  1. I think this is DeJaVu. I didn't take the time to find the other post but I think you (DSE) posted something similar a few months back. I am one of these audiophiles. And I spend a lot of money on gear. Like 10's of thousands. With gear like that it makes a difference in the cables. Even in the line voltage cables. Some audiophiles, myself included, go so far as to have an isolated circuit with even more expensive wiring and outlets including the ground to have the electricity as clean as possible. Believe it or not the cable you are looking at really isn't that expensive compared to some. If you "listen" to music and have the right gear there really is a difference. It's kind of like the 4K. You and I can appreciate the RED ONE but most would never understand. I'm sure you would not even flinch. If you really bought one and mounted it to your Tonfly most people would think you were smoking crack. (maybe you have one already) It's all about what you're into. Ya Know what I mean? For those that are unfamiliar if you want to see something that makes HD look like VHS then click here: http://www.red.com/
  2. Talk to Aerodyne in Tampa Florida. They have rigs on the shelf waiting for a harness in your size. It takes less than 2 weeks. If I had the euro bucks I wouldn't even think twice about it as low as the dollar is. I wouldn't even test jump the used gear you're looking at. You're wasting your time at that price.
  3. I don't think the price is that much different. The quality of the Z1 isn't really what I question. I think it's built well. It's the design and features that I don't care for. I think the Hurricane is well worth the extra bucks. One thing that Airtwardo mentioned is the audible attachment. The Hurricane mounts on the outside. They will never be in the way. You do however need to make the extra effort to make sure they're secure. [I lost one recently due to riser slap] The Z1 allows for the audible to be held inside of the helmet but there really isn't any room for it so it becomes very uncomfortable. The difference in design is easy to see. No helmet is perfect and selecting one is a very subjective process.
  4. I agree. A 170 barely fits in a J3. I think this whole setup is a bad deal and it's waaay over priced. Keep looking.
  5. I am an avid roadie myself. Just got in from a 100k. You would think there would be something but there really isn't anything that great. The best place to find bike parts by far is EBay. www.cyclingforums.com is another one but you won't find much there.
  6. I don't have one because I think they're kind of wimpy. A little on the soft side. I prefer a harder shell than what the EVO offers. A similar style that I like is the SkySystems Hurricane.
  7. A lot of people say this but what exactly does it mean? What are the consequences? We've had the FAA out to our dropzone but they've never put us on a scale or even looked at our gear for that matter. I've seen a lot of people [including our S&TA @ 295 lbs]with a lot of jumps well exceeding the placarded weight of their H/C and reserves. Are they jumping illegally?

  9. Hum dee dum .......Yawn. Didn't you get her email address?
  10. Very nice..All kidding aside, although exagerated, there is some truth to what you write. We've got one at our DZ right now. What a PITA
  11. When you're first learning jump in shorts and a baggy sweatshirt. It's much easier with no drag on your legs and alot on your arms. $2500 for a transmission? Dude. Buy one at a junk yard for $1000 and do it yourself.
  12. Keeping this thread alive. I have a similar problem. I have difficulty keeping my feet out. In other words the air is hitting my shins. I am trying to fix this now by trying to keep my feet out where I can see my toes kind of. It's hard and I inevitably end up on my back.
  13. I'll fourth Liquid Sky. Julio Ruiz is getting it right. There are others out there that are good but Julio's service is very personalized and one on one. You're pretty much dealing with the guy that's putting it together. Although he does have a seamstress he does a lot of the work himself.
  14. I wouldn't talk to my DZO for jack. He's the worst canopy pilot on the dropzone.
  15. Tell me one modern container designed for a 190 that won't hold a 170.
  16. You keep talking about canopy size. What you mean is wing loading.
  17. Personally I think you'll need to get a hundred jumps on the 190. You may be bored but it is imperative that you build some basic skills before moving to a more exciting canopy. Some on this forum may even say a 210 because of your low jump numbers and currency. Buying a rig that fits a 190 and a 170 is completely within normal parameters. All containers have the variable ability to hold different size mains safely.
  18. Ditto on that. The Vector I bought new last year was very uncomfortable even after going back a few times. Another thing I've noticed on new Vectors is the riser covers never seem to be closed very good. Almost like the yoke is being stretched so much that the flap won't line up with its receptacle. I have an Infinity that is awesome. Albeit the Skyhook isn't available for it. I also have a new Icon that is very comfortable as well.
  19. Yea.....After owning both I'll have to agree. The VISO is impossible to figure out unless you have the manual. It is just too complicated to mess around with. I'm a gadget geek and love to figure things out but the VISO makes no sense. The Neptune is much more user friendly and is easier to read. Without the manual I think it would be hardpressed to find anybody that remembers all of the little codes to set it up unless they are changing it around on a regular basis. OP...download a manual or better yet order a Neptune.
  20. I use the site as well however you have to be careful how you read the informtion. Pilots and aviation in gerneral refer to the direction the winds are coming from. As an example the wind at 270 is moving from west to east. It's direction is not 270. I've noticed on the US Airnet site it is possible to have this displayed backwards. (possibly as a user preference). The raw data is very easy to read once you figure out how it is written. That's the best and it too is available on usairnet.com. wunderground.com has a lot of good information also and additionally has a very comprehensive and powerful weather history database.
  21. I work in the field That Mel is performing some contracting in as a customer. When this type of work comes up it has time sensitive window to get it done or else. The contractors go in are tied to their cell phones and laptops. Working very long hours. Dealing with unforseen issues. Living out of hotel rooms. Taking calls into the late hours, early start times. No weekends or holidays off. Writing reports in their spare time, of which there is none. Don't forget about dealing with the old lady at home who will always have an earful for you. Some of these guys never sleep. I'm sure he has access to his laptop but I doubt he has a spare second for non contracted work related email. I waited six months for my H-mod ( not from Mel). When you get it you will love the mod. Ummm. I think that's ok if you don't have another buisiness. But when you know people are counting on you this comment makes absolutely no sense whatsoever unless this is some prearranged deal. Apparantly he disappears and reappears at his own leisure without any notice. This has come up before on this forum and Mel himself responded. He appolized and explained the nature of his covert job. He also said he would never drop the ball again. I know what kind of workd Mel does. He has done quite a bit for me in fact. The wait isn't the problem. The uncertainty is.
  22. It's great to hear from somebody at Ouragan. The reason I didn't get a jumpsuit from you and went with Liquied Sky is your delivery time and the fact that nobody would answer the phone. I was told at the time that a new factory was going on line in Canada in a few weeks and I would see my jumpsuit in a month or so. 3 months later I had to cancel my order because I was tired of jumping in my jeans. Is this problem fixed now? If it is I will order another jump suit from you today.
  23. Try a "head low" postion on your next opening for grins. Of my 2 Stiletto 190's I packed, repacked and tried everything and even had other people jump both canopies. One remark from the DZO "Instant canopy, this thing sucks" Maybe I just had a pair of bad canopies but there is no question they had far from soft openings. I bought both of them new at the same time and sold them both to the same guy for about 1/2 price. If they really worked for me I would not be without them now.
