  1. It may well have been. There is something about the Gun Control Act of '68 being worded to accomodate this (accomodate meaning make the registration non-self-incriminatory - if that's a real term). But the registration laws of different states and/or cities still falls under this, IIRC. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 2. Ah, so sorry. That defense has been tried, and alas, failed, in prosecutions for income tax evasion: "I didn't come by my income legally, and reporting it would constitute self-incrimination, so I neither have to report it nor pay taxes on it." FAIL. A person who (a) owns a gun unlawfully, and (b) fails to register said gun, is guilty of TWO offenses - (a) and (b). 3. That was your argument, back it up. Prove that they do. They don't have to. At least not here in the US. It's gone up a few levels in the appellate system. (No, I'm not going to go seach for proof). The basic argument was that a felon can't legally posses a weapon in the first place. Becuse of that, registering the weapon would constitute self-incrimination. Since the bill of rights protects against forced self-incrimination, forcing someone who can't legally own a weapon to register it (and by doing so, tell the police that he has a weapon) isn't allowed. So they can't be prosecuted for failing to register the weapon. They can still be prosecuted for felon in possession of it, but not for possession of an unregistered weapon. 4. Why didn't you check the rig at the border, right after the inspection? You could then have gone back, asked for a supervisor and asked why your rig had been tampered with. Some of them are dicks but for the most part, if you are calm and reasonable, they will listen and be soemwhat responsive to complaints of this sort. 5. Some more things to consider when deciding where on 'Twardo's "sliding scale" this goes: How skilled is the non-rated "instructor"? Does the student know the "instructor" is a fraud? Is this an isolated incident or a regular occurence? I see that responsibility coming from being a skydiver, not a USPA member. We owe the students (who don't know what they are getting into or with whom) a fair chance at success. That includes properly maintained equipment (including the plane) and qualified people teaching them (including the pilot). Compare it to a DZ using a non-rated pilot. That's a clear FAA violation and non-rated AFF instructors aren't. But they're both wrong. And for the same reasons. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 6. Bit of a stretch there. There's just a little bit of difference between being threatened by a terrorist group and having bombs going off, soldiers patrolling, armed helicopters flying overhead and all the other activities that were going on in Baghdad at that time. But yes, the attacks on Sept 11 were both understandable and to some degree had been predicted. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. Bahgdad Iraq, where this happened is a war zone. When this happened there were US and Iraqi soldiers on patrol on a daily basis, fighting against the insurgents who lived in Sadr City. The locals knew that anyone armed out on the streets was a potential target of US/Iraqi gov't fire. They were allowed to have weapons in their homes but weren't allowed to be armed on the streets. Once the cops open fire you are fucked. Period. The idea is to not behave in a manner that gets you shot at in the first place. The group that was attacked in Iraq was a group of "military age men" who appeared to be armed. The heli crew saw them as militants. No, being killed for simply drawing a weapon isn't justifiable. But if you are holding a weapon (or in some cases holding what appears to be a weapon - toy gun, cell phone, wallet) , some people - especially the cops -will see you as a threat and open fire. At the very least they (cops) will order you to drop the weapon and get on the ground. Non-compliance will get you killed. Something very important to remember for those who wish to carry. It's also important to remember that when travelling in a war zone that having the appearance of being militants will get you killed. It's not right. The heli crew and their superiors may merit punishment. But it's pretty easy to see how this can happen. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 8. The stamp on the progression card makes it an "official" license. You don't need to send it in to have an A license. The completed card can be sent in (with or without the stamp) to get a license. Having the stamp applied on the candidates forehead is highly recommended and considered neccessary for video of the first licensed jump. 10. Bit of a difference between AKs and RPGs just outside of Sadr City and gun rights isn't there? It's a war zone. If you carry weapons in a war zone you tend to be a target. If you approach those who were carrying weapons that were just attacked, you tend to be a target. And FWIW, carry classes usually spend a fair amount of time on how to handle the weapon after a shooting situation so that you don't get shot by the cops that are responding. If you are holding a weapon at the scene of a shooting, the responding officers usually aren't willing to give you the benefit of the doubt as to being a good guy or a bad guy. People have been shot and killed by the cops after a legit self defense shooting because they forgot this simple concept. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. You don't say "Wait until next year" until after they are completely out of the playoff hunt. Until then, no matter how far back they are you must say "They could still pull it off". Even if they are 10 or more games behnd, needing to win every one to make the playoffs, "They can still pull it off". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. I've been involved in a couple Chevy small-block startups where we used a hand drill to spin the oil pump shaft (to have pressure) while cranking the motor over. That put oil in all the critical places. Then throw the distributor in quick, hook up the fuel and fire it up. I'm not entirely sure it was worth the trouble, but the owner thought so. 14. What kind of belt are you using? There are specially designed belts that work great for carry. They are double thick and often have stiffeners (a plastic panel that's really similar to our flap stiffeners). The thickness/stiffness prevents the holster from twisting the belt without needing to have the belt super tight. