  1. They will need to be if "transitioning away" is to become a reality.
  2. In many places the grid is just barely strong and stable enough for the current load. Luckily EV adoption is slow enough right now and charging happens mostly at low demand times that the needed build out may be possible in time. A complete change over to EVs is going to require a lot of both generation and distribution. Far beyond the nibbling around the edges done so far.
  3. Like my post said, if I converted from gas to electric heat and also needed to charge two cars I would. Actually the furnace conversion alone would require it. Replacing ICE vehicles with EVs is going to require many distribution upgrades. My wife is absolutely not forgoing the AC either. The truth is that transitioning away is great in theory, but will be a long slow process.
  4. Mostly true. But where I live a lot of people have natural gas fired emergency generators for comfort during what are very occasional blackouts. Manitoba has a very robust power system mostly run on hydro power. But the point is infrastructure and distribution is not cheap either way. I'm currently using NG for heat and the carbon tax would need to go very high to get me to switch. Not to mention that my 100 amp service panel would need upgrading and especially so if charging two vehicles was to start happening.
  5. Tankers, pipes, pumps, valves etc are all just pieces of metal as well. Permitting and building power lines is also subject to nimbyism and high costs.
  6. If the DZ is not within range of your EV that you charge at home every day you probably need to move closer. Friday after work is closer to sunset than battery range is. The bigger problem is the fact that a lot of people live in apartments with limited ability to recharge overnight. And....is the DZ going to have charging available for the return trip?
  7. It's just as well. It will keep them occupied and looking bad at the same time. It will come to nothing except to embarrass them more before the election. At the same time it will keep them busy and less likely to find time to do real harm.
  8. Thanks Ron. Me too. The greatest adventure ever.
  9. No explanation is needed. It's a matter of faith don't you know?
  10. My part in the transition will be foregoing the use of private jets for transportation.
  11. Now that's transitioning right there. Put me down for a pair as soon as the STC comes out.
  12. Let’s make it a slow transition. We could cut the number of jumps we do by 10%.
  13. What a victory! The world is going to transition away from fossil fuels. So I’m wondering what are you going to do to help in this effort?
  14. Yes. In Texas. They know not the fury they have unleashed.
  15. The win will not come in the courts. It will come in the voting booth.
  16. They won't prosecute the woman. Only the doctor. Think about it.
  17. Ron, your relationship with TK is just sooooo special.
  18. David, his name is Ken Paxton. You are probably busy studying or I would say look this guy up. He is among the worst of TX politicians. Even his own party hates him.
  19. We are nowhere near the maximum. The real question is what kind of world we want to live in. Biodiversity is already declining due to our species. As we dominate and populate the Earth more we become more vulnerable to large scale disease events. But war and breakdown of society in fights over resources may come first. Most likely worldwide events will not happen but localized breakdowns will. In a dystopian society access to the medical care you and I take for granted will not be available for most people.
  20. It is certainly a growing problem in some parts of the world. Especially the Indian sub-continent and sub-Saharan Africa. The solution is education of and rights for women. A lot of the key points are here: https://www.un.org/en/global-issues/population#:~:text=The world's population is expected, billion in the mid-2080s. And my favourite go to.....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projections_of_population_growth
  21. It mostly comes down to how much freedom and what options women have. Small minority? I'm not sure how you can think that when the proof is right there. The population in the most developed nations is declining despite our longer lives.
  22. Not really so much as you are assuming among the young and educated women that I know. There is a reason the birth rate in western countries is not high enough to sustain the population without immigration.
  23. Electric motors go round and round. ICEs have pistons that must reciprocate. They have become pretty darn good in spite of that, but now that batteries are good enough EVs have a large advantage. They aren't even all that much greener, but it doesn't matter because they are just plain better.
  24. While he's sleeping someone else is plotting the next massacre of innocents. Putting him to sleep is about as effective as a bunch of T&Ps.
