  1. Just one more comment. I'll bet almost every person that has caused an accident with this kind of behavior felt they were skilled enough not to. It's tempting to say just remove all the rules and instructions and let natural selection take it's course, except for all the innocents that would also be taken out. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  2. I'm about as non-PC as it gets, but this has nothing to do with PC. It's about responsibility and the consequences of behavior. Using "I can't" also belies a victimhood mentality. If you do not race in a sanctioned environment, it is because you choose not to, not because you can not do it. If a person chooses to become a skydiving instructor or a computer programmer instead of a motorcycle racer, then they should live responsibly with that choice. Choosing not to become a racer in sanctioned events and then saying "I can't" is not taking ownership of personal choices. 3. If one side is bad, the other automatically has to be good...if not, life gets too complicated. Life, and life, is complicated. Pretending it is simple, and that there are simple answers (especially from people who think they have them all) is the root of all evil. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  4. He didn't hurt anybody...just broke a stupid law. Can't believe you are in favour of a law that is in place to protect people from possible actions. There are quite a few people who are very capable of handling motorcycles at that speed quite safely. Speeding laws are laws to create safety from possible negligent actions of others. So you think we shouldn't even have speed limits? There's a mindset whose judgement is totally untrustworthy. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  5. I voted W because he is running the country like it is his own personal belonging. He doesn't OWN the country - he is supposed to be administering, not operating for personal gain. Abortion is a great example. Even though roughly 3 out of 4 citizens think abortion should be legal, he is doing everything he can to enable the anti-abortion foes to make it illegal. Also, his actions based on religious conviction are only one-step short of the Reagan's consulting an Astrologer. Reagan comes in a close 2nd also for thinking launched nukes could be recalled. Can you believe we had an Alzheimers patient with his finger on the button, who thought the missles could be recalled?! Why don't more people see that the conservative accumulation-of-wealth wackos are just as dangerous as the liberal whirled-peas wackos? 6. I see no way that a person can guarantee they aren't endangering someone else that might also have decided to go out into the country. It's just rationalization for people that are too lazy or petulant or unskilled enough to join a racing club/team. What's wrong with racing on controlled courses and leaving public roads to those that obey the law? (we're not talking about going 70 in a 60, we're talking about asshats going 120+ just because they feel like it. Well on a flat out 10 mile stretch with no intersections and no one in sight. I say blast it up to 140 if you choose to accept the danger you put yourself in. I guess you don't think those conditions ever exist? They exist rarely at best. Maybe the salt flats? And do you really expect the rest of the people on the road to entrust the person who wants to go that fast with the judgement to know when it is safe to do so? Quite simply is it a contradiction in terms I did the superfast stuff a few times back in my 20's. Really not very well thought out now that I look back on it. I can only take consolation in the fact I never got killed or killed anybody else. Too bad there are a whole bunch of people who are not alive to be able to say the same thing. I understand that not all people have the same skills, but skill-based licensing isn't reasonable. ("OK sir. you get the class A3/1-4CA.77C1/no tel-POL, which means you can drive a passenger car as fast as 180 MPH as long as you are alone in the car, on at least a 4 lane controlled access freeway, have a car equipped with the attached list of technologies, it's daylight, there are no cars within 1 mile, there's no precipitation, you're not on the phone, and you say please before you put the keys in the ignition). If you want to race, go race. It's probably cheaper in the long run to go sportsman racing. 7. As situations change should not a good leader adjust his/her position/time table/plan of attack? I am not talking just about Bush. Or should you set a time table and stick with it even as things change? Very fair question; and yes, EVERYONE should remain open to change and the possibilities it offers. The problem is that this administration has executed so poorly and made such ineffective initial decisions, that they will not get out of the hole they are in. Funny thing is, with such poor performance, real change could have been a way out; but instead they have dug in their heels with a stay-the-course mentality. This has to be the worst administration in my lifetime when it comes to imposing their own personal values on our citizenry. I thought they were supposed to represent us; not say whatever it takes to get elected and then impose their divinely inspired personal goals on all of us. It's very good to see the number of people fed up with it is growing. 8. I don't understand the strong negative reactions to this stuff. Snopes hardly repudiates the information, just nit-picks at details for the most part. So there are a few percentage points diffeence here and there, no big deal, and as Snopes points out, some of this stuff is very hard to pin down (especially the cultural stuff like race and religion). The point of the list is to draw attention to disparity and extremes; i.e. - that half the population of the world does suffer from malnutrition, that wealth is extremely concentrated, and so on and so forth. Such statements and what they might mean must be threatening to some people. 9. Soupy, chunky, pasty - or a nice medley. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  10. Frysbetarianism. It's when your soul gets stunk on the garage roof. