  1. Never had a problem like that. I leave my canopy unpacked in a kit bag. I repack the evening before I jump. My main is rarely packed for more than a day or two.
  2. Possibly interested. PM me with details. Thanks!
  3. Matthew, I have never jumped an MC-1D. I have taken an MC-1C to terminal twice and I will never do it again. I was sore literally for 3 days. A -1C opens HARD, even on a static line jump compared to a T-10, a -1B or a SET-10. I say again, at terminal, a -1C is dangerous. I've edited this to thank you for the info about Ted Strong. I'll see if I can contact him.
  4. I thought about a tandem container, but I would like to keep the rig as light/small as possible. Tandem rigs are the same size as the MC-4. This will be a permanent set-up. I jump rounds all the time, several per month. A SET-10 is much friendlier to a free-faller. An MC-1C is a REAL snot-knocker at terminal - dangerously so. Sleeves are easier to pack but are bulkier. I don't think there is a bag or POD out there to hold a canopy that size.
  5. I am looking for a modern harness & container (with the exception of the MT-1XX and MC-4 types) that will hold a sleeve-deployed SET-10 canopy. Any ideas/suggestions? Please leave the discussion of my sanity for another time - I seriously need to know this. Thank you!
  6. No, it is NOT funny in the least. If anything would have happened to either one of you (fatality), a good District Attorney could construe that as Manslaughter.
  7. I got 8 jumps last weekend - but then again, I live 1/2 hour from DeLand.
  8. Perception is reality. If a belly-band will make you feel safer and more secure in your harness, go for it. Don't worry about what other people think / say. For what it's worth, I agree with you.
  9. Sell the "feet" altimeter and buy a "meter" alti. For what it will cost for the shipping, new faceplate and recalibration, I'll bet you can almost pay for the new altimeter.
  10. Terry, That's a great publication. I was able to save it to my Apacer HandyDrive with no problems...took awhile, though. At 344 pages, I won't be printing it anytime soon. Thanks for all your work in locating it and getting it out to us!
  11. Sparky, You are a bad, bad man! LOL Good one!
  12. Any dive shop will sell you five pound hip weights which are slightly curved to fit onto a belt at your hips. Two pound weights are also an option. For you eco-freaks out there, you can buy vinyl covered lead weights. Much less messy than lead shot.
  13. Yeah, I have also put talcum powder into a PC as I was flaking it, which really messes up a black canopy, which took several jumps to air out at terminal. More trouble than it was worth. I was always leery of putting anything else into a canopy.
  14. Did you report this to DZ.com as a scam and also to E-bay as a heads-up?
  15. Can any of our riggers out there give me directions where to find plans and specifications for a Collins Lanyard? Or possibly purchase one? Thanks, all!
  16. Okay, I understand now....your original post did not mention that you had called him about an extra barrel...I got the impression from the ad that you thought it was a rifled barrel.
  17. I see nothing in that ad that mentions a rifled slug barrel. I see a slug barrel with rifle sights. Most slug barrels are NOT rifled.
  18. weapons systems will only require that a current 5.56mm platform be upgraded with a new upper(M16 variants) or rebarreled and a new bolt to accommodate the ammo _________________________________________________ Only require a new upper or rebarreling? Do you know how many millions of dollars that would "only" be? Don't get me wrong - I don't care for the 5,56mm - I was raised up on the M1 Garand - but no systems are going to be replaced anytime soon, especially with the war going on. I agree with standardizing all rifle/mg ammo, but remember the 5.56mm is a NATO standard round an we would have to convince our "Allies" to move to the same cartridge.
  19. I vote for Photoshop. It is very similar to another photo of a "Great White" lunging at a guy on a ladder under a UH-60 helo, supposedly taken in San Francisco Bay. That was obviously a fake.
  20. Thanks for the reply, Mark. My old handi is just about kaput, so I thought I would upgrade into the 21st century, and while I was at, I'd try 6M. I know I won't get the DX that I would from a base station, but I can get a feel for 6. 73 Larry N2RXD
  21. The 6.8 Remington may have enough of a head start in the 5.56 replacement race the Grendl may not be able to catch up.
  22. I am looking to upgrade to a new hand-held radio. I am considering either the ICOM IC-T90A tri-bander or the Yaesu VX-7R. If anyone out there has any experience with either handi, please give me your opinions, pro or con. Or can suggest a better tri-band radio - I don't need ALL the bells & whistles! Thank you!
  23. It is in the Epidemiologist's / health care industry best interest to keep up all the yapping about bird flu since there are large sums of money involved. No bird flu - no money, right? For the same reason, there will never be a cure for cancer - too much money (billions) involved in research grants. Remember some years ago, it was all the rage about Swine Flu. That one never came to pass, either. Now it turns out the CDC says that "ordinary" annual flu shots are not doing much good protecting us against the normal variety of flu's out there.
