  1. It's been noted that for DECADES, Trump would milk the system and delay legal cases against him, often for years, until the person he screwed over gave up. Often because without the money he ripped them off for, they had to close down. Some committed suicide. It's REALLY nice to see that they just keep going and going. That his delay tactics are just failing left and right. His idiot 'attorney', Habba, said that James's efforts to seize Trump's assets 'won't be successful'. https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4483371-trump-lawyer-habba-brushes-off-ny-ag-threat-seize-assets/#:~:text=Court Battles-,Trump lawyer Alina Habba brushes off NY AG threat to,It will not be successful'&text=Alina Habba%2C an attorney for,his civil business fraud trial. Somehow, I don't think James will have too much difficulty convincing a court that Trump either can't or won't pay, and for a court to seize assets in that situation is actually very common. I really can't wait to see that happen. And Trumpty Dumpty's reactions. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll have a stroke. On live TV. No, I'm not a very nice person.
  2. That's pretty cool. There's a 928 part supplier who does online ordering, but the 'most fun' way to order is to call and talk to the owner. He's an ex-pat Brit, living in Texas, selling parts for German cars. He's super knowledgeable about the cars, owns like 8 or 9, including a couple super rare ones, and is just an all around fun guy. He's active on FB and the car boards, doesn't take himself too seriously, but is passionate about the 928. Phone calls for parts orders often take an extra 10 or 15 minutes, because he asks a fair amount of questions to make sure the part being ordered is correct for the specific car (there's a LOT of variance over the years) and just chatting about the cars in general. Best story: I was talking on the phone, placing an order, and I wanted a hat. The connection wasn't the best, so he couldn't understand what I was asking for. So I asked instead if he carried a cap. Still couldn't understand. Thought about it a second or two, then asked for a 'chapeau' (French for hat). He said something like "Oh, a hat. No, I don't carry those. Talking to an ex-pat Brit, purchasing parts for a German car and we use French to understand each other.
  3. O'Reilly Auto Parts has a sense of humor, even if GM doesn't. https://www.oreillyauto.com/flux-capacitor
  4. I am hopeful. But the amount of shit that Trumpty Dumpty has done that would have destroyed 'mere mortal' candidates is inconceivable (yes, I know what that word means). On the 'hopeful' side, he's done a damned good job of destroying everything and everyone he touches. So his taking over the GOP is a pretty good indicator that it's doomed.
  5. There's also the issue that poll firms call land lines. I haven't had a land line for well over a decade.
  6. Mine doesn't. Bolts are governed to 92 mph. I've been told it's because of the gearing and max RPMs on the electric drive motor. My 928 has a rated top speed of 155 mph. I've had it a bit over 100, but I really don't have anywhere to go much faster without putting myself and others at an unacceptable level of risk. I took the 928 out to California about 10 years ago, and part of the trip plan was to let it loose out in Utah or Nevada. Unfortunately, there was a balance issue with the tires, so it started shaking above 90. I've known of shakes like that that would appear at one speed, but go away at higher speeds (and reappear again at still higher speeds). But it didn't go away past 100, so I backed off. Running across Nevada at 90 was still fun.
  7. There IS a valid fear that he could win again. I'm less and less worried about it as time goes by. The polls showing him leading Biden are somewhat suspect. There's a lot of reasons to question their validity. The biggest reason is how they've done for the primaries. While Trump won all the primaries but one, he didn't even come close to the margin of victory the polls predicted. Some polls had him winning by double what he actually won by. So polls that show him a few percent above Biden don't bother me much. The idea that the RNC is now being run by Trump's minions is fucking hilarious. It's abundantly clear that Trump is going to loot the bank accounts to pay for all his 'troubles'. As a result, the ability of the RNC to support any other candidates is going to be highly compromised. So Republicans everywhere are going to get shortchanged. And screwed over. And will lose. I'm sure there are some Rs that have enough on their own to win. And there are quite a few that are in districts so solid that the winner is going to be an "R". A lot of the big donors won't want the money they donate to go into Trump's pocket. So donations will drop. They already are. Trump is likely going to do more damage to the Republican party than anyone thought possible back in 2015. It's tempting to call this a 'nail in the coffin', or a 'death knell', and it may well be. But that's not certain.
