  1. I have multiple PF suits including V2, V4, Venom, Acro and have never had that problem. People have come into my loft with that problem and it is easy to fix. I would make sure you pull on the lanyard and not the zipper pull itself. And you don't have to yank on it as if you are choking the chicken. I also tell so many people to always open their zippers all the way so they don't get damaged when reaching up for your toggles. I see so many people land with them not open all the way. Goes to show how little awareness there is during the unzipping process. Make it a conscious thing and you should never have any problem with it. Also bring your wrist up, hold the zipper with your other hand in place while you straighten your arm to unzip. Makes it way easier for me to operate the zippers and you can't get your skin or shirt caught in the zipper that way. give it a shot... you'd be surprised.
  2. Luigi Cani jumped the JFX when it was brand new at the 71 way in Elsinore. J. Tagle also jumped one of his bigger Velos but did have a cutaway with it right in front of me :).
  3. You do have a point. Having packed hundreds of these system myself my main worry with this situation lies with it being damaged AFTER the packjob is completed. If there is repeated stress on the cutter during normal or excessive use it would be possible to sever the connection altogether. If the AAD does not register the cutter being severed after its initial boot sequence a jumper could be jumping all day with a non functioning unit.
  4. Aviacom issued a new service bulletin after the investigation by Mr. Camfferman. There is no reason at this point for Aviacom to believe the current cutter design doesn't work. If you have a Wings or Infinity you can still jump your Argus. It is not time for Aviacom to take action but for the parachute industry to acknowledge their mistake and retract the bans.
  5. I strongly disagree about it being a rigging problem, nor a container design issue. Airtec changed the material on the back of the cutter and now this is happening.n it never happened with the old rubber part. Since the unit won't complain about the cutter being disconnected after boot it becomes a big safety issue.
  6. Airtec recommends for cutters to be placed ON TOP of the PC by the manufacturer that implements the Cypres into their rigs. So how can it be a rigging or rig manufacturer's problem if the part doesn't hold up in the recommended location? On another note, does anyone know when Airtec changed the material on the back of the cutter from the rubber to hard plastic?
  7. So let me just ask a question. Given that there are many Cypres 2 out there and many Mirages, how many broken cutters does it take for the manufacturer of that part to take action. Or does it actually take somebody getting hurt for that to happen? If so how many people have to get hurt? I find it curious that one manufacturer gets publicly hung while with another one it just gets swept under the carpet.
  8. I always use a piece of super tack threaded through the flap to pull the cutter through. That's also how they come from Mirage when you get a brand new rig. I have seen this damage on G2, G3 and G4 containers. If it is possible to damage the cutter while pushing on the cable there is something seriously wrong. If it is possible to damage the cutter while closing the rig, then what about the user leaning against it, or packing his main and kneeling on it. What if you drop your rig onto the packing mat. From what I can recall the old Cypres cutters use some kind of rubber sleeve to mate the cable to the cutter. I have seen those pull out but the new Cypres2 cutters are using hard plastic instead. It actually kind of looks like bakelite to me. In any case I think this is a design flaw and damaged cutters should be replaced at no cost to the customer.
  9. the Cypres closing loop is made from Spectra (UHMWPE) which is a PE and has very little elongation. In fact it has less elongation as a stainless steel wire of the same tensile strength. PE is very easy to cut especially when compared to any aramid. The problem with the cylindrical blade is that instead of actually cutting the loop it gets sheared. The filaments of spectra are so thin that it would be possible for them to wedge between the blade and the anvil. Using an aramid in this situation would make matters only worse and actually damage the knife edge during the cutting process.
  10. wow.... I just got done reading through this and I have to say my eyes hurt. So you need a USPA Coach rating to take part in the PFC course. Isn't the Coach rating for teaching people how to teach in the first place. But what you are saying is that YOUR methods are better and you are going to redo it all over again? I have also taught many FFCs and have had good and bad students. Sometimes you can tell before someone goes up and you take the extra time and effort to make sure they'll be alright. But then there is the whole attention span issue. Aren't you over teaching at this point? You guys seem to be forgetting one thing, you are dealing with experienced skydivers here and the skill set a student has at 200 jumps varies greatly. If somebody has 200 RW jumps and no tracking experience he is likely to be a bad candidate for a FFC. I have seen people with 100 jumps that were excellent trackers. I still made them wait until they had 200 jumps though. As for the new PFC course I agree with Glen. Why would anyone spend the money on a rating that I am sure will be obsolete once the USPA adopts a rating for wingsuit coaches. PF seems to have pulled their previous rating once already. Who can guarantee that it's not going to happen again. Please don't get me wrong I am all the way behind the PF products. I have the utmost respect for Robi for being the innovator and pioneer he is and I hope he always will be. PF products are solid and I support Robi all the way. Maybe one day we can all be friends and respect each other. The egos and look-at-me-attitude that is going on in our very small community is very sad. Is it because WS BASE is such a big media buzz right now that some people want to stand out? I don't see any of the WS BASE guys making a fuzz about whose teaching methods are better, they just fly. I know I am going to get so much shit for this post but you guys need to dial it back and listen to us OTHER flyers out there. Glen has a grip on reality! Maybe you should recognize that for a start.

