  1. Sudden massive heart attack at age 90, when the jury finds me guilty of statutory rape. If at that age, I can convince 12 people beyond a reasonable doubt that 1) the underage female wanted to do it with me and 2) I was ABLE to complete the act I'll die a happy man! 2. It was the one Eric attached to the post at the beginning of the thread -- with the 150's prop sticking out the rear end of 817 "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."

  4. Eric- I took that photo of the DC-3 giving a painful birth to a Cessna 150- Actually, the guy was tryring to land downwind and decided to do a go around. C-150 don't climb worth %&$#! with full flaps, and it stalled and started a spin, It was only about 5 feet off the ground, so the left wing hit the runway, causing the plan to veer right at 817. 5. Mike -- He said they went pretty well. What more than that do you want? That's less than 10% of the size load he was recently on. Of course, they only got one point. BlueSkies! 6. "Asset Protection" is a whole specialty practice in law. I was employed as a "workout officer" for a Beverly HIlls bank for 20 years and learned a lot about the subject from the best crooks in the world, Century City attorneys! Their job was to make sure their clients didn't have to pay back the money that had been borrowed from the bank. First of all, a corporation will NOT protect a natural person for something that was done by that person. If Joe Driver, an employee of Acme Trucking, Inc., runs a red light and causes and accident, both Joe and the corporation will be liable, even if Joe had no ownership interest in the corporation. In your case, as a tandem master, both you as the natural person who made the error, and the corporation that employed you would have liability. Holding assets in a corporation won't necessarily work either. Remember, your stock in the corporation would be an asset subject to seizure and sale to satisfy a judgment. Suppose you own all the stock in the corporation that owns your house, and you pay rent to the corporation. If the stock is sold to satisfy a judgment, the new owners of the stock would have control of the corporation, and therefore, your house. The corporation could sell the house, keep the proceeds, and evict you. On the other hand, if you owned the house in your name, you could probably assert a homestead exemption that would save you from living in a tent on the DZ. Most of the asset protection strategies that really work involve having the assets held by a legal entity over which you have minimal control. The good news is that the asset would be proctected. The bad news is that whoever DOES have the majority interest of control of the legal entity could turn against you. You have to make the determination as to whether the benefit outweighs this risk. Bottom line, if you have enough assets to worry about, you should pay what it's worth to find a specialist in this area of law. Want a good recommendation? Call your bank's workout department, and ask them which attorney in town they hate most! Blue Skies! Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 7. Hey everyone- Remember -- You ARE allowed to tip your pick up truck driver. We used to have a tip box for Bad Spot Bill on the fence, until someone stole it. Let Tim know you appreciate him. He's one of the best reason's to jump at Perris. Blue Skies! Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  8. Barb- Glad no bad results. Rather than saying anything bad about anyone, let me say something good. Of all the DZ's at which I've jumped, Perris has the best staff to deal with "Out" landings. "Bad Spot" Bill, RIP, set the standard that's hard to beat. The tradition continues. I had a cutaway about a month and a half ago, landed with my main on the other side of the canal. Before I could daisy chain the lines on my reserve, Tim had the DZ pickup parked on the road at the edge of the field. It's the rare occasion when he misses someone landing out. I guess the most direct question to ask is "which staff member is responsible for looking for 'out' landings." If the DZ actually points someone out, watch to see how the responsibility is carried out. See you soon! Harry Leicher "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 9. OK- here's the deal -- Privately owned, public use. Best Bet is to make a phone call to manifest (909) 657-3904 before you take off just to make sure nothing special is happening, where they want transient aircraft to park, etc If you check on the Terminal Area Chart, you'll see that 122.775 is used for advisories. For "flight following" try Socal Approach 134.0. I usually get down to pattern altitude a couple of miles to the west and hold until in radio contact with either manifest or the jump planes. Downwind leg could be flown over the Trolley Museum, so stay at least a mile west of there until you're sure what you're doing. Whatever you do -- don't fly within a 1/2 mile west of the runway to a couple of miles east! In calm winds, land with left traffic for 33, depart on runway 15. Plan on minimum time on the runway!!! Have fun! Blue Skies! Harry Leicher "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  10. In the "Old" days (the 60's) with the gear we had (surplus containers with Cheapos and 7 T-U's and flat circular mains) we used to say that the instant you left the plane, you were dead UNLESS YOU DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Some of us are still alive because WE DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT. With the gear that's available today (docile, reliable, square mains, AAD's, square reserves, GPS for spotting, etc.) you should be alive UNLESS YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. When I read of jumpers doing themselves in with low turns on high performance canopies, it just reminds me that jumpers are people who tend to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Let's be careful out there. Blue Skies! Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  11. MOst of us jumpers would be surprised at how little most pilots know about skydiving operations. I've given a number of FAA seminars to pilots about what goes on over a DZ and most don't have a clue. What was most disapointing was the poor turnout at some of the meetings. What impressed the pilots who did show up most were the NTSB reports showing that if the plane that hits a skydiver is smaller than a twin engine turboprop, the best the pilot can hope for is a tie. 12. Now wearing it 24/7 Instead of Rings, Janna & I exchanged matching closing pin necklaces for our marriage vows after our 20 way into the Lang Creek Brewery as part of the annual Lost Prairie Boogie. 13. Why not get married AT Lost Prairie? That's what Janna & I are planning to do! Blue Skies! Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  14. Rob- I wish the temps had to be over 90F to start them. It never got up to 80F yesterday at Perris but someone had to cut away on the grass when his canopy got in one. Yes, they're more common, and more powerful, when it's hot, but they can get going in lower temps. "Better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground!" Blue Skies! Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  15. To quote from the FAA's "Aviation Weather"... "Dust devils occuir under sunny skiues over sandy or dusty, dry surfaces...thermals are strong and turbulent..." Perris seems to famous for them during the summer, when all the wind socks and tetrahedron are pointing straight out in different direction. Once they start, they can move across the DZ, even the grass. Only problem is when they're over the grass, there's no dust for them to pick up so you can't see them I actually prefer going for the plowed dirt because 1) there's dust so you CAN see them, and 2) the plowed dirt is softer than the grass just in case your canopy does collpase. There have been at least two fatalities in Southern California in the last 15 years from these devils. Maybe best to head for the bar once they start! Blue Skies!
