  1. That's my first choice. They are cheap and put up with a lot of abuse from student's that I wouldn't want to put my altitrack through. Blue Skies
  2. There is no simulator function that I am aware of. There is however a playback function letting you replay any jump in your logbook. If you have a jump in your logbook that is similar to the profile of the students jump then you can replay that jump and use it as a real time practice altimeter. page 49\50 in the manual explains how to do this. I have used it this way before. It's not the most convenient way to do it but it is better than nothing. If you do find a simulator mode please be sure and post for the rest of us. Blue Skies
  3. All units manufactured before 2015 are affected. Give M2 Distribution Inc. a call and they will send you the cutters you need. I talked to them this morning about 3 units and they were very helpful. M2 Distribution, Inc 1200 Flightline Blvd, Suite 5A DeLand FL 32724 USA Tel: +1 (386) 279-7542 [email protected] www.m2-usa.com In my log books are some M2's that were manufactured in early 2015. Is Mars saying that 2014 cutters were only installed in 2014 AADs? That would be a good question to ask them when you call. The impression that I got was 2015 units had 2015 cutters but I didn't ask that specifically because none of the ones I'm dealing with fell into that category. Every time I have dealt with them they have been very helpful and great to deal with. Blue Skies

  5. Where does that regulation specify rounds? Technically even if you only pack ram air reserves you are required to have access to a 40 foot table. Blue Skies
  6. The Mirage RTS reserve packs just like a G3 and has that same super strong pilot chute spring. The trap system is IMO the easiest MARD to pack that I have seen (all of the MARD's on the market should be no problem for a competent rigger to pack). I personally think that whatever brand of student gear is used that it should be setup like a sport rig as much as possible so they don't learn one thing as a student and then have to learn something different when they get their own gear. 7. Hi Jeremy, what is your position on the requirement for a 3rd class FAA medical for tandem instructors? Specifically the common belief that it is used by USPA to disqualify tandem instructors with multiple DUI's. You know me but for those who don't I'm S&TA at Skydive Kansas. In 2010 I made a huge error in judgement and got a DUI. I went without an FAA medical and by default a tandem instructor rating until I finished jumping through the FAA's hoops and got my medical back. I then retook the TI course again completing all of the ground work and making a few jumps with an examiner. I had around 900 tandems at the time. I'm personally for the requirement. If someone makes a mistake like I did I don't think jumping through the FAA's hoops and getting some additional training on tandems is to much to ask. After all our negative actions should have negative consequences. If someone has enough DUI's that they can't get a medical at all then they probably have a problem and shouldn't be responsible for tandem student's lives. This is just my opinion. Gary Peek it might be helpful to people trying to decide who to vote for if you weighed in on these issues also. Blue Skies, Bill Hubbell
  8. That's a great question. The FAR only mentions 3 miles but it is only required once you are under a good canopy. Maybe they just didn't think that anyone would be open above 10,000 ft. Sec. 105.19 Parachute operations between sunset and sunrise (a) No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a person to conduct a parachute operation from an aircraft between sunset and sunrise, unless the person or object descending from the aircraft displays a light that is visible for at least 3 statute miles. (b) The light required by paragraph (a) of this section must be displayed from the time that the person or object is under a properly functioning open parachute until that person or object reaches the surface. 9. Actually the requirement is for a light that is visible for 3 miles but there is nothing that says it has to be a strobe. I agree though that if the strobe is rigged correctly that it won't blind you. Blue Skies
  10. How about demonstrate the position to them on the ground and then have them practice on the ground and up high under canopy prior to landing? Blue Skies
  11. I just followed the instructions and didn't have any problems. Did you unzip the files that you downloaded, if not the driver install won't work. Blue Skies
  12. http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_Rating_Renewal.pdf You can not verify your own ratings for renewal. One of the requirements (governance manual 1-4) for being an S&TA is to be a D licence holder. Blue Skies
  13. http://www.cypres-usa.com/usedcypres.asp Sorry Dave beat me to it. Blue Skies
  14. that harness looks perfectly fine, since the leg strapps were moved lower on the thigh to facilitate a seated position under canopy. Much more comfortable then hanging vertical, and easier for most to raise their legs for landing. Also known as the "sit back drill" taught by the UPT I/E's since the very beginning of uRWS Tandem Jumps, and still shown on their, UPT's, web page today. Matt Does that include the chest strap over the shoulder and around the neck? Blue Skies
  15. I used checkride.com and found it very helpful. They update the software often which is a plus. Blue Skies
  16. It's a modified tandem rig with all three canopies on your back. The emergency handles for the first main are an outboard pull just like the tandem rigs. The handles for the second main are just like a sport rig. And yes Martin it was fun. Blue Skies
  17. Wasn't it called a hesitator loop back then? Blue Skies
  18. Thank you for your post Bill but what is your take on the main flap being a potential snag point? Blue Skies
  19. QuoteOnly as hard as ordering a die from Para-gear. Quote When I got my ticket I ordered my seal press dies from Para-gear but I didn't like how they looked so I made my own. I work at a machine shop and it probably took me longer to order them than it took to make them. Blue Skies
  20. *** Your granny can make the canopy out of SanranWrap if she wants but you must be a rigger to repair it. How many ways can you say DUMB?*** But as the manufacturer granny can make any repairs needed. Blue Skies
  21. You are so right, rule number one DON't HURT THE INNOCENTS!!! Blue Skies
