  1. That is a great idea as long as you do it with a rigger or a mentor that you trust to double check your work. Intentionally causing problem could set you up for real problems if you don't make sure you fix them before you jump. There is no substitute for looking at the real thing as long as you know what you are looking at. Straitening out a canopy that is not right or has been cut away can be a great teacher but it's always a good idea to get a second set of eyes on the canopy to make sure it's right. Blue Skies
  2. Apparently the laws of physics and aerodynamics don't work where you live. 1 - you're wrong on that statement - don't fly under a tandem 2 - think about premature deployment under someone that has very restricted mobility - don't fly under a tandem 3 - don't fly under a tandem 4 - something about not flying under a tandem What he said, the life you save might be mine or my students or both, probably both. 3. I was very disappointed to see the impeachment proceeding of Jan Meyer on the agenda. Jan Meyer has given so very much to this sport that we love and continues to be an asset to all skydivers. We need more people like Jan on the board. Jan Meyer was elected by the membership and if there are issues they should be made public to the membership and let the people that voted for or against her to make the decision whether to remove her from the board or not. When voting in elections I prefer to vote FOR the candidate that I like but if Jan is removed from the board you can be sure that I will vote AGAINST the people that voted to remove her. I’m quite sure many other skydivers feel the same way. USPA is supposed to be an organization by, for, and about skydivers, why is it then that the individual skydiver is kept in the dark on so many issues? I find it appalling that not even the BOD can get access to the settlement of the 1-800 Skyride lawsuit, I’m not sure what the reasoning behind that decision is but to the individual skydiver it appears to be an attempt to protect the guilty. 4. Yes I have and I know of at least one other person that has. If you didn't get something that was promised to you give Art a call and I'm sure he will make it right. Blue Skies
  5. On the Strong system like in the pic the student and instructor drogue release handles are both on the right side. Doesn't that particular gesture allow the student to grab you're right arm preventing main deployment and only leaving you with deploying the reserve with the drogue deployed? The picture might be reversed because it looks like the reserve handle is on the right side. If the picture is reversed do you really want your student to be able to grab your last chance? Not criticizing just asking, I am very new to tandems with only seven hundred in my log book. Please people with more experience than me way in, is this a good idea or a bad idea? I know what I believe now please give me your opinion. Isn’t this the students video, shouldn’t he or she be the star? Blue Skies
  6. Hi Brandon, I don't see jumping with SCI tandems as scary, it's something that I'm actually looking forward to doing in my skydiving career. I do agree with Martin though that it is not a good idea to experiment with our lives. I would not make a wingsuit jump for instance without getting the proper equipment and training, it would just not be smart. Doing an SCI tandem without the proper equipment and training would be unwise as well. Unfortunately I don't have the training or equipment to make this kind of jump yet. Fortunately there are tandem instructors out there that do have the necessary experience, equipment and training to jump with you. Three come to mind right off the top of my head, Bram Clement, Jay Stokes, Bob Feisthammel. PM me if you would like contact info for any of these people. We all certainly want you to be able to jump, just in the safest environment possible. Blue Skies
  7. If you feel lousy and congested on the ground and get to altitude and then feel great then DON'T JUMP. The plane ride down will be painful but not nearly as painful as the jump. Blue Skies
  8. The meek shall inherit the earth...but who will want this burnt out dustbowl when us agressive people get done with it? I once had a girlfriend that after hearing a discussion about ground speed on jumprun asked "you mean they don't just pull over and park before letting you out" and yes she was blonde. Blue Skies
  9. I have about 300 jumps on a Sabre 1 190 and have never had a hard opening. A friend of mine put 300 jumps on a Sabre 2 190 and had never had a hard opening. Then he had an opening so hard that it broke his back, quess what, he had closed end cells on that jump. He sent the canopy to PD and they relined it and inspected it and not only said it was airworthy but said it was in exellent condition. I jumped it on a hop and pop and it snivelled so much that I thought I was going to have to chop, the next jump I took it to terminal and it opened so hard that it cracked a rib, guess what, I had closed end cells. He sent it back to PD and they replaced it with a new custom Spectre at no charge. PD is a great company that puts out great products. Just keep in mind that every canopy is an individual, even if it is the same size and model that it has it's own personality. ANY canopy from ANY manufacturer can hurt you at ANY time. Sabre 1 canopies opened brisk because that was what was expected at the time they were designed. Sabre 2 canopies slowed the opening and fly great (the one that broke my rib flew and flared great). I have 1300 jumps and am a tandem instructor, I have been in the sport for 20 years and have packed many parachutes, when I packed the Sabre 2 I knew the history and packed it with that in mind. As the label says any parachute that is manufactured, packed, maintained, and used properly can and will fail. Blue Skies
  10. Art Sherry at the Skydive Store is awesome. Blue Skies
  11. A group from our drop zone goes to the WFFC every year. Some of us like me go to jump a lot and party a little, some go to party allot and jump a little. None of us are ever disappointed . The facilities are always first rate, the free load organizing is awesome. More than anything else it is a reunion where you can see people that you only get to see once a year, and an opportunity to meet and jump with people you would never meet otherwise. I hope that Art has cleared up the vendor issue for those that want to demo gear. I have dealt with Art on a few occasions and he has always been awesome. If Art says that you can demo canopies and containers at the WFFC there will be plenty of gear to demo. I have never seen a lack of aircraft to jump, gear to demo, or knowledgeable people to learn from. No one from our group has ever left the convention disappointed, even the wuffos leave glad that they came. If you are sitting on the fence wondering if you should go, go you won't regret it. 12. Was told in a FJC years ago to visualize the windsock as a part of my body. When you land you want the windsock to be a tail, if it is a dick you are screwed. One gal in the course was obviously offended, the instructor noticed and said I'm sorry that I offended you but on the up side I'll bet you never land downwind. Blue Skies
  13. look at others around the D.Z, if the jump numbers on the ground exceed the jump numbers on the load you might want to ask yourself why. Blue Skies
  14. This is my first post here. I am usualy a lurker here. I not so recently ordered a harness and container through the SkydiveStore, it was a Vector 3. Do to a couple of mistakes I made on the order form the rig had to be fixed a couple of times. Rosi at Relative Workshop was very helpful, and Art Sherry at the Skydive Store has bent over backwards to help me. The mistakes that were made were mine, both Art Sherry and the Relative Workshop have bent over backward to make sure I will get the rig that I want. I can't express enough how greatfull I am to all the people that have been involved in this. I chose to order through the Skydive Store becouse they (Art Sherry) was the only gear dealer that actually seamed to want my buisiness. Bill Booth and his staff are awsome. The Skydive Store is the best, Art will bend over backwards for you. I am overwhelmed by the support I have recieved along the way, I made several mistakes on the order form and I will still end up with the rig I orderd. Call Art Sherry at the Skydive Store and he will hook you up. Blue Skies
