  1. After two years away from the sport I’m finally back. Did four jumps while on vacation last week. Starting Skydive University next month. I missed it, and I wont get out of currency again! My Question: Since my rig needed a reserve repack and AAD batteries I rented gear. After jumping the inside of both my biceps were bruised to hell. Instead of arching after pulling I did reach up in order to grab the risers as soon as they were out. Also the shoulder straps seemed to be out a little more than what I’m used to. Any ideas on what caused this and how to prevent it? 2. I'm having a routine physical in a couple of hours from now. Do I just need a letter from my doctor giving me a go ahead to jump or is there some downloadable form he needs to fill out? Thanks for the quick response. I'm leaving at 1:20 EST. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  3. I’m just glad to see that there are so many out there who either don’t believe or are not sure. It just doesn’t make sense to me for many reasons. Unfortunately I’m a very small minority among those I know, and it kind of pisses me off. Not that they believe, but that they know they are right and I am the idiot for trying to have and honest, open and analytical mind toward the subject. This attitude is seldom directly expressed but implied by their actions or comments. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth

    PISA

Ned is great. I bought a used PISA COE-D and had some questions about it. He replied quickly and (I feel) went out of his way to pull out old manufacturing records to give me precise info on it. Was very nice especially since I was not buying from them. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  5. It does have a Cypres in it. The DOM and battery install date was 8/01. Sounds like I should pop the reserve and take out the AAD even though it is relatively new and not due for a battery change till 8/03. Is that correct? thanks “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  6. yes, A39180 That would have been my choice, was out of my control. When I get back I do plan on staying there. I did AFF. A level 3, then 4, then 7 does sound good. Thanks. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  7. I'm sure they would have let me done this, but they went out of business. (Pittsburgh Skydive Center) Next spring I will call up some other DZs in the area, but it would have been nice to do this with the guys that trained me from day one. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  8. Because of some things that went on this last summer, I never got a chance to jump. When I go back this spring it will have been about 18 months. Beside the obvious check out jump, what would be a good plan of action to get back to old skill level? (preferably without spending $K on Skydive University, freefall tunnel camp, etc.) I have 31 jumps over two years with a third year away from sport. (way out of currency) Thanks in advance for any advice. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  9. Because of some things that went on last summer, I never had a chance to jump the used rig I bought. It was packed in March of this year and has basically been sitting in a corner of my house since then. I want to leave it this way till next spring when I’ll have it repacked. Do any of you riggers see a problem with this? I’d rather not mess with disassembling it. I only have an A license. Thanks in advance for any advice. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  10. Got this in a mailing from the USPA: Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance for Skydivers $25K to $100K insurance for $60 to $240/year underwritten by Federal Insurance Company for info 1-877-535-2682 P.S. I’m not endorsing this in any way, though I am thinking of enrolling. I’m just passing this along FYI. USPA does endorse it. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  11. Gianni, I looked but could not find the poll. Which thread is it under?
  12. Neil, Sorry to hear about your situation with DZ closing and not finished with AFF. Would you mind telling me which DZ you were going to? I used to go to Pittsburgh Skydive Center in Connellsville, but that too will be closed after this year. I just want to find out what DZ's WILL be open next year. I'm thinking of going to the one in Grove City from now on. Larry Latrobe, PA (pls email me if you don’t want to mention the DZ’s name in this forum)
  13. Thanks everyone for the advice, I decided not to go with them after all. I'm going to wait till I get a few more coached jumps with this new looser fitting suit to see if I can correct my problems through technique alone. If I can’t correct the fall rate after acquiring B or C skill level, I'll go for the best big guy suit I can find with swoop cords. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  14. Called Paul at Para Gear again to get clarification. They are flaps (or wings or whatever you want to call them) with swoop cords exactly as Deuce and Viking described. He explained to me a little better than last time exactly how they work. Thanks all for the input. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  15. Good idea, I sent them an email and will post it as soon as I get it. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  16. Right, that is a seperate option. That's why I'm trying to figure out exactly what these wings are and if they will benifit me and are right for my skill level. Thanks “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  17. I’m 6’0” 240lbs and am trying to buy a better suit to slow my fall rate enough for RW. When I called to order they gave me a list of the options that would help best: medium weight polycotton, standard cut as opposed to trim etc. Lastly he recommended I get wings on it. Since I only have an A license I’m hesitant to follow his advice. How hard would it be to get use to it? Are there any more dangers or procedures that one needs to be aware of? I assume this is common on heavy jumpers and is not the same thing as a “wingsuit” which is only used by advanced jumpers? I’d appreciate any clarification you can give me on this. Thanks.
  18. Does anyone know of a place that does porosity testing on canopies? Thanks, “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  19. I think one of them is going to die. “Now click your heels together 3 times so you can return to Kansas to live in poverty with your teetotaling, dirt farming aunt and uncle!” paraphrased Prof. Farnsworth
  20. Is there any distinct reason to store your rig by having it hang from it’s shoulder straps rather than just having it rest on the BOC on a shelf in a dark corner of the house? (other than it looks better)
  21. Just wondering if you had time to do this? I keep looking back hoping to see it 'cause I too was told the excess bridle goes in the PC. Larry Error in REALITY.SYS - Reboot Universe? ([Y]/N) _

    Depressed

I did a ride up and back down as a student (clouds moved in) with no charge. I'm not sure what they would do if the same thing happened now (non student). This is at a smaller DZ though. Larry Error in REALITY.SYS - Reboot Universe? ([Y]/N) _

  24. Great post Sandy! Glad the malfunction caused no problems for you.
  25. I live near where another plane went in on 9/11 in Somerset, PA. This was the same scenario. Think it crashed at near full throttle or something going straight down. Many people saw it crash, but beside a crater in the ground, there was not much stuff left that was larger than your hand. No large pieces at all. Larry Error in REALITY.SYS - Reboot Universe?
