  1. It's pretty hard for me to get angry, and I don't really hold grudges. Sometimes every now and then someone will cross the line, and I'll snap, either verbally, or trying to tackle them. For an example, I was driving a group of us around base. I normally drive a Honda Civic, and was not used to driving a huge full-sized duty van. I took corners a little fast, but otherwise didn't do anything reckless. One of my fellow co-workers decided to express his distaste in my driving, by opening my door, and throwing all the water from his water bottle in my face. There's only been 3 or 4 times in my life I've been pissed off enough to charge at someone. That was one of those times. Completely uncalled for on both our parts. 2. Clean break, but it still looked like a closed fracture, which is good. Open fractures give me the chills. Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.
  3. I used to own a Saitek. They're mostly built for gamers, but they are a great keyboard with some impressive illumination. Also they look hella cool. Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.
  4. And Jeb is trying to land that? The sound of the flybys almost sounds artificial. Does a wingsuit really make that sound? Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.
  5. Try going to bed no earlier than 11pm, and waking up at 4-5am every day for a whole 5 day work week, only to have a 14hr work day, starting off with holding hands in the 54 degree surf for 3-4 sessions of 10-15min. Then you get 30min to eat, before you sprint a mile, PT for over 2hrs, and then complete a 4mi run. Then you lay in the surf again holding hands, singing songs. Then you carry a telephone pole while doing lunges and races for 3hrs. Then you can finally get some sleep, after you get your stuff ready for the next day. Oh wait, it's already the next day. You go to bed at 12am, and wake up at 3:30am, to complete a 4mi run at 4am. I'm not too sympathetic to your one time 4am excursion. 6. I took a camera with me to grab some stills under canopy somewhere between jumps 40-50. The pictures were good, and I had a lanyard attached to the hard frame of the camera. Looking back on it now, I was distracted under canopy, which could potentially have resulted in a canopy collision, plus the lanyard risks a chance of entanglement, should you cut away. My recommendation: Wait until you are extremely comfortable under canopy. Do a Hop&Pop when nobody else is, so your airspace is clear, and pull high (at least 4000ft). Take it out, take multiple pictures, but don't look at the one's you take until you are back on the ground. I don't recommend doing it at all, but if you absolutely must, do it quickly, and restow the camera and/or lanyard as quickly as possible. I'd also recommend doing this on a relatively calm day. Not just winds on the ground, but aloft as well. Do it during one of your last jumps, that way you know if there's turbulent air and/or crazy winds aloft. Twilight...

...is definitely not on my list of good movies. In fact, this was pretty much my reaction to the preview for a sequel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpcAGp7WnbE Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.

  13. I gotta give my vote to Howard Shore. The LOTR trilogy would not have been the same if it wasn't for his music. The way he composed that score is beyond me, because it's possibly one of the best movie scores ever composed. I also like Hans Zimmer's music a lot, but his music does sound very similar in a lot of his movies. Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.

  17. Well said, and very true. Even the smarter BUD/S guys won't say they're in BUD/S. They make up some other job, sometimes off the wall. One of my favorites: "I'm a rope handler for the Goodyear blimp." Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.
  18. The only men that I was ever intimidated by were UDT/SEAL Instructors. The blue shirts, cammie hat, cammie pants, and Gator sunglasses always sent a chill down my spine. Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.

  22. Did an air show demo from about 2700ft. Cloud layer was around 3000, but there were so many spectators, we didn't want to disappoint. Had a long way to go. Good thing we had a tail wind. Managed a perfect standup landing right in front of the spectators. Then, Sonny's catering. Oh yeah! Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.
  23. One of my friends likes to tell one of those really long, drawn out jokes with a lame punchline. The purpose is not to make people laugh, but to see their reaction after they suffer through such a long tale. Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours.

  25. Everybody's so hard on themselves early on. Don't worry about your exits, fall rate control, etc. I literally just had exits start working out for me around jump 100. My belly flying still needs work, but I'll occasionally have a great 3-4 way, and turn a lot of points. You'll have your good jumps, and you'll have your bad jumps. What you really need to do is look at where you are now, where you were 20-30 jumps ago, and take pride at your current level. Hell, I spent most of my 50-100 jumps on track dives. Tracking is something I was just good at, beginning in AFF when I did my first delta. Find what you're good at, get people together who enjoy that particular discipline, and just have fun. If you want to work on belly flying, find that group of people at your DZ that recruits random jumpers into 4-5 ways. I've messed up the dive flow plenty of times, but they still have fun regardless, and I've learned a lot of pointers since then.
