  1. Yo! Since there are different views on how exposure of the nose (and no, I'm not talking about Jaap's nose exposed to the cold of Canadian winter night ) affects the onheading performance, it would be interesting to know what people think. - The MORE nose is exposed (i.e. wrapped around the whole pack job), the better onheading performance or - The LESS nose is exposed (i.e. tucked in), the better onheading performance or - Don't see any difference Please post your reasoning and packing techniques, too! Thanks
  2. Also, 7/20 is World Jump Day. Everybody should BASE jump precisely at 11:39:13 GMT to shift our planet to new orbit and stop global warming. Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  3. This was a TOTALLY AWESOME event. When 40 birds gather in one awesome place, a shitload of fun is guaranteed. Brian, you pretty much summed it up. BTW, I'm still deaf from hearing your screams in freefall. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  4. Felonie, it was nice meeting you yesterday! You are a beautiful additon to Big Apple crew.

It was a planned riser drill. DBS is fine. You'll see me flying backwards in TF more often than flying forward. Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  6. Maggot, while you were working hard with the student, you missed the fun we had at the Ranch today. They built a giant penis formation in the sky for Howard Stern show. They all looked like Howard in black curly wigs and sunglasses. The flying penis will be aired on April 7th. I can't wait to see you starring at Howard Stern show when you do a Naked Marry Poppins from his building and fly into his studio filled with retards and prostitutes. Here's what I'm trying to say. 150 people making 500 jumps a day off of 300-400ft cliffs... there is almost a certainty that there will be an accident. Serious accident. If after 100 jumps someone got hurt and jumping shut down, we don't know what kind of accident could have happened after say 400 jumps if there was no accident before. Somebody could have died that day. It could be someone with 1000 jumps going hand-held flat-n-stable from overhung cliff and having out of the blue 180 with 10 linetwists. One can be fully qualified and follow the rules and still go in. We never know. A jump not made is certainly not a killer. I fully support Jimmy & Marta's decision to cancel next Thanksgiving boogie, because with huge number of jumps made from low cliffs, it's bound to have serious accidents. Now Maggot, continue to push buttons, it's too funny. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio

  9. Yo! Microsoft launched an awesome tool for BASE jumpers. Do you see Maggot ready to re-TARD in this bird's eye view of New York City? You can even take a virtual cab to your exit point.

    rooms in TF

In Motel 6, you can pack inside the room (just the container will be outside). There's also grassy area by the pool where several people can pack. The rates are about $38 (35 via motel6.com). Maggot, I'll give you my copy so it can do wonders to your sex life. When I get it (I mean, the magazine, not the sex life!) It's suspiciously late -- that attractive 17y.o. postgirl who brings mail to me must be looking at your hot haircut right now!!! I guess, you'll get a new deathcamper anytime soon. If you take her to make a re-tard TARD-over from one of those buildings on 42nd Street, who'll deliver my Skydiving Magazine, though? PS. I think we who stopped jumping at Mineral Bottom after the strike should all be grateful to our God Maggot, the BASE Sex Symbol. Because we never know. We never know if something much worse wouldn't happen that day. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  12. Are you talking about jumping with two parachutes or one? If there's a lift, count me in. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  13. Yo! If you visit Tracking Derby website, you'll see all kinds of nonsense, e.g. glide ratio of 1.36 average over 45 second period in freefly suit. You know, a bag of potatoes has twice as high glide ratio in 40mph winds as in 20mph winds. It's not only the "pilot", it's the wind, too! If you want to know your real glide ratio, you can jump a balloon with GPS and sample the winds on your way to altitude as described here. 14. I wonder if this idea can be used in ground launching to go up the hill flying a big canopy attached backwards. Then go down on a small fast canopy. Repeat. It's like perpetum mobile! Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  15. Maggot, if you look at the top of the canopy in this picture, you can see the face of Satan! That explains your offheading openings. BTW, is that somebody's white thong on your back? Or it's your goggles? Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  16. Well, I think the guy who did 11 seconds at Bridge Day 2005 and flew past the LZ can do just that. I don't remember his name... do you? If someone dares to backfly through this thing with a "guide", the visuals would be just unearthly. The talus seems to be friendly, >2000ft at ~45 degrees? Google Earth seems to have old and low resolution data on this region, but if this road (see pics) is under the cave, then there's plenty of space to land. 17. What if there's no wind? Why sweat and try to fit everything in four letters? Cable jump is a cable jump, it's that simple. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  18. Exactly. Both chances are small, but who knows what exactly they are. If, for example, the chance of bridle wrapping around PC is 0.05% and the chance of bridle hang-up in the pocket is 0.5% (both - hypothetical figures), then this bridle pocket is nothing but safety hazzard. Is it possible to measure these figures? I doubt any manufacturer would do thousands of test PC throws in wind tunnel just to determine these probabilities. Unfortunately, some things are impossible to predict until The List claims another test jumper... If you ask me, anything that keeps bridle on the container when you throw, instead of providing a clean PC-to-pin path, looks scary. I noticed in Keen n' Able in the opening scene (Miles' 1000th jump) that he didn't tuck the bridle under the side flap. Asked Shane why and he said that's to decrease the chance of bridle hang-up on the bottom of container in case of gainer overrotation. Clean path = good, all kinds of contraptions between PC and pin = bad. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
  19. Why isn't this pocket installed on PC's end of the bridle, much like a tail pocket on the canopy? With existing setup, I can see the potential for PC hesitation in small delay jumps if the bridle snags around the bottom corner of the container, turning this pocket into additional force distribution point (like 3-ring): corner - one, pocket - two, bridle tucked under the flap - three, and pin - four. Besides causing hesitation, this off-center force can quickly rotate the jumper towards the object, if he is in head high position during deployment. I wonder if a safer solution would be to simply install small pieces of velcro on the bridle at regular intervals. S-fold the bridle, mating the velcros, and put inside the mushroom. 22. Awesome idea, Maggot! Let's make our own Event. No competition, no rules, no judges, no charities. Just pure fun. Life without any limits! Let's call it "Maggot's Independence Day"... or maybe "Maggot's BASE Jihad". Every July 4th weekend. 23. Because it takes time to accelerate 230lbs meatmissile to 120mph horizontally. The jump was from 5.2K to 2.5K, in Phantom. But you make a good point: when you're moving with acceleration, L/D (ratio of lift to drag) is NOT equal to relative-to-horizon glide ratio (ratio of horizontal displacement to vertical), since the vector sum of L and D in this case is not equal to and not directly opposite to the force of gravity. 24. Yo! Winds aloft significantly affect glide ratio. Even a 20mph wind can throw off the glide ratio by as much as 0.4-0.5, depending on direction of your flight. This makes GPS data pretty much useless. Wouldn't it be great if we could accurately measure winds aloft and adjust flight data accordingly to obtain the true L/D? Maybe launch a weather balloon? Well, how about riding in a perfectly good weather balloon and then jumping from it? Balloon is simply a giant wind indicator. Start your GPS tracking when you lift off to accurately measure the wind speed/direction at all altitudes of your flight. I came to this idea just recently when looking at a GPS track of one of the balloon jumps at Eloy where I accidentally turned GPS on long before the jump. Attached is data from this jump with wind correction. Yuri Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
