  1. Hi mOOdy, Don't forget your RIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take it anyway, you may get the chance to jump. Remember, Jumping is just like Sex, every one you pass up is one more you ain't gonna' get!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. Hi there 986, Funny about Loadstalls, they have problems on the ground as well as in the air!!!! Drag your brain back to the SCR Stumbles, Elsinore, Labor Day Weekend '75. Besides the Beeches and Howards in attendance, someone brought in a "Loadstall!!" I think it was Larson and Schaffer's from Casa Grande (anyone remember for sure who???) Anyway, we're having fun at the Stumbles and there is a wind change now "to the lake" so the airplanes taxi down to the far end and takeoff toward the hanger!! 'Twas fun, people would get in the middle of the "approach" between the hanger and the ghetto cheering as the planes tookoff and passed overhead!!! I was hanging out at the old covered packing tables talking to Chuck Knight and his girlfriend Cissy when the Loadstall comes by the gaspumps at high speed, brakes screeching and smoking, people scattering out of its' way and comes to a stop just inches from the chain fence!!!! The jumpers in the plane make a mad dash exit "And Do A Ground Star!!!" Pandemonium insues and the Loadstall is the center of attention!! On takeoff run (lake to hanger) at about Vmc (the speed at which the aircraft is suppose to fly with the {critical} engine out!!)[yeah right!!] the Loadstall blew a jug "just" before liftoff or thereabouts!!!!!! The pilots did a great job stopping the plane and thank the almighty nobody got hurt!!! The Reaper swung hard on that one!! Or was it only a practice swing?? That was the end of the Loadstall jumps for the Stumbles. I have some slides (35mm) I took right after the plane stopped. I'll try to get them scanned or whatever and post them. Any hot tips on how to repro slides to disc ?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi Stretch, Had "2" not "1" but "2" rigging tool kits stolen from me also!! Really sux!! Fortunately my Log and seal press were separate so they didn't get those!! When they broke into my Econoline they tore up the dash to get the stereo (their primary goal) and just grabbed the rest of the stuff for fun. Funny thing, my Dragonfly and Vector was "unpacked" and piled up in back and "THEY LEFT IT!!!!!" I also had an R/C sailplane they left but stole the Transmitter???? Only thing I could figure out is they thought it was some kind of "Walkie-talkie!!" Really Dumb!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  4. Hi DC, Fartsarelli was at least 17 when he died of old age. I now have Fuzzy who is 15 and going strong. Anglefood McSpade is 10, Lucky is 5 and Jethro is 3. Cats cats live quite a while if they are cared for. Sounds like your kitty will be with you for a good while. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  5. Hi Hot, Yeah, what ever happened to, "Having Fun!?" "Are we having FUN yet?" "If you are having fun, you are doing it right!" There are those jumpers who are around a lot, jump with everyone and appear to be the main stream around the dz. They have fun. Then there are/were those jumpers who showed up in the spring, got on some hot shot we're-going-to-the-nationals team, jumped their butts off, (never did a FUN jump!!), went to the nationals and then never showed up at the dz till next spring!!! (begin cycle over again) Oh yes, you never got to jump with them! These people are competition oriented in everything they do! If they are not competition skydiving, they're playing competition tennis or downhill speed skiing!!! Meanwhile back at the ranch, the rest of us "Fun Jumpers" go about our DZ having fun. Sometimes, the mystique of these comp. people invades the psyche of some fun jumpers and they try to emulate these comp. people. It can get neurotic!!! Skydiving skills need practice to stay sharp. Yes! Good skills and a heads up attitude = a safer skydive! But if you can't enjoy what you are doing you might need to think about why you're doing it. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  6. HI law, "My" BEER is slowly aged in Louisiana Cypress wood barrels, brewed with crystal clear water, genuine barley malt, choice hops select grains and pure yeast. "My" BEER is "DIXIE" from New Orleans, my favorite. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  7. Hi lost, Double check your alti. against the one in the plane and the ones other jumpers around you on your way to altitude. Pay special attention at 2500', 3500' and notice what theground looks like at these alts. If it works on the way up without "sticking" (you shouldn't have to thump it to move!!!) it should work on the way down!! Get a "Reaper Beeper," "Dirt Alert" or some audible alt also. Remember!! All these whistles and bells are just "For Reference ONLY!!!!" Bottom line,"When in doubt, whip it out!!!!" Famous last words to your guardian angel on the other side of the white light,"But my altimeter said I was at 4000'!!!! Really!!!" The sky is NOT the limit, the ground is. 9. Hi Slappie, Sorry to hear about Fatcat. Over the years, a lot of cats as well as a few dogs have always been around my (their!!) house. My "Fartsarelli" was around for over 17 years before he passed. Today I live with 4 cats. They are our best friends. Peace. