  2. Possibly, the employers who sent the jobs oversea should foot the bill. Possibly, the republican administrations that caused the economic collapse should foot the bill. The Great Depression started under Hoover and the current down turn started under Bush. History shows this to be true. History shows that times are better under Democrats. It took FDR ten years to clean up the mess that he inherited from Hoover. It took far less for Clinton to clean up the mess that Reagan and Bush number one left. The economy is far better now since Bush number two left the White House. Of course, the republicans will always deny statistical proof. Surely, there are a number of folks right here in this forum who will always deny the facts. They will always bow down to the party that has, as history has shown, caused the economic down turns. They will always cringe when, as history has shown, the economy swings up under Democratic rule. They will always turn away from the facts. Go figure. How long should benefits last? Hard to say. Maybe, depending on the region a person resides in. What is available? How many are hoping for those few jobs available. A person cannot just up and move to another area in hope of landing a job. That is easier said than done. There are to many variables for an easy answer to this question. I would venture to say, for every job an employer moved from the USA to another country, a percentage of the money saved using cheap labor should go towards providing for those they put out of work. 3. I'm missing how the voltage regulator could cause the second half of his problem. You are not missing anything as the voltage regulator has nothing to do with the system that starts the bike. The voltage regulator does as the name implies. It regulates/rectifies the AC voltage produced by the alternator. The AC voltage is rectified to DC. Now, there may be a problem with the regulator in that it is not sending current to ground and over charging the system but, this can only occur if the bike is running and the magnets are spinning. Also, I highly doubt that a bad regulator would affect the starter relay, starter switch or, main relay as these components are out of the loop. I would perform a few simple diagnostic tests such as: Continuity on the starter relay. There should be continuity. Starter current draw. Is there current present? If no, follow the wires to the next component. If current is present, does it exceed 150 amps? If so, replace the starter. I would also check all connections in the loop from the handle bar switch to the starter. Likewise, I would also test the switches themselves. I was factory trained through Harley-Davidson. I can do amazing wire jobs The pics are of a 72 Sportster that came into the shop I was spinning a wrench at. The wires in the before pic were stuffed up under the seat. I completely rewired the bike, changed out the components and replaced the starter (the armature and commutator were so badly shorted that any hope of a bench job was out.) A friend of the owner of the bike wired it for him and the bike never started right or even run properly. The fool even wired the lights off of the coil with an inline switch. I am sure your problem is a simple one, even if it is a bad starter (one hour job to replace.) It is only a matter of following the wires. 4. But you can't deny Hanks served admirably in WWII and 'Nam. Apparently, the army has no problem accepting cross-dressers! "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  5. Well, of course he is not an astronaut. Who has time to fly into space when there are shrimp to be caught. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  6. How LAME. Learn to do a bit of research (I know, I know. Research is above and beyond you but, please, at least, give it an attempt.) Seagal has never even been in the military. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  7. Way to go, Missouri. Spend a $100.00 to save $1.00. http://www.kansascity.com/2013/12/26/4714700/kansas-follows-missouris-path.html It appears that the cost far out pace the savings. I believe that any person wishing to receive welfare could easily beat the test. One only needs to refrain from smoking for 30 days. Most other substances are out of a persons system in less the 5 days. http://aspe.hhs.gov/hsp/11/DrugTesting/ib.pdf Ahhhh, the hypocrisy! http://cjonline.com/news/2013-12-19/legislator-drug-testing-includes-no-penalties-failure "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." 8. A collection of Prince of Darkness jokes (courtesy of Paul Mossberg, New Jersey Replicar Club) The Lucas Electric motto: "Get home before dark." Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim "sudden, unexpected darkness." Lucas--inventor of the first intermittent wiper. Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp. The three-position Lucas switch--DIM, FLICKER and OFF. The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE. The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products. "I've had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced any prob... If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either. Did you hear about the Lucas powered torpedo? It sank. It's not true that Lucas, in 1947, tried to get Parliament to repeal Ohm's Law. They withdrew their efforts when they met too much resistance. Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night, since they all look the same?" "He replied, it doesn't matter which one you use, nothing happens!" Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck. Quality Assurance phoned and advised the Engineering guy that they had trouble with his design shorting out. So he made the wires longer. Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas makes the refrigerators. Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone. Thomas Edison invented the Light Bulb. Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit. Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas equipment: check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk three times sunwise around your car chanting: "Oh mighty Prince of Darkness protect your unworthy servant." Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random frequency. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  9. When I bought my Norton Interstate (totaled out. paid $100.00 for it in 82 from a Chief on my ship) and built a rigid frame for the engine, the original Lucas electrics went into the garbage can never to be seen again. However, I did replace the original stuff with a Lucas Rita electronic ignition that worked very well for a number of years. Since then I have used a Dyna ignition. This time around I'm looking at a Boyer set up. Long rest the Prince of Darkness "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  10. I was testing rail on the KCS in Monroe a couple of months back. I do know a few railroaders who do know the Robertson. None of these guys had anything nice to say about them. They are basically yuppies. The house they show on the TV show is a prop. These guys live in mansions. The beards were grown for the show. It is what it is, a scripted show. It really is funny how some people can believe that these guys are true back woods rednecks that live a simple life. http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/willie-robertsons-house-duck-dynasty/view/?service=0 "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." 11. I've been telling the old lady (she doesn't smoke) if Missouri ever legalize I am off the rails and setting up to grow legally. My lights have been cold for too many years. When I did grow, I worried about getting nutrients. The Worms Way in St.Louis always had cops sitting in their parking lot. Kinda made ya nervous. Even ordering online made me somewhat nervous. Would love to open a grow store in Southwest Missouri if the State ever allows legal mj. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young

  13. Back in the day, we were never tested on the railroad. Hell, as soon as the hand brake was set, it was doobie time. Unfortunately they make you piss for any reason they can think of. Usually the crap comes down from the worst drunks on the rails. I much rather work with a guy who smokes after work than someone who drinks all night. These days, I am a supporter not, a player. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  14. I would hope that an incident as described happens to someone who has deep enough pockets to litigate the matter. The entire business of employers being able to drug test employees is constitutionally wrong. An employer rents your services for part of the time. Employers have no business trying to regulate what one does on one's own time. The worst part about "drug testing" is that the results are bullshit. The bad stuff, like heroin, barbiturates, cocaine, etc, all metabolize out of your system in about 48 hours. The least harmful drug, marijuana, has metabolites that show up for weeks after the ingestion. In no way does the effect of the drug match the test results. If drug tests are acceptable, why aren't ALL employees subject to them, including all management, right up to the corporate officers? The employees should be able to select which management is tested. Slavery is supposed to be illegal. How is allowing employers to control what you do on your own time any different than slavery? I fully agree. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  15. here's my 'page' on just about EVERYTHING (item 1 better be reflected in all my posts, political, social and otherwise) 1 - I trust adults to make their own decisions and to take responsibility for their own decisions. 2 - Parents should raise children to be good adults. 3 - Adult decisions should wait until the child becomes an adult. follow the logic for this specific scenario a - marriage is an adult decision b - therefore, the person getting married makes that decision c - therefore, minors do not get married d - therefore, the responsibility of the parent in this regard is to NOT LET A CHILD MARRY, raise them to choose wisely once they are an adult, hopefully, the parent does a good enough job such that the, finally, adult offspring, respects the advice of the parent (advice does not equal control). individual freedom and self determination for adults is not negotiable - it's the absolute moral keystone That is a workable plan. I just don't think fathers need to abdicate the position of love in favor of previous instruction. It is a different idea. In my world I see families stick together for up to three generations. They discuss and pray about decisions as a family. What became of your first two wives? Care to elaborate? 16. Well, considering the uncle has, probably, been eating dogs for a number of years, it's only fair. Actually, that is really fucked up. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  17. Employer: "So, Bob, where did you go on vacation?" Bob: "Oh, I went to Colorado." Employer: "Pee into this cup, Bob." One would be wise to just say "I stayed home and did some repairs on the house" and to not post any pictures on Facebook. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  18. What, you wouldn't want two goats and a yak???? Are you insane???? Who wouldn't take two goats and a yak for a lowly female???? Just what in hell is this world coming to? Ron, just where do I rate now on your child-adult scale? Any chance of getting back to the grown up table just seems impossible now. Damn the the torpedoes. Full speed ahead! "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  19. I do. i don't consider her property. i want her to be able to choose wisely for herself as an adult. she makes good decisions. Prior to 18, it was my responsibility to keep the creeps away from her and set an example such that she values herself enough as an adult to choose wisely. The outdated values you are defending here absolutely treat daughters as commodities and completely devalues them. We had a Euro poster here that was all gung ho about sex with 12 year olds and older. I told him his position was filthy, regardless of his local and social accepted laws and standards. This thread isn't any different, IMO, to me. It's ethically wrong. "Adults" get married. Children learn to become adults. In today's level of sophistication - Kids aren't adult at 14 like a long time ago, more like 25. if someone had proposed to marry her at 15/16/17/18 they would have accidentally smashed into the door frame as they were escorted out - the boy, or his parents, or both. and then I'd have warned the entire community about them God says she is property and you can sell her if you want. Got a problem with that? Take it up with God Damn, there I go a again. Slipping ever further from the adult section "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  20. Jebus said no such thing. It was his daddy. You know, the one who banged a young virgin. He was so gentle that he did not even bust her cherry. Probably just a small penis. Anyways, go forth and fuck your eyes out and then do some math. You know, multiply. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  21. Probably so. I'll have to check on that. Back to being serious. Teen brides tend to have a higher rate of divorce. They tend to be less educated. They tend to be destined to a life of poverty. They tend to suffer more abuse. They are ill equip for the harsh reality of raising children. They tend to not have the skills to find gainful employment and more likely to be on welfare. They are still children and should focus on a higher education that will equip them for the future. Any parent that would allow their 15 year old daughter to marry should have their head examined and then re-examined. I was going to marry my high school sweetheart. My parents were not at all happy about that. Her parents felt the same as mine. We were mad and thought we would hold off for awhile. She went to college and I joined the Navy. We stayed in touch for awhile and never saw each other again. Chances are, we would had divorced within 10 years. In hindsight, I am glad we didn't marry. It would had rated up there with the bad decisions I had made in my life. I have gotten engaged several times since her. Each time I ended it before the alter. It just never felt right. When I met Bev, it did feel right. I am glad that I waited and not become a divorce statistic. Teenagers should put the hormones in check and think of the future consequences of their present actions. No one wants to be a bad statistic. Think before you act. 22. Because a "15-16" year old doesn't know their ass from the elbow, and is in NO position to be married and/or raise a child. Hell, they ARE still a child. It's pretty simple. I refer you back to my post #377. You are not taking the concept of cultural relativity into consideration. Which is what I was trying to put out to AndyBoyd. You must probably think Warren Jeffs is a great guy and was wrongfully accused. After all, who in their right mind would want one of those thieving 20 year old women. Get them while they're young! Easier to brain wash! My wife is two years older than me. What in your Gods name was I thinking? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  23. Tested on the old C&NW lines a number of times in the 80's in Iowa. Chances are I was on one the rail detectors you saw. Those lines are now UP rail. Although, we do not test UP rail, Sperry does sell them the hi-rail rail detector trucks that they use, as well as training the guys on them. We don't use the rail-bound detector cars in the US anymore. They are still used in Canada and Mexico as it is impossible to find lodging in the majority of those countries (given the remote areas that rails run through.) In the US, it is all hi-rail trucks. In the pic the truck is sitting directly atop of the US-Canadian border on CP rail in Portal, ND. It was one damn cold day of rail testing. Hats off to ya linemen. Tough job. Especially when the ice is pulling everything down. Someone has to get out there and restring them. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  24. I guess the answer to my question is yes, yes it would kill you to read something that doesn't echo your usual sources of "news". We wouldn't want that to happen. He is often my source for cheap entertainment when I can't set on the tracks to test the rails. Yup, my life is really exciting. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  25. I have two daughters I have never seen. Well, I have seen Bri a few times. One tends to miss out on a lot when one chooses the road. In my case, it is the rails. On the other hand, I have tested near every inch of railroad in the majority of the States. Tested a good portion of the CP and CN in Canada and, every inch of rail in Mexico. By doing so, I have seen more of this continent than one can imagine. For me, it has been an honor to carry on the work of the greatest inventor no one knows of, Elmer Ambrose Sperry. I am sure Kallend has heard of him. Mr. Sperry's inventions are mostly responsible for what is taken for granted today. He drove the first electric car. Invented the car battery. He is responsible for Naval navigation (Metal Mike) and aerial navigation . Thanks to Elmer, we have General Electric (he sold his patents to Edison which, in turn, morphed into GE, eventually.) http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/theymadeamerica/whomade/sperry_hi.html http://web.mit.edu/invent/iow/sperry.html http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/onthisday/bday/1012.html Some recipients of the Sperry Award http://www.sperryaward.org/recipients.htm Skydivers can thank Elmer Sperry for what he has given us. I am honored to carry on his work to make rail travel safe. The world should thank this man for what he has contributed. For all of that, I would not give up all my years on the rails. I would not change a thing (except for one.) "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
