  1. From the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7269743.stm As someone going to a memorial service next week for a trooper killed in Helmand last year, I say it's good to see Harry taking the same risks.
  2. From the article: Irony score: off the scale!
  3. As Roy Scheider (RIP) would say, 'Y'gonna need a bigger Herc...'
  4. I think she was gorgeous-er in Spooks.
  5. Somewhat, but it's really par for the course as far as the Balkans go. That region's been buggering things up since time immemorial...
  6. Sounds to me like this bloke Hubbell is wetting-himself petrified that Hillary might win...
  7. Of course, if you wanted to be ironic (and keep yourself busy) you could try setting fire to their homes...
  8. can you define this? I don't think I should even do a websearch on the phrase here at work Jumping in here perhaps, but basically 'pay him off' or 'bribe him', as in 'bung him a wedge [of cash]'.
  9. Sun-roof? No no, the hat travels separately, possibly in a Reliant Robin....
  10. I'm sure the Archbishop has a cunning plan, possibly as cunning as a fox who's just been made professor of cunning at Oxford University!
  11. I sympathise, but isn't it a bit much to blame it on Mr Bean and Blackadder?
  12. Watch and shoot! Watch and shoot! Don't have much of an opinion about Williams either way, and haven't seen these comments sufficiently in context to make a judgement, but it certainly sounds like he's well and truly put his foot in it this time.
  13. Serious question - do security problems in US schools really bear comparison to those in Israel?
  14. Ahhh. Any and all atrocities and human rights abuses are ok, as long as no-one finds out. Got it. Bad dental plans and milky white skin may be your idea of utopia. However, it's not necessarily everybodys opinion. When the United State's unemployment rate tops the UKs, then you can malign us. Until such time, continue to take your snaggle toothed unemployed bum to the welfare office this Monday morning. I hear you get the best food stamps from the Dole, early in the month. Chop, chop! How 'bout some tea n crumpits? I don't suppose the phrase 'non sequitur' means anything to you?
  15. [Insert Terminator/Conan/bodybuilder joke here]
  16. True (though I'd be more concerned if he was trying to bring an actual weapon in) but part of me doubts that a man who is obviously concerned about doing his civic duty is going to go on a tiny-knife-wielding rampage. This strikes me as something of an unnecessary lose-lose situation for the individual and the state. Perhaps in future if the kirpan ban is not altered, facilities could be put in place to allow a witness to testify remotely.
  17. From the article: That would strike me as an important consideration. Given that (on the basis of this article) I would consider the security risk posed by this object negligible, it would seem to me that the state has done itself a disservice, and harmed its greater interests (justice) which would have been better served by allowing the man to testify.
  18. Found parts of that article quite amusing: "How do we defeat the threat of well-funded, ideologically commited and sophisticated extremists hell bent on the destruction of our way of life who have no qualms about causing massive casualties?" "I know, a fence! That'll stop 'em!"
  19. And virtually every one of them guaranteed 'copycat' crime status by the sheer AMOUNT of press coverage over it. Just to re-ask an earlier question (to a different poster) that got a bit lost in the course of the thread, how would you like to see such incidents reported?
  20. Could you give an example of a school shooting you thought was 'blown out of proportion'? How should such incidents be reported?
  21. More than a thousand people turn out on the streets in his defence and yet he doesn't have adequate community ties?
  22. Just a simple question - when talking about sex education in school, what age are we talking about? Primary/elementary level? Older than that; 12, 14, 16? For my part, I remember having lessons about puberty and 'where babies come from' when I was 10 or so, and then the reproductive science and STD side of things variously between 13 and 16.
  23. If the tears were fake (or if not fake, well-timed if genuine), what do people make of the 'Iron my shirt' heckling? That struck me as a very easy thing to manufacture.
  24. One of Britain's finest journalists!