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. Yeah its a 550. I would like to order a case feeder from dillon, but the auto index of both the 650 and 1050 is what turned me off of those. I like the controll to manually turn the index just in case something isnt quite right like fully seating a primer. And yes, Blue Press is quite possibly one of the best gun porn mags you can get in the mail. The auto index isn't a big deal, at least not to me. The Dillon usually runs so smoothly that problems are pretty rare, and if there is one, I just pull the problem case out of the shell holder, and run an empty space through. The powder system won't dump a charge unless there is a case there. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 18. DUDE! Dillon is the best out there. You should have gotten the casefeed (that's a 550 right?). It is a bit pricey, but makes the whole operation so much smoother. I have a 650 (had it for about 17 years). Casefeed and powdercheck. If you got it direct from the factory you now have a subscription to what is probably the best catalog in firearms. If you didn't get it from the factory, order something from them so you get the catalog. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. I don't follow the logic when you talk adoption. If neither partner wants the child, than adoption satisfies both parties' desires - as does abortion. the issue is when they disagree - If both parties want equal ownership of decision - the only way to give both parties equal choice of responsibility is to wait until after the birth - then either party can raise the child (with the other party volunteering only what they choose to contribute - including nothing). If neither wants a child, then adoption where both parties elect to nothing. So the interesting situation is what is 'equivalent' to the female choice of abortion - for the male. I can't think of one. she gets another option in abortion - he doesn't. I was using adoption to try to remove the controversy surrounding abortion. That was all. And I agree that the problem occurrs when she wants to keep it and he doesn't. But I don't agree with allowing the man to "abort" his responsibilites just because he doesn't want them. While more fair to the man, it isn't fair to either the woman or the kid. It also isn't fair that the woman can choose to not keep the kid if the man wants to. That's just the reality of the situation. It's your kid, it's your responsibility. Fair or not (kinda not), equal or not (again, kinda not). Again, it's the reality of the situation. Unless you are willing to force the woman to give up the kid (either way) or go it alone. Which, IMO, is unacceptable. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. Adoption fits in the "Option to Abort Responsibilty" categroy too. I'm not going to start on whether abortion is right or wrong, so to try (with little real hope) to avoid the hotheads: There really isn't any equivalent to option #3. The idea (as I said in my original post) of forcing a woman to give up a kid for adoption (or be forced to choose between giving up the kid or going it alone) would be more fair to the man, but totally unacceptable to most of society (and me personally). I think it's just one of the areas where men and women are not now and never will be truly equal. Again, if you aren't willing to raise a kid with the woman, don't stick your dick in her. I'm not going to raise any moral or religious issues here, but from a purely practical standpoint, the consequences for thoughtless, casual sex are often life changing. Kids and diseases. If you don't realize that, then you probably aren't mature enough to have sex in the first place (mentally and emotionally that is). 21. I'd like to extend this question a bit. Are different sized containers tested separately under the TSO process? And if so, are different sized reserves tested with the different sized containers? Or does one set of tests cover the entire range of container and reserve sizes (and combinations of them)? The practice of stuffing an oversized reserve into a container is often veiwed as an inconvenience for the rigger who has to pack it and unneccessary wear on the container, but I don't recall seeing any discussion on how it would affect the opening characteristics. 22. Sure she does. If she is an unfit mother, and using the "child support" money for beer then the father should sue for custody, take care of the child and get support from the mother. It isn't common, but it happens a lot more today than it used to. And don't forget that child support doesn't come close to covering the full cost of raising a kid. 23. Wait. Probably a long time. That "full size cut" went through your abdominal wall muscles. They will take a while to heal, and if you tear them before they fully heal it will be a fairly serious situation. It's going to be a long time before you can do sit-ups without pain. That is one possible measure. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  25. Actions have consequences. If you aren't willing to face the consequences, don't do the action. Sometimes it really isn't anybodys fault, the condom breaks for example, but that doesn't change the outcome. Traditionally, the kid stays with the mom, but fathers have rights too. If the "child support" isn't supporting the child, then he should seek custody and get support from the mom. I agree that adoption choices shouldn't be left up to just the mom. But the thought of forcing a mom to give up her kid (or even face the choice of giving up the kid vs giving up support from the father) is abhorrent to me. In short, if you aren't willing to face her having your kid (and paying for it for the next 18 years) then don't stick your dick in her. Get a blowjob instead. I was thinking this while reading the original thread, but there was no way in hell I was going to post this there "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
