  1. This is long overdue, but I need to get water training completed to qualify for my B license. What does this involve? Where do I go for this training? I jump at Perris and occasionally during the summer I see Jim Wallace offering a course in water training. Is there anyone else out there other than Jim doing this? Is there any courses during the winter months? Thanks, J.P.
  2. This is the single greatest thread I have ever read on this entire Fu$%ING website. You're genius! Cheers, J.P.
  3. oh and here's my 2 cents: Vanillaskygirl and Kelel01. . . . . .very hot. Cheers, J.P.
  4. Is maturity necessarily a good thing? --------------------------------------------------- Absolutely not!! Totally unacceptable.
  5. >How do you perform controlled tests for attempting this? 1. Learn to ski jump, and the art of flying with skis on. 2. Get a small wingsuit and try the same. 3. Go to larger and larger wingsuits while learning to fly both the suit and the skis. 4. Start gliding further and further. 5. Once you can sustain a fixed glideslope and still land safely, try it from an airplane over a very large landing area. Bail by 1000 feet if you're not on glideslope (use a VASI system to make sure you're on slope.) ----------------------------------------------------------- I like this idea. Sounds very logical to me. cheers, J.P.
  6. Isn't that what they said about flying a square parachute? Isn't that what they said about jumping off of cliffs and into caves and off of antennea and bridges? Isn't that what they said about throwing yourself or someone else out of a perfectly good airplane? ----------------------------------------------------------- True. And I guess I should have more specificly qualified my statement by saying that I think it absurd the idea of landing a wingsuit on "flat ground" without a parachute. All of the activities you mention involve parachutes. I think testing parachutes is much easier than testing whether a human being can land without a parachute. I do believe it's possible to land a wingsuit on a snow slope. With enough fresh snow on the right slope, it's possible. I have been skiing my whole life and have hucked very big cliffs landing at speeds well over 60 mph. In my mind the trajectory would be similar on a wingsuit, not the same, but similar. One key difference is that on skis you already have your legs/feet out in front of you to serve as a shock absorber. But landing a wingsuit on flat ground, with the current wingsuit designs I have seen, no way. How do you perform controlled tests for attempting this? It's not like you can put a dummy in a winsuit like you could a parachute. I understand that Luigi is going to flying a small parachute next to Jeb and all that, but if they are to do a flat ground landing at some point, Jeb will need to take that thing ultra low to determine whether it's realistic. Now I will say that I have never done a wingsuit BASE jump and therefore have never taken a wingsuit ultra low. Jeb most likely has. Perhaps that in and of itself shoots down all of us nay sayers!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Regardless, good luck to Jeb and Luigi. . . .I hope they prove me wrong. Cheers, J.P.
  7. I'm with Quade; this landing of a wingsuit idea is absolutely absurd. I just have really bad feeling about the whole thing.
  8. In Reply To: If skydiving didn't exist I would play Bop It Extreme a lot. --------------------------------------------------------- Bop It! is the shit! I can't believe you know about that. Ha ha. Cheers, J.P.
  9. Yep. That sucks. Just had ACL/meniscus surgery last spring (April 29th). It was tough. Make sure you take your rehab seriously. If it's any inspiration at all, I was back jumping 6 weeks after my surgery. Granted I was flyging a 230 and sliding my landings, but it was better than nothing.
  10. I would if I had it. However you might be interested in another album have called Jimi "Himself". If you haven't already heard it, it's pretty bad ass. It's just Jimi, a guitar, and a microphone. In fact, there's a really cool version of Gypsy Eyes on there where you can actually hear a phone ringing in the background. Cheers, J.P.
  11. Replying to: "easy one... BASE jumping oh its the only thing i do at this point..." Stay safe Stefan Faber ------------------------------------------------------ yeah amen to that!! It's on my list of things to this spring. J.P.
  12. I have to agree with you here. I really love skiing; whether it's hitting the big lines of the backcountry or the good resorts like Jackson Hole!! Skiing definately gives me a really big buzz. There's nothing like hitting the Jackson or Targhee on one those big pow days when the sun is out. Unreal. Not to mention the most beautiful place on earth when the sun gets tired, and the snow turns that light-orange alpenglow color. Way-o to that Billy. Cheers, J.P.
  13. It's seldom that I meet other skydivers who aren't involved in other sports/activities. I actually consider skydiving an alternate to my favorite sport: Alpine rock/ice climbing. In my mind, I skydive because it gives me a similar buzz to that which I feel when I am up high on a steep pitch of ice. I am curious to know what other people out there would do, if they didn't have skydiving as an option? Cheers, J.P.
  14. "The City of God" Really cool true story about a journalist's life growing up in a crime infested Rio De Janero slum. Very good movie. Not sure if Blockbuster will have it, but it's worth a shot.
  15. Yes you are correct. I actually have about 300+ skydives now. I am looking to take an FJC in Potato Land this spring. I would like to show up there with equipment that is suitable. No I have not mastered any canopy. I currently skydive a Sabre 2 170 and the FOX 225. I have been working with a canopy coach. As far jump locations. . . . .I plan on the Potato Bridge first then I'll be open to suggestions from other more experienced BASE jumpers. Thanks for the info Pope. Ps. Continuum 2 was fucking great. Cheers, J.P.
  16. I recently bought a FOX 225 that has 20 BASE jumps on it. I weigh about 165 lbs. Is this canopy too small for me? I have heard differing opinions about it. Some people tell me it's boderline (ie. I could probably jump a bridge like the one in potato land and be fine), whereas others tell me not such a good idea. If it is too small, then what size should I jump? 265? 285? You make the call. Cheers, Bigwall
  17. Thank you! Just the type of answer I was looking for. Cheers, J.P.
  18. Just curious. . . . . . what do the more experienced BASE jumpers out there think about taking an FJC in Norway? Is the Potato bridge a better choice? Cheers, Bigwall
  19. Damn that was well said Nick!
  20. I think you mean that he time to watch his "free bag?" Not a main canopy. . . . .
  21. Have to agree with Zennie here, big time. Let's face it, the new wave philosophy in BASE is to provide positive examples of why our sport should be legal in more places. It looks especially bad when someone, let alone a veteran of many years, tries a stunt of this nature. It only provides legal ammo for those who are opposed to legalizing BASE sites. Perhaps the most frustrating thing about Robin's accident, is that he is a veteran of BASE. If he chose to do this at a quiet site with himself and a few friends, I can't say that I would support this type of stunt, but I would not cast scrutiny upon it. I am new to BASE, but I know from reading this forum that this stunt was selfish and poorly timed. . . .get well soon Robin. J.P.
  22. yep. Pretty funny. Saw it at 7:00 am this morning. What's even funnier is that CNN is making it out as it is "just another" parachuting incident, when it is clearly a BASE incident in the eyes of other jumpers. Glad he's okay. keep it safe out there folks, J.P.
