as the TI it’s my responsibility to look after the student and me. I’d rather stay on the ground and let some other fool risk his life because that’s what they are doing.
  16. Hiya has anyone got an email address for Terry Shumacher Thanks John
  17. You ask for help and yet you cannot be bothered to fill in your profile. An idea of your jump numbers & ability would help people help you.
  18. I have been making tandem DVDs on the computer for a couple of years but its very time consuming so I bought a L.G. RH7500 DVD recorder with hard drive. Quality is good and it only takes a few minutes to finalise the disc. The problem is it puts a thumbnail menu on the disc at start up. I have tried every thing to stop this but no luck. I prefer my DVDs to auto play I think it looks more provisional. I suppose it wouldn’t be so bad if the menu contained only the thumb nails of the promo and jump but it has 6 spaces so there are 4 empty boxes in the menu which looks bad. I have tried both copying from the hard drive and direct to DVD by fire wire still get the menu. As usual trying to get tech help from manufacturer has been a waste of time and money on phone calls. Anyone any ideas or do you have a dvd recorder that makes auto play discs What type of dvd recorders are being used? John
  19. Your kit is only as good as the weakest part so it makes no sense spending big money on camera gear to lose it because of some cheap quick release system. Buy the best and hopefully you’ll only have to buy it once.
  20. On sony cams switch camera to VCR mode go to menu then A/V DV out set to OFF and capture direct to computer HTH John
