  1. It is typically called a purge. Quite common in non democratic governments.
  2. There is also the fact that they had to consider the possibility of needing to defend the nation from invasion by meddling imperialist Europeans, especially the English lurking just across the northern border.
  3. I know. There are cat ladies but no catfish ladies.
  4. Stop it please, both of you. No one wins at cat wars.
  5. Well....if you can't tell the difference between good and evil maybe they are the same.
  6. Large parts of the conservative orthodoxy stood four square against the maga hoard and Trump in 2015. When he clinched the nomination most of them reluctantly came on board. When he came to power that reluctance mostly evaporated. The same thing will happen if he regains power.
  7. So, you claim to dislike the maga agenda of American primacy, yet somehow think that it is wrong for the neighbours to comment? Frankly full of freaking unfriendly foolishness.
  8. Sort of like any flying. It's the take offs and landings that are most dangerous.
  9. Musk probably needed to appease his Saudi investors.
  10. And now Walmart is the latest giant advertiser to self fornicate. https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/01/business/walmart-advertiser-ads-x-elon-musk/index.html
  11. This Bob Dylan song sums it up. I'll stand on his grave to make sure that he's dead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEmI_FT4YHU
  12. To Bob Iger no less. It's a good thing Disney is woke and probably has characters who can do as Elon is asking.
  13. I've been told that it takes all kinds. I too can only marvel in stunned disbelief at the level of stupidity required to hold some of the opinions I see expressed here at times. Yet there they are, often winning elections. So many WTF moments.
  14. Because we can't stand on guard against it if we don't understand just how much of it is in our societies. This isn't FB, your feed is not curated to cater to what you already believe.
  15. Are women still allowed to travel without a close male relative as guardian?
  16. I have read about this. And it is frightening. The most frightening part of it is that it is here already in 3 states. Arizona, Arkansas, and Louisiana. In those states there is a optional form of marriage available that only provides for divorce in limited circumstances. Just like the bad old days. I'm not sure what happens if one of the couple leaves the state like the old days of going to Nevada for a divorce. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covenant_marriage
  17. Berkeley Breathead to the rescue.
  18. Which leads me to ask, who is Willem? I know nothing at all about this person. I recognize that I have no real right or need to know, but I am curious.
  19. But they are not. They have an active contest going for the nomination. And if Trump falters for any reason DeSantis or Haley will be there.
  20. Social and demographic changes coupled with the new ability to communicate especially through social media. It may as well be a time machine, it has become that profound. I am starting to think that the Chinese approach is likely to catch on and take over western societies.
  21. I guess I could watch that. But I can't imagine inflicting that sort of thing on myself. I know everyone ages differently, and that relatively rich white men with good healthcare and active lifestyles do better than most. But the man is 81 years old. Voters have good reason to be sceptical. When the best thing you can say about him is that he is better than a dotard you have to question how excited the electorate is going to be next year. The D party is putting its eggs in a very fragile basket.
  22. I guess I mean that they would rehearse him and make sure he is rested. It may be unfair, but whenever I see him speak I have serious doubts that he is still vigorous enough for such a demanding position.
  23. It would be hard for me to vote for Biden if I had a vote. I would do it anyway for the same reasons as you. Weak voiced, feeble, tottering is not a good look. And you have to know that he is carefully curated by his staff which leaves me wondering what his bad moments look like. I fear that lot of people are going to walk away from voting or go for a third party candidate. A lot of people are going to seriously consider a vote for Biden to be a vote for Harris. Not that I think there is anything wrong with Harris, but I suspect that many Americans do.
