  1. I'm sure that having an airbag deploy in your face as you're merging into traffic on a busy highway would be dangerous, but do you think about that possibility every time you get into your car ?? 2. I'd also like to thank all of the organizers and Flockers for a great time. Thanks for letting this newbie in on some of the best skydiving I've done in a long time. I'm hooked on w'suiting and ready for more.
  3. It's going to be a Total hoot ! The weather is perfect today, and should be the same all weekend.
  4. Just remember, there's no hurry to unstow brakes. I've seen people reach up as soon as the canopy is open, and pop the brakes loose, without even looking at the toggles. You can steer the canopy just fine with risers. When all is under control, look at the toggles, make sure there is no line anywhere it shouldn't be, and unstow the brakes. I was asked why I have 5 hook knives on my CRW rig. The answer was obvious - there wasn't room for 6. 5. We had a pilot shoot out at our DZ once. There were several pilots shot and a lot of bullet holes around the place. kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  6. This is the practice in the United States. Theoretically, pulling the pin is the only way to open the reserve container. The seal, which has the rigger's FAA-issued identifier symbol, assures the integrity of the pack - that the reserve container has not been opened since the rigger inspected and repacked it. ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  7. On a Racer-type container, the pins are against the wearer's back, so they can't be checked while wearing the rig. Kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  8. OH MY GOD !! I just checked, and there's a lead seal on my reserve. I'm going to get to the bottom of this !! ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  9. Do NOT try to slip a cheap beer onto the DZ with Wendy there. I'm just saying that's a rule you should memorize right away. If you break that one, you will regret it in ways you can never imagine. Check her website for details...and I do mean Details. 10. Or you could just become a freeflyer, and we'll call it even. Kevin K. ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  11. Or at least bigger... ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  12. Howard, Thanks for sharing the good words about Ricky. And pass along a thank you to Dave for his. We should all be so lucky as to have our friends feel this way when we reach that clearing at theend of the path. 13. IIRC there was concern that a jumper could become unstable, spinning uncontrollably, in the thin atmosphere at 100k ft. I don't think that the drogue was to control his speed. A tandem drogue is primarily to control speed, but certainly adds stability, I think. (I've never made a tandem jump either
  14. Correct. That's why it's called "free"-fall. Unassisted by any stability device. Kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  15. Buy decent used gear and spend more $ on jumps to become a better skydiver. Gear doesn't make you better, experience does. Kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  16. I don't have any music to suggest, but the video looks great. Let's see the rest... Kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  17. I think you should buy a new one and pass it on to me at a great discount after a few jumps. Kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  18. The U. S. National Aeronautic Assn. has released its list of "Most Memorable Aviation Records of 2005". From over 100 records set last year, NAA has picked eight as the most memorable. Among these is the 85-Way Canopy Formation World Record built at Lake Wales, Florida, USA, in November, 2005. I know it was one of my best memories of 2005.
  19. And I thought this was an obituary of some sort ... ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  20. Where can the Scott Miller article be found ?? Kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  21. There has been shown to be a direct correlation between currency and overall safety. Also, it is an accepted fact that more overall experience makes currency less of a factor in safety, although it still plays a part. Having said that, since we are dealing with people, all bets are off when you try to pin it down too closely. Everyone is different, as has been stressed in this thread. Just be aware that skills degrade with time. I also agree with Ron, that no matter how many times you throw a pilot chute across your living room or wear your rig while watching video, jumping is jumping, and is the ONLY way to stay current. 22. I first met Don at Palatka in the 70s, when he was making jumpsuits in a trailer at the DZ. He really gave a lot to our sport, and will be missed. Kevin ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  23. Great post. Thanks for the wise words that you have sent out to all of us over the years.
  24. Many are called, but few are chosen...well, I guess 100 are chosen. Good Luck. Kevin K. ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
  25. Re: [Calle] Where are all the lightnings? In Brett Clark's trailer. ====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain...
