  1. google images seem to agree... ID'ing fish is not one of my talents. Where were you diving? Bonaire. IIRC that was the Windsock dive site near the airport Haven't been there yet. How are the conditions there? I am planning a Palau trip this October for 4 people and Cocos islands next year with no dates yet. I would like to organize a red sea trip for tech divers but I don't have enough people yet. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers

  8. "Redbull have continued to show what a large budget can do in terms of both stunt orchestration and production quality of video footage." In what way exactly? Did they also produce this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHusXQsBTGM Because I would revise this statement to: "Redbull have continued to show what a large budget can do in terms of PERMIT GENERATION and production quality of video footage."
  9. Replying to you but really this is for whoever. The iFly model is unpredictable at best. Until you see a tunnel built with your own eyes and you have successfully flown in it - it does not exist. There have been many tunnels promised like Philly, New Jersey, DC Phoenix, San Diego...you get the picture. Those blog updates on the construction phases are important to people who already fly but they are probably insignificant to the first-timers. After hours flying is also important to fliers but I don't see that happening in the "urban" tunnels either. There is a noticeable difference in going to a tunnel like Eloy or Paraclete or Perris where the tunnel is part of the DZ. You can hear the tunnel going all night long. On a wind-hold day the tunnel has spectators. It is usual to split a 30 minute block with one other group/flier who is doing a 15...instead of four first timers. doing 4 minutes each. And you can sneak in some tunnel time in the morning before the first load. Just like we consider "tandem" and "fun jumper" dropzones, we can now start to look at tunnels that are "fun" vs. "meh". 14. Excellent show. Dave, thanks for getting us in the air in Puerto Rico. This was one of the best shows you guys ever did. I would rank it up there with the Bill Booth, Norman Kent or Joe Jennings interviews. Everything here is my opinion alone - In my opinion: the podcast was too short. (I download it and listen in parts so it is not one continuous session. It is just funny to hear you say "This is going long" when I have a pause button.) - The "inside" talk was excellent. I actually paused the podcast, looked up "instrument" and "retract" flight logs. I never knew about the whole "Complex aircraft" thing with retractable gear like the King Air and having flaps and variable pith propellers. I spent an hour doing airplane related reading because of a side comment. I even found a thing called IvoProp as a tangent. - I would like to hear an interview with the guy whose pyro went off in the plane. That would be a fun segment. - The seat belt discussion should be a must for every skydiver. It should also be a must for whoever puts the seat belts on the rails. Wouldn't the right method be to load up the plane with jumpers wearing full gear and put the belt in the correct locations relative to each jumper? - As a tangent: Chest strap discussion with gear manufacturers. I was surprised to find out that some people don't know that the chest strap is not an anchor point. Isn't it in the owner's manual? - So next time the pilots are standing around looking like they are in deep discussion about the weather...that is a good time to stroll over and have a chit chat! I will make note of it. - And on the subject of farting in the plane....1) Own up to your farts and be proud of them. 2) It's not worth whining about it is only a scent and not a flavor. - I think you can devote a whole other show to jump pilots and issues related to exits and jump runs. Like does it really make sense to give the green light early for a large group? What do the pilots prefer to do with wingsuit exits? How do you configure the plane for low passes? Zero G before exit? Opinions on bump up to 18,000ft? Boobies for extra altitude are sexist or awesome?(Professionalism?) What about female jump pilots? - I think that Stump did a good job trying to keep you guys organized. Usually it is Dave that rules with an iron fist but it would appear that with the pilot buddies the group mentality takes over. - I would like to hear more about the airplane mechanical configuration. What is the deal with replacing exit lights? One of the skyvans I have jumped has a cowbell to alert for jump run. What doe it take to configure a plane for jumpers rather than cargo? Is it just to attach seat belts to the rails? Are there standards for steps? handholds? I almost fell off an otter once because the camera step was tiny and not where I expected it to be. You guys have been doing such a good job with the podcast for such a long time. Thanks for all of it. I really hope that the radioskydiveuk and jump26 guys keep it up too. 16. Woman: Is there a problem, Officer? Officer: Ma’am, you were speeding. Woman: Oh, I see. Officer: Can I see your license please? Woman: I’d give it to you but I don’t have one. Officer: Don’t have one? Woman: Lost it 4 times for drunk driving. Officer: I see…Can I see your vehicle registration papers please. Woman: I can’t do that. Officer: Why not? Woman: I stole this car. Officer: Stole it? Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner. Officer: You what? Woman: His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk if you want to see. The Officer looks at the woman, slowly backs away to his car, and calls for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun. Officer 2: Ma’am, could you step out of your vehicle please! The woman steps out of her vehicle. Woman: Is there a problem sir? Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner. Woman: Murdered the owner? Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please. The woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk. Officer 2: Is this your car, ma’am? Woman: Yes, here are the registration papers. The first officer is stunned. Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license. The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer. The officer snaps open the clutch purse and examines the license. He looks quite puzzled. Officer 2: Thank you ma’am, one of my officers told me you didn’t have a license, that you stole this car, and that you murdered and hacked up the owner. Woman: Betcha the lying bastard told you I was speeding too. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  17. The only correct tool to use for packing anything is a string that is handmade out of orange dacron lines woven with hairs from Bill Booth's beard, a dried piece of grass from the main landing area in Elsinore, a piece of straw from the hat of Eloy's S&TA (Burke), with a patented helical sweep of iFly's Alan Metni (Pat number: US7028542 B2) after being ceremoniously dunked in the Z-Hills swoop pond by the golden Knight's 8-way team while being filmed by Joe Jennings AND Norman Kent and delivered to the packer using Mike Mullin's super king air being flown by Dave (the pilot) from skydiveradio. That, or just use anything that happens to be lying around the packing mat. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  18. Just to be pedantic: In the movie, after the two trainees hit the ground, we clearly see a cypress installed in the rig. Airtec should really check these units because they clearly failed to fire. Deploying a reserve on the ground does not generate a fully inflated canopy. Same goes for a spring loaded main pilot chute. There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers

  20. So this is more for me than anyone else but whatever... These are some musings on the recently bought a brand new Curv Vc4 container to replace my Wings W13. The reserve is PDR176 and main Sabre2-170 with a Cypress2 AAD I am not a rigger The rig is assembled and packed and looks good. I haven't jumped it yet but here are a couple of things I noticed. The Curv packing volume chart shows that a PR-160 or an Optimum-176 are the correct size. We had no problems getting a PR-176 in the bag and the reserve tray closed easily with the recommended loop length. I can't talk enough about how easy it was to bag the main canopy. I need to take a closer look at the D-bag but I think it must have a combination of magic features that make bagging so easy. I am still learning how to handle the mag stows. I made a mess of it on the first try. It was easier to bring the bag to the rig than to s-fold as I go. Riser protection and the tuck tabs look solid. I like the placement of the Cypress cutter on the innermost flap because you don't get the gap when it is on the second flap. Warning! This is a can of worms: - On the one hand:having the cutter on the bottom of the reserve container means that the reserve loop can still catch on something after activation, so having the cutter in the flap is nice. - On the other hand: if the cutter activates and catches the loop instead of cutting it, there is no way to get the reserve out at all even if you pull silver. Both scenarios are highly unlikely. End of worms. The BOC spandex could be more susceptible to wear, velcro and airplane bits than the cordura that is in the Wings system. I am also not sure how easy it would be to replace it because the rig has not been on the market that long and the spandex gets better every year. I love the way the handles sit. I like that they are not actually inside the main lift web. I think the articulation is in the right place. The laterals are also well placed and comfy. The leg straps have two types of webbing. One webbing is more wear resistant and the other is for strength. The pockets for excess in the leg straps are placed in such a way that I never noticed how bad they were on other rigs until I put the Curv on for the first time. (I can't explain why) Another excellent feature is that once the main flap is closed there is no gap. I could routinely reach back and check my pin with a finger on my wings and I was always concerned that this gap is completely unnecessary. The main closing flaps have these metal rings like on a tandem rig to close them. I just can't get over the irrational fear that the metal on metal interaction between the pin and these rings will cause a PCIT. This is an internal mind game for me and nothing else. I opted for the silver reserve handle for no other reason than my initial training is on this setup and in a time of crisis I might fuck things up if I have something else. After I jump it, I will post more thoughts There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
  21. A few years ago in a major east coast boogie I took a guy on a wingsuit rodeo. This called for the rider to roll off at about 6-5k. This gives him enough time to get stable and pull high enough to make it back to the DZ. Everything went off as planned except he landed right next to his trailer and took a nap. I landed and went back to the Hangar. Upon realizing that he has not made it back I alerted the DZO and made it my mission to verify that he made it back. The DZO took this seriously and even though the landing area is HUGE, he sent up a 182 with an observer to look for a canopy in the trees that were way way off in the distance. Announcements were made, people were told to check in with manifest....two hours later, one of his buddies decides to go check the trailer just in case. I feel like an idiot that I barely knew the guy's name and did not plan the dive with the landing. I felt like even more of an idiot that he was just in the trailer. I don't feel bad about being adamant to find him after the jump and informing the DZO. The skydive ends when you are packed and ready to go home. Maybe someone knows the story of the guy who femured and bled out for 3 hours 500ft from the hangar? There are no dangerous dives Only dangerous divers