  8. Well, I clicked on Brent's link and read the article. The FIRST thing was that there was a pop-up whining and crying that Google is 'attacking' them. Calling them liars for having articles full of... Lies. And trying to get them shut down... For lying. And I find the comparison rather disingenuous. The brake dust and tire particles are much higher than tailpipe emissions from ICE cars. But how do they compare to the ICE's brake dust and tire particles? A typical example of the Alt-right comparing apples to bunny rabbits. And they call the "Main Stream Media" fake. I also found the bitching about range estimates to be laughable. They claimed that EVs have about 60% of the promoted range, because it's 'best practice' to keep the battery between 20% and 80% state of charge (which is true). However, it's ALSO 'best practice' to keep your gas tank in an ICE car above 1/4 tank. Many modern cars have the fuel pump in the tank, the fuel surrounding the pump keeps it cool. Running the tank low on a regular basis will let the pump run hotter and it will fail sooner. While it's best for the battery of an EV to keep it in the 'safe area', there's no reason not to charge to 100%, or run it down close to zero, as long as you don't do it all the time. Edit to add: They also repeat the lie that the power generation for the electricity pollutes just as much as the tailpipe of an ICE car. While coal generated power isn't 'super clean', it still creates less pollutants than what comes out the back of an ICE car. By a huuuuuge margin. Also ignores the fact that coal makes up less than 20% of power generation. Personally, my local power utility generates from hydro. They have a natural gas 'peaker' that comes on when the demand is higher than the river can provide, but I charge off peak, so my car is damned near 'zero emissions'. For real.
  9. What "Right" are you talking about? Seriously, do you even know what the 1st Amendment SAYS? More important, do you know what it means? And who it applies to? When LouDiamond (Scott Campos) was moderating on here, he had a pretty good comeback for the concept you're trying to present.
  10. Palin was at least Governor of Alaska. While she wasn't considered a very good one, holding a Governor's office is a typical step to the White House. Carter, Clinton, Reagan & Bush 2 all were off the top of my head. Again, Harris was a US Senator. California AG. DA of San Francisco (all elected offices). Before that she worked in the Alameda County DA's office, San Francisco DA's office and for the City of San Francisco. Kind of hard to say she was chosen because she was a "Woman of Color". But you seem to be saying it anyway.
  11. Apparently, early Bolts did the same thing. Mine turns on the brake lights if I lift using OPD, or if I pull the 'regen paddle', a lever on the back of the steering wheel that activates full power regen.
  12. The Chevy Bolt has a nifty thing called "One Pedal Driving" (OPD). Lifting off the accelerator pedal (I'm not going to call it the 'gas pedal') puts it into full regen. All the way to a complete stop. There have been a couple anecdotal stories about accidents that were avoided because the car stopped incredibly fast. It's been suggested that OPD starts braking as soon as the accelerator comes up, so the delay between lifting and nailing the brake pedal doesn't factor in as much. Since OPD doesn't use the brakes at all, the brake master, caliper pistons and caliper sliders don't see any use. So it's suggested putting the car in neutral and using the brakes to stop once or twice a week to keep things from getting gunged up and not moving. Since I drive for a living, I don't use OPD. I want to keep the 'muscle memory' reflex of lifting off the accelerator, moving to the brake and slamming on the pedal for panic stops. But even the brake pedal goes into regen when pressed gently. There's a fair amount of pedal travel before the actual friction brakes become a factor. My car had 16k on it when I got it. The inspection report said the brake pads were 'like new'.
  13. 'Cuz 'only the little people pay taxes'. (Bonus points to anyone who remembers who said that)
  14. If I understand correctly, declaring a 'military emergency' and using the troops to help hold power was part of the plan to keep Trump in office.
  15. It worked for Bush 1 & Biden (not the first try) and Nixon (also not the first try). It didn't work for Mondale, Gore, or Humphrey (Johnson's).
