Nicely put Brian. At 4800ft elevation and a very hot and dry climate i see a lot of turbulence. Ive been thinking about it for some time now and the : "post recovery slower than normal speed on the large wing" thought just cleared a whole lotta stuff up for me real quickly. Thank you. Not the traditional thought on the matter but a definite move forward. Tricky to implement at low experience levels but all the more reason for people to get experience... but that is another of discussion. Great post thanx again. I like this one: A goldfish swims at 1 mph. A guy goes to the pet store; purchases a goldfish in a bowl and then gets in his ferrari to go home. On the way home he cranks it up to 200mph. No. The goldfish still only swims at 1mph so he only feels the water rushing past him at ......1mph. Now he does the same thing from the top of the bowl to the bottom... hey presto: 1mph. The moving mass of air we call wind is like the bowl/ mass of water. The canopy is like the goldfish: Totally unaware that he's even in a Ferrari and only able to swim as fast as his design will allow. Up Down Fwd Bckwd. It matters not. Couple of points: "If you drop something in a train moving at 100mph, does it fall any faster than something dropped when u are standing on the ground? Likewise, in the air + canopy pilot system do you expect your turn to be any bigger whether the system is moving or not?" ...You dismissed this very quickly Slow down ... the dropping is the loss of alt in a turn... very good analogy actually... next: "When you turn your canopy you are exposing more of your wing to the wind, right?" No ... not correct. this is where you are missing it... the wind sees the canopy from the front. Always. If it did hit the topskin and get held in the dive the wing would collapse... not so? This whole concept is a tricky one... we get the basics and then think we've under stood it entirely...... if it still sticks just keep unwrapping it but keep an open mind. On a massive student canopy you could prob do pull ups on the frnts so maybe there is a size/pressure relationship there -but- nothing scales perfectly in aero design so I'm not sure you can break it down quite so simply. My fx 93 has radically higher front riser pressure than my 105 hurricane . My 105 actually felt to me like it had more pressure than my hurricane 120 (although that was a while back so ). the designers could go nuts here I'm sure- line trim ; fabric used ; Line length ; On a practical level - What are you trying to understand. Hi All, trying to establish how many worldwide DZ's are using radios for student landings. Seems a good way to go though there must be problems associated to it. Comments welcome

Good posts all round. Just to add: At altitude ; do the practice 270's slow with lots of alt loss. note the alt lost. Then do 'em medium rate - again note the loss. Then do them quick so as to achieve min. loss - again note the alt you eat up. Then do that all again using toggles to recover - play with agressive recoveries and gradual recoveries. Again note the numbers - write them down even - cant hurt and you may see some cool patterns emerge. Then go do it all again with recoveries on the rears. Smooth ; firm ; and agressive . Again note all the numbers. keep track of the other canopies and note where the plane is while it descends. Make yourself work. This kinda stuff will help you multi task better. Take your time and enjoy. The rewards will be there. People dont care how much you know until they know how much you care.
