    V-2?

I see this thread is not very active... is everybody quietly ordering their V-2's hoping to secure their slot in the production queue and get the suit sooner??? I know I do. Tsssss... let's keep quiet. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  2. Do vents "amplify" the inputs from bad body position or any other initial asymmetry, since their intake depends on surrounding line tension? Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  3. A clean experiment would be like this: One jumper makes two static line jumps with a vented and a non-vented canopy of the same make and size (e.g. Flik 266 vents/no vents). Static line will set the time to line stretch precisely equal in both jumps. We can shoot video both from above and below to study the pressurization. That would be a cool little research project for the Memorial Day in TF. I'll buy beer for the jumper and the owner of the second canopy and film the jumps. I'll be in TF from Thursday to Monday. Anyone?
  4. I closed my eyes and pictured an eagle in flight and a solo sitflyer colliding at 4000'. 10lb eagle going up the ass at 160mph... Glad you're OK! Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  5. Nice try. This 350ft high thingy is a complete B.A.S.E. in one! Here we go: - if you jump from the inside, it's a "B", because it just looks like one - if you jump from the elevator tower, it's an "A", because it just looks like one - if you jump from the middle of the arch, it's an "S", because it just looks like one - if you jump from the middle of the side wall, it's an "E", because... well, because the wind blows over it Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  6. Here's another food for thought for object classification dogs. Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  7. Yes, but the speed of inflation directly affects the speed of bottom skin expansion. What makes the canopy expand to full wingspan is pressurization, not the line tension itself, because the span of the wing is shaped in such a way that the lines are almost perpendicular to it, so there's no component of tension force that would cause the canopy to expand (and inside pressure and lift resist the small component of this force that wants to collapse the "accordion"). If you completely close the nose and bottom skin inlets, the ram-air parachute won't assume it's square form. It will flutter much like Maggot's Mary Poppins till impact. One-skin parachutes (rounds, Pterodactyl) keep their shape by trapping the air dynamically inside their concave shape. 8. With inlets, canopy is pressurized faster and starts decelerating you earlier. However, for slider down jumps the difference in pressurization time between vents and no vents is small (~0.1s, even less?). This small difference in time makes a small difference in height for low jumps: if you go-n-throw, for example, your speed at line stretch is ~50ft/s, so 0.1s difference in time makes only 5ft difference in opening height. 9. Does anybody know how to disable barometric altimeter on ETrex Vista C? Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  10. Michael, I think the biggest hurdle will be the noisyness of altitude data from barometric GPS. See, for example, this. Vista C, mounted on the helmet, head was not moving much, yet vertical speed data fluctuates as much as 100% (e.g. from 75mph to 38mph) in 1-sec intervals. The beeper will go nuts. How do you plan to fight this problem? Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  11. Bah, I made the same error, which resulted in noisy horizontal speed data. Now horizontal speed is smooth. Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  12. Kris, An interesting analysis and a drastic example that GPS data is useless until you take wind into account ("average L/D while flying upwind is 1.059 and 2.19 while flying downwind but the corrected L/Ds are much closer (1.67 and 1.64)"). A couple of notes: 1. I see a problem with your calculation: when correcting for the wind, you only correct for the component of the wind parallel to flight path (column X = column S + column Q, or Airspeed = Groundspeed + Windspeed * Cos(Angle)). The other component (Windspeed * Sin(Angle)) should also be taken into account. It's a vector sum: Airspeed = Groundspeed - Windspeed. However, since in your case the wind-to-flight angle is close to either 0 or 180, the error is small. 2. Altitude data is very noisy. Barometric GPS was not designed for freefall. I jumped from balloon with Vista C mounted on a side of the helmet and it appears from data that I jumped up 100ft in the first two seconds. Perhaps, combining horizontal data from GPS with vertical data from ProTrack will give a smoother profile. I'm also thinking about enclosing GPS in some kind of foam case so that the dynamic pressure on different sides is averaged. 13. Meanwhile, Maggot put on his "Jeb's double" mask, and as security was partying celebrating their success, went on Load #2 and flicked ESB. Here's his picture after the jump. 14. FWIW, mine are labeled 10UK/44.5EUR, I'm 11US, they fit great. dmcoco84, if you're going to Memorial Day boogie in TF, you may want to ask Jimmy&Marta to bring Hanwags. 15. No, it was a freefall from the bridge. 0.6s to impact. At impact I remembered the old truth that it's better to climb down the object wishing you jumped it than to jump wishing you climbed it down. 16. Congratulations, brother ninja! By the way, Discovery Channel is now looking for a host for their new show, "Retarded Ninjas", send in your resume today! We can do a wingsuit rodeo from this A and attach the tape to your application. 17. Thanks for PM, Bill. I deleted the post. Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  18. Does Crispi fix ankle well in terms of latteral movement? Hanwags are very good cushioning vertical impact, but ankle is not constrained well latterally (sprained my ankle recently jumping from 6ft on uneven ground, Hanwags were pretty much useless). 19. May I add another question: when hiking in National Park for extracurricular activities, do you use your stashbag or a less suspicious backpack? Any recommendations on compact backpacks? Are NPS rangers trained to recognize stashbags and Hanwags? Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  20. Yo! Honestly I don't give a fuck, but what does "HIDGAF" mean anyway??? I'm a confused retarded ninja. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  21. Nevermind, found the answers here: Direct Control Indirect Control Hail to the heroes who put their time to share the information! (Jason Cooper in this case.) Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  22. I'm confused. Is "direct slider control" a cryptic term for "slider up"? And indirect slider control = stowing a bite of slider mesh to the line? Is "direct control of Primary Stow" simply using primary stow? Then what is indirect control of primary stow? 23. What is appropriate pack job on a Vented BASE canopy? Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  24. Interesting. I wondered, too, if packjob can pop out of center cell asymetrically when you wrap with it the sharp and rigid "snag" corners of the 1st fold. Do you pre-tension the bridle attachment point when packing? Maggot, pins are great for nanoreefing. Just be careful, don't share them with friends, they may have AIDS! AIDS is everywhere!