  12. darcon is the brand name for polyester, spectra is the brand name for ultra high molecular weight polyethylene... there are some nylon lines and 550 cord the military uses on rounds. the lines that are shown in the picture of the ad are spectra lines. what year is the canopy manufactured in?
  13. Hey Sergei, I don't get it... YOU are the seller? And where did you get the canopy relined that quickly? Seriously the pics you have in your ad are spectra lines! So now I am just wondering what the problem is and why you are posting here? If the canopy only has 100 jumps on it then it's a factory line set and if the D lines are set too tight that would be a warranty issue due to incorrect assembly. From what I can see in the in-flight pictures the stabilizers look okay to me. Why don't you share the REAL facts now to get some real help buddy!
  14. Why don't you just call Aerodyne and get their opinion? Everytime I had to deal with them so far their customer service was outstanding. Tell them about the canopy and the dacron lines. Since when do dacron D lines only last 100 jumps? Stabilizers set too tight is no good and the fault of whoever relined the canopy last. Some of my older customers are actually moving back to dacron on their canopies because they can really take the bite out of a hard opening. I have seen dacron line kits with more than 1000 jumps on them that are just fine. If you have excessive wear on your D lines changing line material won't change your wear points. In fact going to a micro line from a standard dacron line will probably accelerate wear if nothing else. Were the slider grommets inspected? Are there slider bumpers installed on the links? Do you have a picture of the worn lines?
  15. It greatly depends on the wingsuit, the pilot, passenger weight... I am sure I am leaving stuff out. any way.... look in this month's Parachutist. the WS rodeo there was flying at 73 mph vertically. The camera guy was wearing a WS and there was another guy in a PF tracking suit that could barely stay with it. I guess you never know what to expect on a rodeo. For the big suits.... best to fly what you are used to.

  18. it was [email protected] who is listed on the FAA docket for questions. on the battery issue, if the cypres needs service or batteries before the end of the next cycle, I inform the customer and give him the choice to either do what's necessary now, or if he needs the rig I mark the data card with the component that needs replacement and when.
  19. Hey guys, I really don't understand all the confusion. The FAA couldn't have made this any simpler. What I really don't understand is the reply from Skydive Arizona, they are simply wrong. I emailed the FAA to clear this up last week. I figured hearing it from them I can then educate my customers correctly. Here it is: " The way the rule is written all sport, emergency and reserve parachutes automatically to 180 days on December the 19th. Say the 120 days is December 19th the repack is extended to February 17th. If a parachute reaches the 120 days on December 15th it would be a violation to jump that parachute on the 16th, 17th, or 18th of December. But when the new rule goes into effect you can go back to jumping the parachute on the 18th of December and its repack date becomes the 13th of February. This rule makes no changes with the AAD's. Say the battery come due before the repack is due it still has to be replace on schedule. 91.307 (a)(1) and 105.43 (a) were changed to take the repack for the mains to 180 day. The 180 days does apply to tandem parachutes. 105.45 (b)(2) states you have to repack the reserve parachute used in a tandem system in accordance with 105.42 (b) which is 180 days."
  20. you can do that. get an Infinity and order for a bigger reserve. the first number on an Infinity is the reserve tray and the second number is the main tray. so if you buy an I-33 it's for a PDR143 and a 150 main. if you buy an I-43 it's for a 160 reserve and a 150 main and so on. you could get an I-65 or I-54.

SIM stands for "Skydiver's Information Manual". the purpose of a freebag is so you can't have a horseshoe on your reserve. even if the bridle would entangle with your body it still comes off the canopy and just trails after that. I also believe that is standard material in your AFF class. pay attention guys.... it might some day save your life.