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  11. Standard conspiracy buff response: The eyewitnesses, black boxes and dead passengers were all planted by government agents; or, are stories planted by government agents; and if you disagree or bring forth contradictory arguements, you are a government disinformnation agent yourself. 12. and they get up and go to work, just like theyre told, every day, right on time, dont question anything just do your job and shut you mouth. i like how you equate ones current residence w/ amount of knowledge yeah. like noam chomsky.... mit professor, total whacko right? this shit fucking disgusts me. people who are so goddam colsed minded disgust me... sometimes this whole fucking country disgusts me.... people say bush is dumb... they are wrong... I don't get the reference to Chomsky. The guy is a genius. People may not agree with his politic leanings, but he is dead right on in his political analysis. And yes, geniuses can do that (have a personal opinion AND be stone cold objective in their analysis). In fact, I would say if you only had the time to read one book on the topic, it should be Power and Terror. It is the most matter of fact, cold hard look at how nations treat each other. If you like your cold hard facts mixed with a touch of drama, try Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. 13. Yes, an Airplane hitting the Pentagon at over 500mph can vaporize. This has been debated and debunked so many times it's sad that some still perpetuate this myth. You can't win this one based on evidence because conspiracy buffs simply counter that the evidence is a cover-up. Crop circles are a great example. The people making them, and many of their copy-cats have been caught. They confessed. They did demos to show how they did them. It's all out in the open for any person with functioning frontal lobes to see. And yet the true believers still believe. And the experts they parade out to support their claims. YOWZA! Good example was a show I watched with my kids on Yeti, Bigfoot, etc. The believers expert is some guy sitting in a really dark office with some sort of dungeons and dragons decorative motif. He's wearing a purple velvet cape and some sort of Satan's cross around his neck. He's as much a nutcase as the bigfoot in the film is a man in a gorilla suit. An awful lot of people are gullible by design. A great read to understand this phenomena is Shermer's Why People Believe Weird Things. 14. Because sheep are easily seduced. Not that there's anything wrong with that. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  15. Make up your mind. Was it the frustrated masses of the world giving us what we deserve for raping their culture and pillaging their resources (or is it pillaging their culture and raping their resources?), or . . . Was it our own government bringing down the citadel of their own financial largese in order to . . . you lost me. Either way, if you are gonna choose a lunatic fringe conspiracy, please stick with it. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  16. You need to buy one of everything. That's right, one of everything they sell - in the whole damn place, except for maybe the femine hygiene products, and that crappy brand of generic cheetos they sell. Can't stand those. Then have everything delivered to my house. Then go back to the store and listen for the next message. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  17. The biggest credibility problem with stuff like this is that it has mostly the same followers as Planet X, astrology, crop circles, UFO's, mediums & mindreaders, pyramid power, homeopathy, Noah's Ark, Santa Claus, the Illuminati, the harmonic concordance of planetary alignments, and on and on ad nauseum. Well OK, Santa is for real. But the rest is bad affiliation if you want someone to take you seriously. 18. How about if they're deep-fried and spread with raspberry jam and powdered sugar? Wendy W. Wanna get really grossed out? My daughters eat them right out of the garden. Gets rid of that complaint about being mushy. 19. Ever try the pickled ones. They're awesome. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  20. Amen on Johny Cash. Gotta be the dead musician I most wish I would have seen perform. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  21. I have a friend who has collected quite a bit of this kind of video. Some of them are really over the top and truly make you squirm. If you want to find them, just go out and google things like combat video, combat footage, sniper killings, etc... " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  22. I suppose it depends on what you consider intrusion versus protection. We obviously are OK (I hope most people are OK) with laws that make it illegal to shoot someone, even in a private establishment. Yes, that is an exteme example, but clearly there is not a priciple that we adhere to that says you can do whatever you want in a private establishment. Same with building codes. It is illegal to lay 220 volt 200 amp bare wires across the floor; even though people are free to spend their money elsewhere. Same with food preparation. It is against code to store raw meat at room temperature. Buyer beware is not enough protection in many things. Smoking is a definite health risk with serious consequences. Nothing wrong with rules about these kinds of things. I knew someone would bring this up. Hell, I almost did it myself.
  23. Glad to hear you are Jeff again. How often are you somebody other than Jeff? (Couldn't resist. Well, I could but I didn't). 24. Try www.despair.com The section on Demotivators has a lot of great posters. I like many of them, but a couple of my favorites: CLUELESSNESS - There are no stupid questions, but a lot of inquisitive idiots. (Pile of bulbs, with only one lit). AMBITION - Sometimes a journey of a thousand miles can end very, very badly. (Salmon being munched by a bear). They are a hoot, and there's gotta be a couple skydiving posters in there somewhere. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  25. And that ain't no accident. Or, as I've said to a few of my friends when the topic comes up and someone says "We're so lucky to have met," my reply is always that it is no accident. We seek out healthy relationships. To all my friends - it is no accident that we have found each other and that we are friends. I could have stopped at the one sentence. Sometimes I am a very windy person.
