  1. Okies since I am a noob also I will give you the 1st two: 1) When you graduate AFF, one case to the DZyou graduate at. 2) 1st jump after you get your "A" license. Also remebr this statement "Wow that's the 1st time I have ever done that skydiving" that's also formally known as I am buying Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  2. This was an experienced jumper, not a student. Each of us is responsible for knowing our own gear. The Cypres has an excellent instruction manual, as does every rig and parachute on the market. So, in keeping with the texture of the original post by Feeblemind: 7) Know your equipment. Read and understand the manual. Thanks for the addition
  3. Well I just got done reading through the incident post on themitchyone's lack of a cypres fire due to her activating it at home. For some reason I feel compelled to share a few things my instructor and mentors have taught me (and frequently remind me of: 1) You are responsible for saving your own ass. For me this starts with a top to bottom gear check and activation of my cypress at the DZ. I am also not shy when it comes to asking for a "complete" secondary gear check from someone I trust, as wells as gear checks prior to boarding and on while the plane. 2) Never rush to get on a load, doing so can result in making errors. There will always be another load. 3) You need to push yourself to learn, just don't push to hard. This is hard to word, but being a noob I am trying to soak in as much as I can and have fun. There are certain people I trust do do new things with in the sky. 4) Pull, Pull On Time, Pull Stable 5) I am responsible for getting a landable parachute over my head!! If things go poorly follow your EP's AND NEVER GIVE UP!!! 6) In the the words of a good friend and mentor: "Don't F*cking DIE" I must say I feel pretty fortunate to have had and still have a GREAT instructor as wells as coaches and mentors. They have all taught me well and continue to do so. For those of you that are instructors, coaches and mentors, please remeber you were new once and what you teach us newbies, we will teach as coaches/mentors/instructors when our time comes. 6. Man I called the wife and she said no dice, didn't want the invasion of privacey into the house. All I could think about was a new rig and a backpack full of jump tickets Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  7. Wow and I thought I was a safety nut. When I went to a DZ for the 1st time I had absolutely zero intention of going skydiving, I just went to watch a friend. But having an inquiring mind I looked at the same items you listed with the exception of the pilots lic. Well soon as we walked in the packing area door the verbal combat started. My buddy started it and they all chimed in to try and get me to do a tandem. Well me being faily large I was not overly concerned of holding my own, plus I am fairly decent with verbal combat. Right about that time "Skykimmer" called me a pussy cause I wouldn't jump. Needless to say my ego overcame my fear. I jumped with JP from perris and then it all began. I am now have my class "A" license and a new rig with my main on order and one very empty savings account. All I can say is I am VERY glad I was "encouraged" by so many to take that 1st jump. Being safety conscious is a good thing, listen and learn then GO JUMP you will only regret if you stay on the ground. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  8. I have horrible knees but my ACL is intact. I would see a surgon and ask them. The ACL repairs can be done quickly (4-6 weeks recovery time) since they do them orthoscopically now. I know that may reduce your season, but you need to evaluate your options. What you dont want to do is make the injury worse or devolpe significant scar tissue your knee (your body will try and heal itself) making the matter worse. Good Luck and if you do decide to jump and wait for repairs make sure you get a knee brace to prevent further damage. Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

  10. Congrats on your AFF, I just got my "A" last weekend. Here are a couple small tips to help you afford your skydiving: 1) Eat lots of Top Ramen noddles, they are 10 for a buck and nutrition is overated anyway. 2) During the time of year when the weather is condusive for jumping, make minimum payments on all those bills (you can pay extra when the weather sucks) 3) Give up your other vices temporarily, this one is more addictive than crack and twice as expensive LOL just kidding, I know its tough but hang in there. Also rember you are 14 jumps from your 1st case of Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

  13. The trip was alot of fun, it was nice to be introduced to the folks out at Byrons and help out with a noble cause. I hate to admit this, but you were right All the jumps plus the 's made for a very terrible day after. I had to get up at 5 am (didn't get in the driveway till 10:45) to take daughter to a cheer competition. Needless to say coffee and asprin did not help much. Looked all over for my wallet this morning to no avail (I lose stuff......misplace it I meant quite frequently). Went to the DZ on or way home (my kids got to see the sunset load swoops and now wanna camp the DZ with Pops) still no luck. I headed home and figured I better check the suitcase with my rig in it one more time. Damn thing was in the main chute storage area (I need to get a main to prevent this ) See you on Tuesday in the morning, I have a gift..... Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  14. Yesterday was an awesome day! After safty briefings I was able to get in the jumps needed to complete the process. 16. That is definately correct in my meager opinion. I spun like a top the 1st time my instructor let me go. Yes, it scared the shit out of me, but I arched as hard as I could (like I was told to). I tried to correct the spin with the limited knowledge I had at the time, It could not. My instructor flew in and docked me, thus STOPPING the spin. The spin was constant and allowed for the instructor to time the dock, Giving me a chance to regain composure prior to deploying. I am sure Ed would have attempted to dock me even if I was tumbling and spinning, but why not do as your told and make it easier for the instructor (I would hate to have been kicking my feet and wacked him in the face, thus putting us both in a bad position). Lastly, OBEY your pull altitude as directed by your instructor. In the words of my instructor in order: 1) PULL 2) PULL ON TIME (i.e. Correct Altitude) 3) PULL STABLE Stay Safe, Phil PS I just read this is a Tandem? HEHE do as your told and have a bitchin' ride.
