  1. I'm looking to either get a ride to the DZ or share a rental from the Ontario CA Airport. I'm attending the P3 100-Way Camp May 7-10, 2009. I arrive on Wednesday around noon. Dano
  2. The group running Skydive Deland, along with the plane captains are to be commended for keeping the cost of the record skydives as economical as possible. NO registration fee, 5 airplane formation jumps to 18,000 feet and oxygen, all for 29.00 a jump! Simply amazing! Skydive Deland ROCKS..... THANKS......... Dano
  3. Don't forget the proper gear.... Best bike for the first several 1,000 miles is similar to the one's she will be riding in th class. Buy it used and cheep then sell it after several 1,000 miles. Best way to learn. Tell he she is invisible and TOTALLY responsible for everything that happens around her, regardless who is to blame. If she needs to use her horn, she is not being proactive. Dano
  4. The quick answer is no, you did not do the correct thing because others were in the air ( you may have thought you cleared the air) and you were not predictable and did not follow the excepted pattern. If you were in the air by yourself, you can do what you did and get away with it. Best, if you don't like the pattern because "your" wind has changed, is to land out and away from the pattern. Pretend that you were following you. Would you know what to expect? Dano
  5. Call the DZ manafest and get with Phantom. He can pick you up. Dano
  6. There are always expenses for raising money and if the cause is good, as in this one, ( we probably all know those who have been touched by this horrible disease ) then ALL incremental amounts going to prevent it are positive. You can always find flaws in fund raising, and can pick and poke to bring out the negative, but what ever the amount raised, it is good and MUCH better than before the event. ALL incremental amounts go to help fund the research and prevention. Dano
  7. I've used Everbank.com for at least the last 5 years with no problems. Lots of benefits and easy to use. Pay good interest rate on balance too. Dano
  8. For a long time I was against universal "free" health care in the US for everyone, but I was wrong and do not see an alternative. From a strictly financial point of view, when you factor in the cost to manage the health care as we know it today in the US; I.E. Insurance Companies, your private company's care (they get to deduct the cost from their tax bill) Federal Govts oversee, Third party not caring what it cost, plus the fact that health care providers over charge to get minimum amount of reimbursement, it will actually cost less. My guess is that less then 1/2 of what is paid actually covers the cost of treatment. The other 1/2 is for it's management. There are too many hands in the pot. Everyone should have some sort of care in a civilized nation and it should not bankrupt them. Life style is the cause of many ills and preventive health care can play a major role in lowering the cost of health care for everyone. Dano
  9. Muff jumps always scare me....... Too many things to be thinking about! Dano
  10. sounds good but I would like to be in on this. I don't want to commit a whole bunch of jumps for a record attempt we got people needing Muff numbers and that's way more important Rick, Say What? Dano
  11. Interesting post, but for most skydivers, the bottom line is very relevant, but only at the manifest of their local DZ and where they plan to jump. Until something simple and universally understood is agreed upon, better check to see how YOUR manifest interprets the rule and error on the side of 179 days. Since the new rule went into effect, I use 179 days as my cutoff. Happy for the change. Dano
  12. Having recently finished grad school, I just wanted to try it and see what it was like to be under a parachute. Not knowing anything about it, I signed up for the static line class, expecting to make just one jump. I didn't even know there was such a thing as freefall. After the first jump, I was hooked and immediately went up for my second static line jump. Then I found out that you could actually jump without the parachute coming out and do it yourself! Been addicted ever since...... Dano
  13. That's what I'm doing with them..... If more are wanted - I'll gladly order them. Dano
  14. There is a corporate jet that flys out of Z-Hills on a regular basis. Can't tell if it's more than one. There is also a non US military trainer that flys in regularly for touch and goes and does cross country flights. Dano
  15. One of the KEYS is to keep the lens clean. Be careful using toothpaste on your skydiving lens because many are abrasive. The cleaner the better. Dano
  16. Betty and crew, Best of luck and congratulations on the new facility. I know I must still have a few dollars on the manifest so I'm going to try to make it there for the grand re-opening.... Looking forward to it. Dano
  17. They only cost $2.00 and can be ordered on line with no charge for postage. Simply go to: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=MICS Dano
  18. In the Incidents Forum, I mentioned something that I have attached to my motorcycle helmet for safety contact information. I have been contacted several times off line for information on the vinyl pocket that attachés to the outside of your skydiving helmet that contained WHO TO CONTACT and MEDICAL information. Here it is: The Medical Information Carrier System (MICS for short) is a plastic pouch that adheres to the outside of your helmet, along with a two-sided information form that you fill out with medical information. The form contains space for emergency contact information, brief medical history, and other data that emergency personnel might need. http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=MICS I've ordered 10 and will order more to give away at Z-Hills as soon as they come in. They are $2.00 each. Since I just found out that I won the Super Bowl pool last night I'll buy these for whoever wants one at Z-Hills..... size is 2" X 1" and stick on... Dano
  19. Things that have not happen, happen all the time! You can either go with the logical and compiled facts or listen to anecdotal information. The facts say that overall, you are safer with an RSL than not. Thinking otherwise is simply denial except in very few circumstances like a camera on your helmet. Dano
  20. There are several good reasons to not jump with and RSL; shooting pictures or some other highly specialized type of skydiving, but, if you want to go with the odds, you every buy a lottery ticket or gamble occasionally, have it and keep it hooked up. There are way too many reasons to have it than not. You are in denial to not use one. Dano
  21. Got nothing to do with the weather - It's all the candy this time of the year.... Sugar destroys the immune system! From Halloween through Christmas.... Candy all over the place. Dano
  22. WOW ! There sure is a lot of grey in that picture...... Can't wait till I'm old enough.... CONGRATULATION ..... Dano
  23. What a shame! It seems like I've been getting the magazine since my first jump and really looked forward to the articles and pictures. Just about the only place to get the latest information or quell the local rummer. Mike did a super job and the many of large pictures were clipped out for display. Hate to think it won't be coming next month. Mike, thanks for all that you did to keep us current of events and happenings..... The articles always addressed timely matters and I really loved the pictures. Dano

LT Congratulations on the 48-Way..... In a couple of years when "we" are shooting for a SOS 100-way, I'll be old enough! Good luck on the 60-way and watch out for all of that flaking rust.... Dano
