Or were they mentally ill? there aren't enough details here about the couple to make a "judgement." many public defenders are lax to get mental health evaluations on their clients. I often see many prisoners with severe illness that do not belong in prison, but in a forensic hospital. My heart was torn today when I one of my patients told me how afraid he is of his former "cellie." The patient is not only schizophrenic but mentally retarded. He is imprisoned for arson. He is much better served in a hospital. As far as this couple, we won't know about the state of mind either of them were in. Keep in Mind, Andrea Yates was grossly psychotic when she killed her children. this couple could have been tremendously impaired. and still be vegan.

Some big box pet stores have pet adoption on the weekends. I got pc from BARC (Benevolent animal rescue something). About two years later, I found three dogs. I kept one and adopted out two. From previous threads, I'm of the understanding that we are just one step above animals and really have no ability to control our natural urges. How can we possibly tell someone that something is not right to do and expect them to take the advice to heart? If we really don't believe that telling ordinary teenagers that random acts of sex will potentially screw up their lives, how can we expect to convince someone with a demented mind not to follow their urges? all the more reason why these people need to be kept from further hurting society.

billvon, my point about sharing this info with all, is to let everyone know how common child molestation is, as in an earlier post, someone felt that the statistics were too high. Much of the world has been in denial as to child molestation. It is such a selfish, shameful act, that no one wants to admit that this happens, and happens often, to alot of children.

as I posted before Jakee, these statistics haven't changed much in the past 20 years. I got the average childmolester molests 56 children from a Hilraudo (sp?) special years ago. the other statistics that I posted have been in the literature for years and years and years. at this point, they are common knowledge. as I said, I urge you to look up the stats yourself, as it seems that you don't believe me about how common child molestation is. Call up Martin Finkel, DO and ask the office for stats, and info. Dr. Finkel is one of the top experts in the US on child molestation.

Both Richards and Douva have very good points. I don't like the registry myself. I think it's a very inadequate solution for a very serious crime (child molestation- which is what the list was initially about). Someone else mentioned earlier in the thread that if they are that much of a danger to society, keep them locked up. the punishment needs to fit the crime. and for survivors of sexual abuse, especially repeated abuse, often suffer for a lifetime.

You're the first one to bring up the details, and they are obviously bogus. Fake stats like those just muddy the waters and harm your cause. That would be an incredibly bad way to try and collect meaningful information. These statistics are NOT bogus. the education of america and the world is Bogus. Do you know how Freud ended up with his Electra/Oedpis theories? Initially, he reported that his patients had been sexually abused as children. The public was outraged, so he changed his theory that the children "fantasized" about having sex with their father's, mothers. If child molestation is so rare, than why have I been abused by three family members, my mother was abused by an adult neighbor (she was 5 years old), and my Great Grandmother was having sex with her thirteen year old son? Does that sound rare to you? Child molestation is not uncommon. It is very common. Last year, I had my own practice (psyciatry). of my 60 regular patients, about 90% had been molested at a young age. In all of my years of training, most of my patients have been molested. This information is not fake. Just do a google search for statistics on child molestation. you'll come up with many reliable sources with similar stats. Contact your local women's shelter, or rape centers, and ask them for literature on statics. You're in for an eye-opening experience. I have been studying the subject since I was 18. I am now 38. So for 20 years, I've been looking at the data. It hasn't changed much. But don't believe me, my having a medical and degree and 6 and half years of post graduate training in family practice and psychiatry. or someone who has an interest in forensic psychiatry and has been working in the California Department of corrections, who sees child molesters 5 days a week.
