Anyway, I'm not judging you, it just makes me curious as to your reasons for buying the canopy in the first place... Look at this picture and ask yourself which swooper flew along more of the lines or flew more 'legs' of the pattern. A 270 is really just a small circle or 'orbit' at the base/finals turn point. It doesn't affect "The Pattern". Flying a 180 to finals is really only joining the pattern at finals - the worst poss time. And if its a left hand 180 then its not even from a point 'outside' the pattern but rather 'inside' the established rectangle. Perhaps a R/H 270 flown off the base leg is not 100% standard but any traffic in the pattern, behind that pilot will still have a good view of that canopy and the maneuvre. general post for interest sake. not a direct response to your post paulie. Been using this setup for around 750 jumps now. i am using 300 hma cascaded lines. and 900 hma brake lines. i have the 'top rings' (cut off an old pair of risers) attached thru the slink on the outboard side of the rear riser/ slink assembly. my removable slider uses a simple ring cut from the large 3ring system seen on non mini risers like on tandems. *NOTE yes this ring is slightly too large, so i hav replaced the casino chips in the canopy's stabilisers with slightly larger ones to avoid the slider hanging up on a stabiliser. i hav seen no wear on the slinks. i hav seen no wear on the brake lines either. i hav seen no dents or knicks on the top rings or on the removable slider rings. my slider does not attach to the rings by means of a length of line like most i've seen. instead i hav kevlar webbing. Here i HAVE seen some wear from the slider rings. none of this is gonna make you go 200 metres but the benefits exist and the difference in feel is notable. No i dont think so. I had fai judge Barry McAuley explain it to me as follows: World Comp record is the firthest distance flown under comp rules and regs anywhere in the world. In order to be validated ther must be a min of 2 FAI judges present. When jay set 206m he did so carrying weight that the latest comp rules do not allow. Therefore they made his record a 'Performance Record' . Im not sure exactly what criteria exist for that category record. The current world comp record, held by Jonothan Taggle, is a distance of 99m set under VERY tough conditions indeed in Vienna Austria last August. I'm sure many guys have since gone further but never with 2 fai judges present so JT holds it still. My personal best is 141 thru 5 foot gates and the furthest ive ever seen someone go was Paul Rossouw who did a 165 in Klatovy last year in prep for vienna..... That was f*gn awesome. Its not all about records n stuff i know, and there are a lot of great pilots out there flying very far and fast every day. It is still nice to know how the world judging systems are working. To anyone who wasn't ther lemme say this was one of skydiving's defining moments in our country. The first complete FAI standard CP comp- held over a truly great pond. Yes the venue is new and the runoffs were certainly not what they could have been... in fact the runoffs were friggin hardcore but the guys went out and dealt with the comp like true sportsmen and women should. We all learned a lot, grew a lot and understood exactly what great competition is all about! I feel really privelaged to be a part of the birth of this new era in SA. Almost forgot - final dimensions are : *110 m in length and ... *45 m at the widest point (in the middle)...... *narrowing to 20m wide at each end. *it is 1.2 m deep and slopes up to level over 3m Around the pond is a clear and level area measuring 650m x 300m if not more quite a job but IT'S DONE!!! * now ... about that wingover Jay.... any input welcome.... Hiya Airborne, one poss problem to consider: when i started jumping a cb wing i did 10-20 jumps and honestly thought it sucked. you see it flew so differently to a nine cell that i thought it was a f-up. The aweful riser press the inability to shut it down properly the lunatic openings and sink rate etc etc all made me think this was a mistake and this whole cb thing wasn't for me. problem is the speed i progressed at didnt give me the exposure to a very broad range of canopies etc. I stuck it out and now i love x-braced wings... all of em for diff reasons. I'm an ok pilot i guess (i finished top 50% of the field at world meet last year and managed 5th place in speed) but im still learning something every time i jump. thats what really blows my mind. So here's my point: you seem to want to plan quite far ahead and create some kind of schedule to follow and learn by. Thats not a bad thing but remember these wings are not like 9 cells. You may not like it at first and your style WILL need to develope around the wing. so which one is almost irrelevant from that perspective. Also the way you fly now may be diff to the way you fly in 6 months so predicting a 'best way forward' may be more limiting than helpful. kick back. take the pressure off. fly coz you love it and become mindfull of your learning curve and your weaknesses. thats really whats its about. just my thoughts. enjoy whatever you do thats the main thing. theres no rush man the nxt 1000 jumps are gonna happen anyway... may as well do em chilled.

Expect a complete change in flying characteristics bro. Everything from turn rate , sink rate to riser pressures and flare. not to mention those awesome xaos openings(blah blah) and the sheer speed that evrything will seem to happen at when you first cross to the new wing. Not to change subject here but think about demo'ing all the diff wings you can get your hands on before making a decision about which one to go for. I'll help wherever i can p. no rush man enjoy the ride. exciting times ahead - cant wait to go play dude.
