  1. I don't think that feeling is limited to BASE jumpers, nor is it something limited to heights. I often wonder what it would be like to jump in front of a truck, swerve to the other side of the road, smack myself with a broken beer bottle, stab myself with a knife, etcetera, etcetera. Call me psychotic, but I think everybody has these kind of thoughts at some level betweeen consciousness and animal instinct. Some are just more honest about it than others. Not comitting to these thought-scenarios is what makes you a healthy human being.
  2. Also, and this is not directed at you wwarped but a general observation, I wish people would stop considering it my wiki. The wiki has had more contributions from other people than from me. All I did was set up the infrastructure. Past that point, it became your wiki as much as mine.
  3. Sort of, but not quite. The wiki is more static than a technical discussion forum. If anything the wiki would harvest common information. FWIW, I voted against the technical forum last time around, but I've changed my mind and would fully support it these days.

I'm aware many people have done that, but how many have done it Baffin conditions? It would be quite a feat imho.

Just to clarify, although you probably understood this; they are talking about balloon jumps to the top of cliffs, i.e. you jump your baserig out of the balloon. I suspect they mean you can then skim past the wall while tracking. I suppose the brave can land their canopy on top and then do a TARD or rollover from a 4000 foot wall...
  6. "If you don't have diarrhea in your pants at least three times a week, you gotta hang out with me more often." - Abbie Check the biggest collection of BASE nuggets on the wiki.
  7. Regardless of how good or bad an FJC is, it only amounts to a small part of what it takes to get ready for subsequent jumps. The biggest factor by far is going to be your own brain. Beyond that, it'll be the contributions from your mentor and the other people in your life (jumpers, and non-jumpers). FJCs are great, and ought to be considered a mandatory part of getting into BASE. However, they are also the most unBASE thing you'll ever do in your jumping career. Do it, learn it, enjoy it, but be aware that the real learning doesn't start until you come out of the classroom. p.s. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.
  8. Pffff, what a bunch of pussies... Real men jump a square slider down and time their opening such that the hard opening of the no-slider is perfectly cancelled out by the smack into the water, resulting in a smooth and soft landing. The window in which this works is very small though, so I recommend using a particular type of ZP for your pilotchutes to ensure success.
  9. Seriously, anybody who didn't already have answers to the questions in this thread needs to seriously reconsider his participation in this sport. If you don't have a plan B through Z when you approach an object, legal or not, you go home, start your Playstation 2, and go make some more jumps in Grand Theft Auto. No directed to you Zennie; I know you have your shit together. Just an observation that this really ought to be a non-issue.
  10. The maturity required to handle BASE is vastly underestimated in our community. We're all a bunch of yahoos when we get that onheading opening and fly safely to our landing, but how many of us are truly capable of handling the most dire of situations as men of honour? For starters, put a number in your cellphone under the name ICE or BASE. Make sure this is the person you want to have contacted in case of a BASE emergency. For me, this is not my parents or even a direct family member. It is somebody who I respect and trust to establish a quick action plan, and know to be capable of managing communication channels properly.
  11. Hey, I let you use my pants for a summer!
  12. Stop posting from your car! Or did you get home already? Love you Russel, see you in Vancouver and Golden brother!
  13. I'm doing that, and the tears on my keyboard are short-circuiting it. Thanks Rhonda, you're awesome!
  14. I used to think that, until I learned there are more important things in life.
  15. :( :( :( :( Here's some advice to all of you, if you ever met her, don't let her go. And yeah, good call on the water. I should go get some.
  16. Yeah, I've become pretty pathetic like that. Buzzword-bingo always gets a lot of winners when I'm talking. Sad, sad, sad... Actually I was talking about my parttime gig. My fulltime gig for Abbie doesn't come with these benefits.
  17. When I asked them recently... Their reply, in writing, from their healthcare and insurance expert was... ***...as far as the legalities go about trespassing while you are doing it, I can't comment on the legal ramifications, but as far as any injuries that occur goes, you would be covered for those. Effectively my disability fund or life-insurance will pay out even if I were to injure myself or die on an illegal jump into a nuclear facility in south Zimbabwe while under fire from the local guerilla and being chased by the CIA. Oh, and did I mention they're looking at BASE WIKI as a case study for effective information management within hard-to-align collectives? By the way; we're hiring...
  18. I just wanted to add another HOLY CRAP to this thread. Seriously, sell your entire existing BASE collection and replace it with this one DVD. Don't get me wrong, I love the slider-down stuff. But after seeing this, I'm hoping that EA will open up an office in northern Norway soon.
  19. The original analogy (then I agree, but I already said that), or the updated one? Tell me that: "I really hate NPS people; they should all get their kneecaps blown out. But... I'm not interested in telling you why. Until you've experienced an encounter with somebody like that, you don't really know." doesn't sound a little silly. But lest it still be considered too generic, let me make it even more specific; "I really hate Link; I'd like to get his kneecaps blown out. But... I'm not interested in telling you why. Until you've experienced an encounter with him, you don't really know." That'll work well in front of a judge trying to understand your motivation for doing so... Well, if we're going to argue semantics; my dictionary says: "An expression of an intention to inflict pain, injury, evil, or punishment." Saying one would: "...like to shoot [somebody] in both kneecaps..." sounds a lot like that to me. But even when directed towards a specific park ranger whose involved in such injustice is unclear to the majority of the readers here? Or are we arguing that all park rangers are guilty simply by extension of their NPS membership, similar to how we consider all members of a criminal organization to be some part guilty? Don't give him more credit than he deserves. I'm pretty sure that quickly I'm becoming the real dick in this whole discussion. I'm not trying to get into Link's pants at all, sigh... I'm trying to figure out what specifically Link has done to deserve a directed wish of ill-being. Is it a particular event or because he works for the NPS?
  20. Finally managed to crack my mailbox open, and not for naught. I'm speechless. Absolutely speechless. This is so far beyond any BASE footage I've ever seen. Several times the camera is practically brushing through the top of the trees during a fly-by. Un, fucking, believable. Never mind 20 years, the future is already here.
