  1. Once again you put your anti-education bias out there for all to see. Why do you so resent those people who choose to spend time and money investing in marketable skills that could potentially result in a real career? Don Do you think full time students should be considered employed? What if they don't have a job but would like one? I did not see this as "anti education bias", but simply as a way to get an accurate number of people who are not employed at a job. James I guess the question would be "are full time students available for work"? This based on the defenition of unemployed that appears to be common in the US. James

  3. Another question fo the OP, Have you gotten your FAA medical yet? As some here have found out when trying to get one to do tandems there is more to it than the physical. Edit... I see in the OP's profile he already does tandems so should already have a medical.
  4. Are these type of loans backed by gov funds? It's hard to believe a guy with no job can get a $75K unsecured loan without the gov backing it up. Do we the taxpayers get to pay for it if he does not?
  5. Do a little research on Silver State Helicopter flight schools and see what can happen at an established school. I googled Phoenix East Aviation reviews and found a few things. Check this http://www.flightschoolreviewer.com/United-States/FL---Daytona-Beach/phoenix-east-aviation That's just the top of the list. Be very carefull.
  6. Be very carefull about paying upfront for flight instruction. Not long ago a major heli flight school went under and left many students with loans to pay back and no flight training. James
  7. Don't get to proud of yourself there just yet, I have not jumped in 5 years and probably wont for quite some time. I will certainly address EPs with an expert prior to my next jump as I had planned all along. James
  8. I'm not at all sure it would be the correct thing to do, but I believe I would have cut away as the jumper in the video did. I say this because I have not had to use my reserve yet and think I would cutaway as that is how I have practiced my EPs over and over. Sort of a react to the high rate of decent on "autopilot" thing if you will. It will (with any luck) be interesting to hear the thoughts of the jumper involved after some recovery time. My question to the more experienced jumpers would be.... Now that you've had time to think about it would you cut away and deploy reserve or just deploy the reserve and why?
  9. That looks like an article written for the general population (read wuffos) not advice to skydivers. Is the burr up your a$$ that nobody agreed with you in writing that there are more than just those two options in that situation? Are you saying that she should not have cut away and should have deployed her reserve to get more nylon over her head? At the speed she was decending in that video are you suggesting she should have used her time trying to clear the wrap? James
  10. Is this the current EMT training and procedure for dealing with blunt object strikes? James
  11. What are your credentials or your source for this information? James
  12. Try jumper cables from your car/truck to the batt in the RV. Do you get lights now? if so problem is in your Batt/chg system. James
  13. Forgot to do the online check in the night before and got a really bad boarding pass did ya? James
  14. I think the real question is not how many feet, but how many hands. 3 times as many as feet.
  15. I'm curious, please quote the portion mentioning him. James
  16. "Specifically, we estimate that H.R. 6079 would reduce direct spending by $890 billion and reduce revenues by $1 trillion between 2013 and 2022, thus adding $109 billion to federal budget deficits over that period" Does this mean that the federal gov. is in the process of increasing revenues by $109 billion more in the name of healthcare than it plans to spend on healthcare? James
  17. I found it interesting that "the rest of us paid for" is repeated. He is not speaking to those who bulit a business, he is speaking to those who are envious of people who took the risk to build something. James
  18. http://abcnews.go.com/US/florida-police-taser-subdue-jaywalker/story?id=16763050#.T_9E5F1TNGQ Price (the camerawoman) had brass knuckles, a firearm, pepper spray, and a knife in her backpack. She did not have a concealed weapon permit. Not very smart to get into that situation while breaking much more serious laws.
  19. The officer responds to the question "what do I need to provide ID for" with "the fact that you committed an infraction". I guess the question becomes may an officer require ID after someone has committed an infraction of the law. I would not think the loitering law you quote above would have anything to do with this situation.
  20. I saw officers following their use of force continuum to the letter. Someone they saw breaking a law was not complying with a lawful request to show ID. Now... how does stopping a jaywalker escalate to someone being tazed? We saw it on video. Having someone with you interfering with police business doesn't help the situation. Refusing lawful request doesn't help the situation. Don't lay this all on the officers. Officers on the street follow established procedures. If you start asking that they use their own judgement, then you start asking them to ignore policy and process. Is that what you really want? Something is wrong when the use of force continuum involves tazing somebody who is not resisting and poses no threat of harm to anybody, including the officers. I do not believe the cops ever had the ability to require the man to provide ID, as the Florida "stop and identify" statute is pretty explicit in limiting the officers ability to demand ID to instances of loitering or prowling. Maybe that is why the officers did not want to provide an explanation or cite a statute. Here is the text of the FL code: 856.021 Loitering or prowling; penalty.— (1) It is unlawful for any person to loiter or prowl in a place, at a time or in a manner not usual for law-abiding individuals, under circumstances that warrant a justifiable and reasonable alarm or immediate concern for the safety of persons or property in the vicinity. (2) Among the circumstances which may be considered in determining whether such alarm or immediate concern is warranted is the fact that the person takes flight upon appearance of a law enforcement officer, refuses to identify himself or herself, or manifestly endeavors to conceal himself or herself or any object. Unless flight by the person or other circumstance makes it impracticable, a law enforcement officer shall, prior to any arrest for an offense under this section, afford the person an opportunity to dispel any alarm or immediate concern which would otherwise be warranted by requesting the person to identify himself or herself and explain his or her presence and conduct. No person shall be convicted of an offense under this section if the law enforcement officer did not comply with this procedure or if it appears at trial that the explanation given by the person is true and, if believed by the officer at the time, would have dispelled the alarm or immediate concern. (3) Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. Frankly I am shocked at hoe freely and frequently people on here who claim to be conservatives are willing to dispense with civil liberties. Civil liberties are for all of us and protect all of us. These cops should be investigated for violations of the 14th amendment. The city may also be liable for a large lawsuit (if there is a lawyer willing to take the case on contingency). Are you saying that in Florida the police can not require ID when they catch someone breaking the law? The guy was jaywalking, wouldn't getting ID so that you don't write a ticket with a false name on it seem the normal thing to do? Is the officer just supposed to write "B. Obama" on the ticket if that is the name he is given? I do believe that law enforcement are going to tazers more than necc. these days and that this needs to be addressed. James
  21. I do have an alarm, insurance, and I live very cheap so the only thing worth taking is my tv and maybe my laptop. My tv is 6yrs old an at that point I have to buy a new one. Only way they can get in is if they toss a brink thru- a window. I have two retired neighbors that are super noisy and always reporting anything and everything. Check the locks on the windows. A common trick if these guys were crooks is to unlock a window while "cleaning up" so they can clean you out later. James
  22. You have front legs? Seriously, you did fine. Ask your instructors about the "accuracy trick", it's a way to look at an object/spot and tell if you will land before or behind it on your current course. James
  23. This sounds like the perfect opportunity for the "spork" people to cash in. Do they do this with all groups or is it just Hispanics with forks/table knives the President fears? James
