    New Job!

    What are you thinking? William
  2. Congrats, you should enjoy it.
  3. I have flown on a lot of different airlines since 9/11. Always did the smae thing with no problem. i put the rig in a duffle bag and carried it on with me. Usually it just goes straight through with no explination needed. If someone starts looking at it funny I just step up and say, "its a parachute, I am a skydiver", and I have never been questioned past that. I think that the people that have problems are the ones who make a big deal over it. Put it in a bag. Act like it is just a normal piece of luggage. William
  4. Clay, looks like you are a favorite target of just about everyone.
  5. That is the most important thing you can do. William
  6. Hey that is a different sheep than the one clay is holding in your other post. What is he trying to pull?
  7. Which according to your other post would be his girlfriend.
  8. You are going to have to bite the bullet and buy a camera helmet. William
  9. Yeah I looked right after I posted that. Usually there are a few on there. There is a TRV-8 on right now but it is several days out. Item # 1355980235. About a week ago I saw one go with a wide angle lense and extra battery for about $430. I thought about bidding on it to have an extra camera and that is when I realized sony had the new models out. I think they are slightly larger though. But at least the price seams to be coming down some. William
  10. Look on ebay. They have come down some recently thanks to the new models that are cheaper. The new TRV18 is selling for $650 on the internet so their prices have had to come down. William
  11. But seriously Jim Mcmahon was asked what percent of his audience believes that wrestling is real. He said probably about 2.5%. I wonder where those 2.5% live. The WWF (or whatever it is called these days) has a big audience. That is a lot of people.
  12. In both of my rigs I have a FX99. In one I have a Raven 1 (181) reserve and in the othr one I have a PD 176. It is a risk either way. You must decide which risk is more comfortable to you. If you are not ok with this increased risk the only option is to get a larger main. For me I would rather have the larger reserve. William
  13. I think that some people's perception of the crossfire's reputation are a little skewed by some of the remarks made here on Dropzone.com. The Crossfire is Icarus' #1 selling canopy. It is wildly popular. Why wouldn't you want to create a Crossfire2. Not really. We have about 20 crossfires at my DZ with no problems and I have ran across other DZs that have the same situation. I think if they did not continue the name they would lose a good following that they have built. People that have determined they don't want to jump them will not no matter what you named them. William
  14. I would go for the new rig. If nothing else go for the new container. I personally like the wings better but besides that if you buy new you can get the harness made to fit you exactly. This makes a difference down the road in comfort. As far as the mains go both are good mains. If you do a search you can find plenty of results on tempo and raven reserves to help make up your mind (I will keep from giving an opinion in an attempt to keep from starting a reserve thread all over agian). There is another choice. You could buy the container new and the canopies used. I am a big fan of this. If you buy right you can usually put a lot of jumps on a container without having to trade it out. I went through 4 canopies with one container. Most people will never wear out a canopy. William
  15. A piece of advice no matter what lense you get. Buy a filter for it. Even if you just get a clear one it will protect your lense. It is a lot cheaper to replace a filter than a lense. William
  16. Ok thanks for the I love atair spill, but can we stay on subject.
  17. Oh yeah, and all but the lowest priced model now records in what I believe to be sony only mpeg ex. I heard it was supposed to be a little better compression technique. We will see how it pans out. William
  18. Anyonw notice that sony has once agian changed their line up of consumer mini dv cameras. Once again we must try out new products and bonehead must remake its d boxes. The good news is that they seem to be getting cheaper. Theie basic mini dv (trv 18) now lists for $799. William
  19. That is if you use it in continuous shooting mode. In other words when you hold down the button it just keeps taking pics as fast as it can untill it fills the buffer. You can still use it in single frame mode (each time you press the release it takes a pic) without this problem. William
  20. Anyone taken a look at this new digital still camera? It looks great for skydiving except for the price tag, but even that is better than previous digital slr cameras. B&H lists it for $2199. It is a 6.3 mega pixel camera that shoots 3 frames per sec up to 8 frames at that resolution. Its size is similar to any normal slr. I want. I want. William
  21. To try to get this thread back on subject, since it has turned in to the supestition thread, I think you did a great job with the malfunction. You can look back and find things you can do to make it safer in the future and that is great, but the important thing is that you stayed calm and took care of the problem. You saved your life. Way to go. William
  22. When I bought my lens I called B & H and got the same answer. I bought the standard lens because everyone else had it and I knew it worked well. I haven't seen anyone use the other one. Please try it out and let us know. The main reason I wanted to go with one that I had seen other people use was that it is very humid here and I had seen that the standard one would come apart if it fogged up on the inside. I don't know about the high res one. William