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Hey 986, C...Puff.....!!!! Club? Are you kidding? Cardinal puff is legendary! Kinda' like "Big John," "Nobody knew where John called home?..." Legend around the fire pit has it that Cardinal Puff type games have been around since "Roman" times.... maybe Roman Candle....(another name for a streamer).....For sure at the old Rumble Seat Tavern in Hermosa Beach, 530 Pacific Coast Hwy., H.B., Ca. Phone FRontier4-9587. "Skydiving movies weds. nite., Cardinal Puff Demos anytime, and skindiving movies thurs. nites. The place was run by Frank and Willie. Back in the daze B-4 video's the camera guys shot 16mm movie and 35mm still's. On Monday after the Sunday before, they'd drop their film off to be processed (if they had a deal with someone and they were luckey they got it back on Tuesday or maybe Wed. aftn.) and showed up at the Rumbleseat on Wednesday night!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we knew who made the Star!!!! Instant replay video's..thesedays!!!. ....Drink...up...hang the glass on your lip until you finish......Iron Clad? Who's Iron Clad? Does anyone remember "Iron Clad Cardinal??" Once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal!! And also the "Rumble Seat" at old Elsinore run by Dick and Marilyn Webb?????? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  11. Hey speedy, As far as posting a "similar list about 'yankees'" all I can say is,"WHO CARES?????" And as far as what ever ribbing you want to direct against us "Southerners," "Rednecks," "White Trash" or whatever else you want to call us, I still love my "GRITS!!!!!!!!!" "Girls Raised In The South!!!!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  12. H speedy again, Did you call up Jeff Foxworthy and apologize?? Let's see, South, Southerner!!, hey man you're talkin' 'bout "REDNECKS!!!!" and/or maybe "WHITE TRASH!!!!" One thing 'bout you yankees as Brother Dave Gardner used to say,"Ya' never hear of anyone retirin' to the North!!" Go ahead and cut your funny's about Rednecks, White Trash, Billy Bob and Bubba. But when it comes to "Southern," you have no clue. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi Whuf, MEMEMEMEMEMEEMEMEMOOOHHHHH.....sKygangs, clubs, loosely knit groups of people who jump out of airplanes, drink hugh quantities of alcohol and somehow have some common bond?? No one has mentioned "Air Trash" yet!!! Go to www.airtrash.com SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi there Speedy, Yeah, I remember that it rained a lot where I grew up and we had this really long front yard. When I got old enough to reach the handles on the lawnmower, I got to PUSH it thru the lawn. Didn't have one of those high falutin' riding kind. Well dude, I never found no damn car when I cut our grass but I'm still from the SOUTH!!! Hammond, Louisiana, home of Southland SkyDivers and the FIRST Mardi Gras Boogie!! (If there was one somewhere else I don't remember) SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Thanks Sparky!, I stand corrected. Things were sure happening fast for those few seconds! Thanks again to "Bad man Bennet!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. Hi MT, Read chaoskitty's post a few down, she sums it up to the "T!" As for snappy comebacks for these skydiver/whuffo encounters, perhaps someone can start a thread to find out which comebacks work the best, etc. Whenever a whuf confronts me about my skydiving,"Man that's dangerous, you can get killed, man that's unsafe...drone...drone..!!" "How long you been doin' that skydiving stuff???" When I say,"40 years." There's usually a short silence. They can't figure out how come I'm not dead yet!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. See the Video!!!!!!!!!!! Sinko-D-Mayo (05MAY85) ScareusValley, Fielding Fiasco (Night) Forty-way Attempt Sunset Practice Load!!!! N157Undertaker DC-3 and the Twin otter A/C involved. 