  1. We aren't but those just 30-40 years younger might be. Too many people in the world seem happy with the idea of authoritarianism. Trump was, and is, simply a single feature of that in America. People also rejoice over an authoritarian Republican party and an authoritarian Supreme Court. Apparently, it's what people want moving forward.
  2. Too bad they're still counting people of colors at 3/5ths per. Sort of screws up the theory.
  3. Sure, like Manchin and Sinema voting to end the filibuster to codify Roe? The power to win is in the hands of the Democrats now and Manchin is believing he can get 10 R Senators, (and Sinema), to give up voluntarily what they spent 50 years fighting to get. The situation is all but hopeless.
  4. Be homeless, sleep under trees along the highway, suffer throughout the day and generally be ignored by everyone else? You know, just like the half million Americans who have bravely shown the way.
  5. That bit really got to me. First I simply felt terrible for those women and then, later on, I added seriously angry to the stew. We are in such an awful place in this country now. I for one don't really care to hear from Brent on this. No doubt he'll focus on the gofundme set-up to give them some help and peace and speculate that a nexus exists between Shaye, Lady Ruby and BLM.
  6. Why weren't you on the January 6th Capitol tour? Seems to me that such an outing would be right up your alley.
  7. There was no mention of contraception in the Magna Carta.
  8. We who have the ability to see ahead and can facilitate the protection of those we love in the face of the new normal must do so. It's no different than any of the other solutions we figure out and never discuss.
  9. And such a brave policy, it is. So how did the announcing email read? "Hey, all y'all's, this new abortion law thing is especially mas no bueno for some of our employees and we get it! So, we are going to take a fraction of what we save by having our corporate tax domicile located here in Talibanland and offer free bus transport to a more abortion enlightened, but less tax friendly for us, state. Please don't take note of the fact that your abortion benefit is less costly to us than the ridiculous child care benefit you wanted." Am I close?
  10. The important point is that a significant percentage of the US population is thinking that this is all fantastic and worthy of celebration. I live in a liberal state, at least in the more populated areas, so things will mostly just continue on as usual. But there is nothing homogenous about the US electorate. Even in the reddest of states many blue types live, often concentrated in cities like Austin, Texas. They, like others like them elsewhere, will suffer from the intentions this regime. So what to do? Well, I think they should be coming unglued, raising holy hell, and be willing to suffer however it comes. All of them, in every red state. But they won't, I'll wager. They'll wait for the blue state folk to do something. That's my guess.
  11. Negative. Too many knuckle draggers who pretend to be enlightened, and open to the obvious truth, will do as they always do in the privacy of the voting booth and just not be comfortable with a female President. If Trumps election didn't make that apparent I have know idea what will. Look, it completely, totally sucks, and is as wrong as wrong can be but it is also reality: we need two centrist white males as candidates and, even then, an unlikely amount of good fortune.
  12. They saw that 25 years ago and set up the fight today.
  13. Absolutely. And isn't it ironic how constitutional originalists can not see how their backwards looking glass renders them unable to see how very unable that flawed document is to meet the needs of the current times.
  14. Agreed. I think both Biden and Harris need to stand aside. The D’s need to get serious about what is possible and nominate two centrist white males. We’re no longer fighting the good fight. Now we’re fighting for survival. Part of being a grown up is willingly doing what you don’t want to do.
  15. Jerry, were you angry at her stubbornness and selfishness before she died? Notorious RBG, indeed.
  16. Of course it was sarcasm. And when did your wife wake up? Was it after Ginzburg died of one of the 19 cancers that were killing her?
  17. Maybe. On the other hand he might be thinking: "Ginni, baby, I love you but the law is the law."
  18. Yes.Thomas. So much for the Enlightenment.
  19. We aren't telling women that they must wear full body bags and be with their male guardian when outside or that they can not go to school or work in nearly every possible job. Not yet, anyway.
  20. It's not clear that Kashoggi didn't chop up himself after climbing into the barrel of acid. Obviously, it must be determined how he was able to secure the lid afterwards. But, as you know, MBS is a stand up guy so if he say's it's a mystery that's good enough for me.
  21. The meek are not going to inherit the earth or anything else besides a plot of sharecroppers land outside the city walls. No matter our delicate sensibilities, it is still a dangerous, fractured world filled with actors who will do anything to get or retain power. If Trump, January 6 and the right wing desire to rule permanently isn't enough to wake us up, it's over.
  22. Now it is too late to replace him without completely delegitimizing the process. Biden fucked up by not making sure the DOJ was staffed with the right people from day one. I remain hopeful but that's only my liberal DNA acting up. Odd's are we'll get our asses kicked again.
