  1. The new info is posted at www.skydivebelize.com
  2. There is a group of west coast jumpers that flock, they fly out to the reef and back, great photos!
  3. I require a 500 jump minimum, however some jumpers with less experience, and at least a "B" (water training) have attended with an OK from their DZO or S&TA. The landing area in Belize is on a beach surrounded by 2 story condo units to the North and South and a couple of 3 story units and a power line to the West. We have very strict landing patterns established, North or South only. Every jump is over the ocean. There is a lagoon 20 yards to the west that has very large crocodiles living in it. The landing area is 350 yards long by 100 yards wide. The wind is usually 5-15 knots from the Northeast. Landing "out" requires good canopy skills. The ocean is the best out, as it is only 3-4ft. deep about 100 yards off shore. I hope this clears up why there are minimum qualifications required. If you would like to attend, send a pm or e-mail. I will be posting an official update soon.
  4. I will be posting a "Boogie in Belize IV" update soon. The website is currently being updated. The hurricane did minor damage to Ambergris Caye, where the DZ is located. Rich Grimm Tsunami Skydivers Inc. www.skydivebelize.com

  8. What a horrid looking group of people at Mooses!
  9. Does anyone out there have contact info for "Rogie". He is the British jumper that was hurt on a demo about 9 or 10 years ago. Some of his old US pals want to say hello. I haven't seen him since the World meet in Oz,'99.
  10. Relax...I know some jumpers that should repeat levels 4,5,6,7,8 and do 20 Skydive U. jumps...and they have hundreds if not thousands of jumps already!
  11. Just because the takeoff airport you set your altimiter to says you are at 1,500AGL etc. doesn't mean that is how much altitude you really have. In the midwest it may not vary much over the cornfields, but many DZ's have their jump planes flying over much higher terrain on the way to altitude. Pay attention on the climb to your proximity to the hills. A 2,000ft emergency exit at some DZ's may actually be much less.
  12. I had the pleasure of touring Quest Aircraft in Sandpoint on Friday. I was there with Mike and Linda Groarke, longtime jumpers and pilots from Lost Prairie and David Steinke, an A & P from the Prairie now wrenching on jets in Nebraska. Mr. Lynn Thomas, the Kodiak sales manager lead the tour. We kicked the tires, looked under the hood and hung out as a camera floater. We took lots of photos and asked a lot of questions. As of now there are only two Kodiaks flying. We looked at #'s 3, 4 and 5 under construction. We discussed many aspects of the Kodiak as a jump ship. Fuel burn, CG limits, jumper capacity, maintenance, etc. We also discussed test jumping it in different interior configurations and flight conditions. The Kodiak is one hell of an impressive airplane. "Beefy" would be a good word to describe it. A lot of thought has gone into this product from ease of flying to ease of maintenance. Here are some facts and figures... $1.3 million is for a skydive model, no seats. The price will go up soon. They are back ordered 3 years. The Garmin 1000 is standard equipment. The interior is nice and large, I think 12 comfy. The rear camera step they are discussing needs to be tested. It seems close to the tail. Skydiving wasn't even in their plans, this was a bush plane, missionary flight, Cessna 206 replacement idea. they have some work to do before a jump model is completed. Roll up door, handles, steps, door deflector, etc. need to be refined. I was very impressed with the plane and Mr. Thomas was a gracious host. And yes, my rig was in the car and NO was the answer! It never hurts to ask. I sure look forward to jumping one. If you are in Sandpoint ,ID I recommend a visit to the factory.
  13. Just a reminder...nightly Texas Hold 'em in the Lounge! It seems to me we all owe major Dad Phil Perry a beating for hitting quad 4's and winning the BIG bucks last year!!!!
  14. Someone at Skydive Arizona needs to get Craig Girard on here to tell his story. He was on a flight with Mike Scott coming from a competition when they got into a discussion with a fellow passenger. This French guy starts to tell Craig he is a world champion skydiver and stuntman, owns a special one of a kind parachute too! Craig doesn't tell the guy who they are or that they are coming from a skydiving event...he just eggs the dude on and acts amazed at his stories. I guess it was a hell of an entertaining flight. Mike Scott wanted to call BS on the guy but Craig wouldn't let him. I think the guy was sweet on both of them! If you guys run into him at the DZ have him tell the story, it's a classic!
