  1. i can. it amounts to the same thing as trying to eliminate the problem of people dying from ant bites by dumping poison over the whole countryside and piece of grass, when there are about 30 deaths from ant bites annually. it said there were 86 cases of voter fraud in one election, or .00004%. and skip to the middle of the video, it gets really good halfway through. a driver's license or valid state id should be enough, it doesn't mention why she didn't have a state id, though. i sent this to one of my die-hard tea party friends on facebook; it was enough to get a phone call and not a lengthy response if that tells you anything. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  2. man, mine had the thinking position since he was about 18 months. the front leaning rest. and when i got done, he would not stand up until i said "recover". and when he messed up bad, instead of spanking we instituted grass drills. my ex used to crack up when i would have him out there, i had my bdu pants on and a t shirt and boots, with the sf shades. she drew the line when i messed up and actually said, "get your butt out of the air, you're not begging for quarters!" whoops... _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  3. that was a cool story, what a piece of detective work. i like the idea of the exception to the law. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  4. don't worry, i don't blame you. and i am very glad that you actually believe this, if you do, so that you are better able to sleep at night. it is not the workers that i do blame, it is those in charge. i am used to people defending the worst of them because they need the jobs or actually believe what they are told like good little worker bees. you know, i actually had one guy that told me they used biodegradeable materials! he said they had to be because they weren't marked with any placards and are dumped right onto the ground! how can you argue with that logic? edit to add: you posted the response in the wrong thread. this one has not one thing to do with radioactive anything, it is about dumping mchm in a landfill where a creek runs right beside of it into the water supply for almost 50,000 people which were unaffected by the same chemical that poisoned 300,000. and you can pull all of the msds sheets on that, i have read them all and they say unknown on nearly everything. and i just found out that they stopped putting it there, i wonder where it's going now? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  5. even before you put the parenthesis statement in, it was untrue. the corporations never get sued by anyone because they put too much money into the political coffers of those elected or appointed to protect the people. in essence, they are protecting those who need it least. while in theory your statement may be true (i say may because i highly doubt the validity of it, haven't got time to research, so i will leave it at a doubt), in practice, the free market does not exist. if it did, then we would all be using renewable energy. remove the subsidies for fossil fuels and the system falls apart, making renewables not only desirable, but competitive. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  6. in wv, the legislature almost approved a bill which would allow the unlimited storage of waste from fracking, or horizontal well drilling waste (i think it is the same thing) to be disposed of in landfills in excess of the posted limits. in other words, as much as they want. and in the case of this kind of waste, all of it is bad, there is no safety net of exposure limits. it may not stay radioactive long, but it does not get any safer with time. this is a subject i have been looking into, i am not going to post any links, however, people in this forum tend to get irate over the validity of the information when the link comes from sites they deem questionable. besides, the information is freely available. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  7. a few things wrong with such a short statement. 1. there is no such thing as a free market in this country. 2. without regulations, we get things like this happening. we may as well just slit our own throats. of course, there were regulations in place before all of this, they just weren't enforced. 3. how would free market forces possibly help anything that i am talking about here? the only thing that will save our country is radical action within the next 10 years. it may already be too late, but i am not giving up. if there is one thing i have learned since becoming an activist, it is that nothing is going to get done while people, all people, cannot see that there is a huge problem. too many people are too afraid to upset anything that might mean no more american idol (or any other form of entertainment). the only way to change anything means a lot of inconvenience for a lot of people. some of it could be mitigated by several factors, but without sweeping commitment to actually improving the situation, we may as well lie down and die now. the answers are there, but those in charge refuse to accept it. time to change those in charge, we need a brief period of martial law, followed by total rebuilding of the entire system. the alternative is a violent revolution. there may be other ways, but i highly doubt it. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  8. i don't consider anyone a monster for using legal means to make money, hell i wish i could do it. what i do take offense to is someone betting a company will fail or devalue then use money and/or influence to make that happen. this is wrong on at least three different levels. and even if the other company was not doing anything illegal, how hard would it be to use about a million of that billion invested to plant enough evidence to make it appear illegal? and to andy: exactly. at least i am back in school now pursuing my doctorate. may take about five years, but it will be worth it. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  9. no it is not right. it doesn't matter the reason behind what he is doing, if it is wrong, then it's wrong. it is wrong that al gore is getting rich off of saving the planet, all money received should go straight back to the cause, not his pocket. the ends do not justify the means. that was just something i had heard in one of those conspiracy theories, i didn't put enough stock in it to research it. we all know the government knew about it and should have put together all the evidence to at least have an idea what was going on. but that's hindsight. i can't find a link to that theory or whatever it was from last year, if i find it, i will post it. i thought i remembered some discussion in here about it, but without having any idea when, it would be very hard to find. if only it were that easy to categorize politics. i was very uninterested in it until recent events provoked me into a response. if not me, then who? i have made it my cause to rid the wv legislation of corruption. it may take a while, but it can be done. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  10. it just keeps getting better and better here. we got a bil passed into law that regulates the inspection of above ground storage tanks, it didn't get gutted too bad, it's considered a win by our side. then we have the fbi visiting the trucking company which hauled the mchm to the new storage facility. it turns out that they were doing all kinds of illegal stuff with it for years. and then to top it all off, this: http://www.wowktv.com/story/24957727/waste-water-being-removed-from-poca-facility-water-crisis-chemical-spill it turns out that in the whole area, this is the location of one of the only two municipal water companies. and the landfill is where, you ask? upstream of the creek which feeds the water supply for the area. but the landfill is lined and has state of the art leak detection systems, so we'll be all right. nothing to see here, carry on. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  11. i reread the post and stand corrected. no matter how legal it is, it is nowhere near ethical. it is nothing more than a symptom of the problems this country is facing. when politics are allowed to be influenced by money to this degree and unabashedly, then we all lose. unless you are in the top 5%, then of course you want it to continue. i am not naive enough to think that politics are ever going to be free from some type of influence from people with power. all i am saying is we need to throttle it in and take care of what is needed. and it matters not one bit where his money goes, it is simply the one time it helped anything. that's like that rumor i heard about people short selling airline stock in early sep 2001. haven't heard anything on that recently, may have been just a rumor. but anything involving economics is nothing more than a myth anyway. proof is in that financial thing they found out last year where a mistake in a spreadsheet had been found, and policies had been based on it for years, even though nobody could reproduce the results. i can't remember the details, but if you know investing, you should know what i am talking about. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  12. we had a ball python (3d wife and i) and one day, she said he may like to get in the bath tub with you. well, we had let him swim before and he loved it, so i said ok. well, the water must've been a little warm for him, because when she put him in the tub, he came at me with his head about 8 inches out of the water and his mouth open. me, though not afraid of him at the least, being in the tub and all, jumped out of the tub without touching the side and landing about three feet away. the wife said it was hilarious. wish i'd had a video camera on it. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  13. very nice explanation of stock trading, but totally irrelevant to the situation of the original post. unless you really do think they're the same thing, in which case, wow. from what i read in the article, the guy bet on the stock falling, then tried repeatedly to make the stock fall, even using government officials. now, you may think that this kind of behavior is ok, but most of the people i know would say it is not. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  14. nope, it's a personal preference from way back when i first started programming. anything i used a computer for was always in lowercase. that was all i knew until the internet came along. since then, chat rooms got all lowercase, as did any type of forum. and text messages later. email and every other type of writing gets the proper format. i even have a habit of using semi-colons properly in text messages. and i have been known to use the phrase "from time to time" occasionally when I didn't have spell check and forgot how to spell occasionally. except for "battalion"; i always spell that one wrong the first time. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  15. i would have to say, simply by his actions and words, the the pope has no desire at all to maintain the status quo. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  16. i have always been a stickler for spelling and proper grammar. i even spell things out in a text message. i sometimes use military abbreviations, but not often. the thing that really gets me hot about this these days is the huge amount of professional writing that contain errors. now, i know that i am not perfect, but i am vastly better than most of these "professionals". i suppose that in the high tech world we live in, editors have just gone by the wayside. and also, i hate when spell check tells me that a word is spelled incorrectly when i know it is correct. like advisor. it always comes up with the red line, but i know that it is correct. i hate seeing it spelled adviser. it just looks wrong. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes

  21. i read all of it. i don't disagree with it, it makes sense. especially the part about impulse suicides. of course if you have an unlocked, loaded gun in the corner it would be easier. kind of hard to change your mind after you pull the trigger. and i also can't say that i've never sat with a 12 gauge in my mouth before either. it was a depressing time in my life, and i am extremely glad i didn't sneeze. apparently i made an error in thinking earlier. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  22. i have said for years that economics doesn't make sense. and with the revelations on that formula based on a flawed spreadsheet last year and now this, it looks like i was correct. and for all those who said that i was wrong, i just wish i had access to the conversations so that i could prove that i was right. anyone with half a brain could look at some of those formulas and the assertions made and tell you they are bullshit, but because they are made by people with titles, they are accepted as true, even without being able to be reproduced independently. maybe this will help us think objectively, not just blindly accept things as facts. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  23. i'm not too familiar with the scientific method used here. don't the studies need a control group to be valid? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  24. your analogy holds water in my book. our government needs reigned in. someone needs to do something, maybe an embargo would get the point across? _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
  25. i cannot believe you are cherry picking the goddamned constitution. wait, yes i can. read the first three words: "we the people", not "we the people, except terrorists" or any other form of it. at the time of the writing, it didn't mean women or blacks, but we amended it to include them. that means that now, it means all of us. every legal citizen of the us has the same rights as every other legal citizen. period. when they are tried in a court of law with the proper jurisdiction, then they may forfeit certain rights, but not until then. _________________________________________ Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