  16. She didn't have national 'name recognition'. I'm going to guess (not much more than an amateur poli-sci geek) that a lot of her lack of support was that she was seen as 'non-viable' on the national stage. Sort of "she'll never get anywhere, so I'm not going to waste my vote".
  17. Well, she's not unpopular with people who don't hate women with brown skin. She's quite qualified. US Senator, State Attorney General, prosecutor, a solid background of being effective in all those positions. (Note: The overall misogyny and racism in the US mean that her qualifications are WELL ABOVE what any white man would need to obtain those positions) Far better qualified than Quayle or Gore, who both had the main qualification of being born to rich and powerful daddies.
  18. Biden was quite qualified. In fact, I don't think he added to his qualifications from 2016 to 2020. Cheney, while rather evil, was quite qualified. He'd been in fairly high government positions for a long time. SecDef under Bush 1 (during Desert Storm), House Minority Whip for a short time before becoming SecDef Chief of Staff under Ford. Many people also consider Cheney to be the 'real power' when Bush 2 was in office. I don't fully believe that, but he had a LOT more power and authority than a typical VP. Ford did ok. Not great, but he was given a really shitty deal when he took office. Johnson did pretty good. He was a pretty awful person, but he took Kennedy's legacy and kept some of it going (Civil Rights and the space program).
  19. Not unlike Tina Fey parodying Sarah Palin, it's best to watch a mash up of both Britt & Johanssen, first one saying a bit, then the other saying the same part. In this case, Johanssen took some liberties with what Britt said. When Tina Fey did it, all she changed was the inflection and the timing. And it was truly brutal.
  20. So why, exactly, should Biden replace Harris as his running mate. And with whom?
  21. It's not all that scary. Just non-typical. So the fools can't figure out how to pronounce it, and absolutely refuse to be 'told' how.
  22. Why would he switch? Harris has a record of doing a good job, no scandals (no legitimate ones), presented well as VP. She hasn't misspelled 'potato'. Are you suggesting that if Biden has a real chance of not finishing his term, he should dump the woman with dark skin? Because she's a woman with dark skin?
  23. Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos started off supporting Trump's claims of 'election fraud'. But once it became clear that the 'fraud' was all from Trump, Vos backed off and ended up firing the former State Supreme Court justice he had hired as an investigator. So, of course, the Trumpettes retaliated. They tried to 'primary' Vos, and are now engaged in a recall attempt. Of course, that takes money. So Trump's "Save America" PAC funnelled money to the opponent. Allegedly illegally. The Ethics Commission has recommended felony charges against several individuals, including a sitting state representative. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/wisconsin-ethics-panel-recommends-felony-charges-against-trump-fundraising-committee-lawmaker
  24. Like so many things, "muscle car" is pretty subjective. My understanding is that 'true' muscle cars are full sized sedans, with the biggest motor available. Although smaller motors (both 6 & 8 cylinder) were available, unless it had the big block V-8 it wasn't truly a muscle car. Chargers & Road Runners, Impalas & Belvederes, GTOs (LeMans body), 442s & F-85s, Torinos & Galxies. Put a big V-8, the big 426 Hemi in the Mopars, and you have a 'muscle car'. Stuff like Camaros, Mustangs, Barracudas, at least the earlier ones, were considered 'pony cars', not true muscle cars. Another measure was what NASCAR was running. Road Runners, Chargers, Torinos, Impalas, Monte Carlos & Grand Prix (Prixes?) into the 70s. Camaros & Mustangs were running Trans Am road races. Sports car races. Again, very subjective and not any 'official' definition. Good point. I have a 600 that could probably turn a sub 12 if I really tried. I choose to not beat on it that much, Still, just about any EV can take most ICE cars off the line. The electric drive generates every available foot pound of torque from 1 RPM on up. Without any sort of torque curve, the power delivery is amazing. I have a (reasonably) cheap little Bolt, and if I push on it, I can beat most cars when the light turns green. It's also handy for passing on 2 lane roads. Swing out, hit it, and I can get around and back in super quick.
  25. From the article: I think the court system is getting a bit tired of the Mango Mussolini's bullshit. About fucking time.