57U is suppose to take off first and the otter will "catchup!!" Jerry Spencer is videoing a student on a tandem. Lots of ground shots and then we get to the plane. As was common back then, Jerry gets in the door and begins to film the takeoff. We taxi out to the north side of the runway all the way to the end out in the dirt. Skip turns 57U around and starts the takeoff roll. Jerry is filming from the door. I'm up by the bulkhead sitting by the left side window watching the action. The engines are singing, we're picking up speed and then BANG SPUTTER SPUTTER LOTS OF ORANGE (FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) The left engine is broken free from the mount just hanging by some wires and cables and it's on fire. Skip shuts everything down and we roll to a stop. Everyone keeps their cool and Al Krueger is by the door taking charge saying, "You out, you out, you out...) came my turn, I was gone!! We ran out into the field and within what seemed like no time at all everyone was out!!! The plane was now engulfed in flames, Jerry is still out in the field with the camera still runing!!!!! You really have to see the video!!!!!!!! After it rains, if you walk out to just past the end of the asphalt where 57U burned you may still find pieces of the melted aluminum in the dirt. Kick around, you'll find something. Then look down the runway to the south. If we had gotten off the ground before the engine blew, ...............?????? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. It really doesn't matter where, when, how or whatever when you die, as long as when it is over you can say,..........."What was that!" We won't really know till we get there. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi Stevie, Low passes, Fly By's, Gear Checks!! Yahoo!!! 'Back in '95 there was this armada of WWII vintage Aircraft, Mustangs to B-17's that mustered up in So. Cal. and made their way X-C the U.S. to comemorate the 50th anniv.of the end of WWII. Well, one sunday aftn. at Elsinore I notice a B-17 and a B-24 cruising south along the ridgeline of the Ortega's. About the time they get just past the DZ, I hear the engines pick up RPM's and the lead plane starts to bank in the direction of the DZ. All us jumpers start running out to the runway yelling, "BUZZ JOB, BUZZ JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!" The planes come barreling down the runway heading toward the lake and,"we MOONED them!!!!!!!!" Whoever was in manifest (I think it was Kathy) was on the radio and said,"Aircraft overflying Elsinore, we didn't get a good look for your 'gear check' could you make another pass?" They were out over the lake, did nice 180 degree heading changes and came back!!! We Mooned them again!!!!!!!! What fun!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Right on John!!! I was on the second pass and it was great!! 05JAN85 and it was a beautyful blue sky day. What was fun too was there was this bunch of surfers hanging out on the beach trying to look "COOL" with their shorty john wet suits and Varnay sunglasses and some cutie surf chicks with them WHEN we, Air Trash, came bombing out of the sky landing on "their" beach and we just took their Cool away from them!! Oh what fun! Then the "Fly By" as you said!!!!!! What a great time!!!! Salt Creek (the name of the cove they built the Ritz Carlton on) will never be the same!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. And for #42 (unless sombody else posted in the meantime then it's the next) "Fishing and drinking beer just don't go together!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  23. OK, DZ.com cook book!! Well here's a quick recipe for all to try and it's easy!! Two things I know that Skydivers like is Beer and Bread , so...... "BEER BREAD" 1. Turn on oven, set to 350 degrees F. 2. Get a Med-Lg mixing bowl and put in 3 cups of "SELF RISING" (not plain) Flour. 2 tablespoons of sugar (Just plain old sugar) 1 twelve oz. bottle/can of your favorite BEER!!! 3. Mix up the flour and sugar and pour in the beer a little at a time. If the mix seems a little on the dry side, add a little more beer from another bottle and drink the rest. 4. Get a bread pan, 9" size seems to work well but you can improvise. Spray some Pam or the like in the pan (you can also use some butter or margerine instead) Put the dough in the pan and bake (350 degrees) for about an hour. 5. Right before you take it out of the oven, melt some butter and pour it on top of the crust. 6. ENJOY!!! If any gets left over, slice it and toast it with some butter!!! Let us know how you like it!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  24. The Wrights had the 14, 2 rows of 7. The Pratt & Whitney's were the 7 cyl. (I believe 985 cu. in. disp. producing 450 H.P.). The orange banana at Perris had the Wrights on it. Since Skydiving operations spend most of their engine time climbing, the single row Pratts are preferred over the double row Wrights as the back row of cyls. tend to overheat on those long climbs to 12.5K. Most all Skydiving DC-3's, Beech 18's and Howard DGA-15's had P&W's on them. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  25. "Chills" "That icy feeling up your spine!!!" It's like a jolt of electricity! YES!! How about some "Security?" Try an old BA-22 vest type harness with a 28' round somethingoranother and a chest reserve with the belly band pulled so tight you can hardly breath!! Heheheheheheh, feel secure? Now try to move! Contemporary skydiving gear is generally good stuff. Comfortable , secure and it works, when in the hands of a "competent" user! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
