  1. And don't forget Finn... http://mosman-daily.whereilive.com.au/news/story/kirribilli-boy-the-youngest-to-skydive/
  2. Here's a profile of Fiona from some time ago... http://www.skydiver.com.au/userfiles/files/Profile%20Fiona%20McEachern.pdf I'm a new jumper and only met Fiona recently. I had the honor of being coached by her on a couple of jumps, and being told by her that I did well was the biggest compliment I've ever had on my skydiving. It was obvious to me in the short time that I spent with her that she was a remarkable person, an inspiration to me and many others.
  3. Man, 200 jumps - how hard can it be? I mean, it's not like you've gotta train 7 days a week for 10 years straight or sign up your first born or anything - just do 200 skydives! I can't believe the crap that some of the people here protest with - to satisfy the demands of nothing but impatience.
  4. http://digiscents.com/blog/ NOOOO! At least that's one thing the porn market will probably steer clear of.
  5. I think this recent evolution of 3D is just another part of the battle movie makers are fighting to keep audiences going to cinemas rather than watching their movies at home. Most changes to the medium have occurred in this fashion since TV emerged - first being widescreen formats (now TVs are made in widescreen), then surround sound (now there's surround sound for homes)... The key issue I think is backwards compatibility. If DVD hadn't emerged as a consumer technology I reckon everybody would still be just as happy watching VHS. Hardly anyone would have gone to Blu ray if the BR player didn't play DVDs, and people buying new TVs are going to end up getting 3D ones just cos they're there - but only as long as it'll work with all their old crap. Then there'll be a platform for more content. I can only hope nobody revives 'Smell O Vision'.
  6. I jump from a PAC regularly and it is extremely easy to hit the tail. I know I'm stating the obvious but you have to be very conscious of not jumping up at all on exit from the step. I've almost hit the tail when I thought I was pushing out (not up), I would not have realised if nobody had told me later.
  7. That's beautiful work. Better seen than heard that's for sure.
  8. That's right, I have some photos of one compared to a Sabre2 190. Definitely smaller.
  9. I heard once that a reserve doesn't fly much like a newish ZP main, is that right? (haven't had the chance to find out yet) (gear referred to was a PD176 res and a Sabre2 190 main).
  10. Leave only a few drops of milk in the bottle and put it back in the fridge. Enough to splash around in the bottle, but not enough to be useful for even a cup of tea. Spell names wrong on purpose.
  11. I did my first jump at 16! Dude, it will BLOW YOUR MIND.
  12. That's interesting. That makes me wonder if disconnecting the RSL before cutting away in that situation is a viable option. I guess that depends on how high you are and how quickly you think you could do it.
  13. OK, I've been thinking but I'm not sure that I see what you're saying... is it that perhaps, if you cutaway in that instance (without disconnecting the RSL/Skyhook) then with a Skyhook, the reserve bridle being pulled out almost simultaneously with the pin, could somehow inhibit the reserve PC launch? So then with the main still attached to you at some point you could then end up with a further horseshoe with the reserve or a PC in tow or something? Shouldn't the combined drag of all that crap (with the reserve bridle as well) pull the freebag off and allow the reserve to deploy?
  14. But couldn't there could eventually be a situation where for one reason or another, after having followed all the rules, you might still end up with a bad canopy under your hard deck... and if that did occur, depending on the situation, you might elect to take your chances with the Skyhook rather than risk deploying the reserve into the bad main? I'm not wanting to nominate particular altitudes, but surely if the same hypothetical situation was encountered with an RSL instead of a Skyhook, you could have less options available to you? Just to be clear - I have a Skyhook, and my plan is to cut away well above my hard deck if I have to. I'm just wondering what others thoughts are and certainly have no plans to lower my hard deck based on advice received in an internet forum. ;)
  15. You'd be forced into an identical landing pattern every jump. It would fall apart instantly upon contact with the ground. You'd look like someone who has more money than sense.
  16. Finally - some sense. http://www.smh.com.au/world/solo-sailing-dream-fades-for--laura-14-20100618-yk6l.html
  17. Update - not found yet, Qantas plane still on its way. Comments in story not encouraging. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/06/11/2924732.htm?section=justin
  18. In Australia when Jessica Watson went there was much debate about it, with the expectation that something like this would happen. When she got back a couple of weeks ago there was a mass media orgy involving the fucking prime minister and all manner of stupidity celebrating 'brave Jessica's return. At least if this unfortunate girl never makes it back the world will never again be subjected to weeks upon weeks of PR-driven media overkill when they finally ban this inane foolery. All we can hope for now is that they don't send Tony Bullimore out to get her....
  19. Out of so many, just one personal favorite... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2dGui_bjpk Saw him a couple of years back on the Heaven and Hell tour, truly awesome stuff.
  20. This seems to be a radical departure from your original concept. Are you sure you've thought this through? There was something like that in that movie 'Double Team'. I suggest clipping the scene out and taking it to your nearest rigger as a proposal. Even if they laugh at you you'll have just seen a decent action movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkScRJMMkcE
  21. You have to make sure your test subject does not fall into the machine due to their increased descent rate through this bubbling water. Or else you could make the machine out of some sort of flexible mesh, like hose tubing, that could provide a final cushion for the subject. Don't give up! Many things we take for granted (combustion engine, refridgeration, antibiotics) would not exist now had it not been for a highly ridiculed online forum post.
