  1. You have never met my friend and all you know of me is what I post here. Now you may have strong opinions about my world view, and fairly so, as I am without restraint in posting those views here. But you don't know me in any degree of completion that you could fairly assert that you are nothing like me. Unless, and I suspect this is true, your main focus is that we have a demonstrable dichotomy of core beliefs. There I would not disagree.
  2. You would agree 110%, at least.
  3. You've got your mix all talked up. Just because it wasn't Adam and Code in the Garden of Eden doesn't preclude either from later on conceiving something that had the ability to conceive something else.
  4. How? It’s that ol’ conservative light field again.
  5. Ken, that's a very solipsistic viewpoint. At the bare minimum we humans will never be able to know if an AI feels anything, especially if the standard is the AI feeling as a human might. I don't believe there is a requisite "why" component involved.
  6. Just goes to show that no one should be judged by how they dress.
  7. The concept is fungibility. Either you see it or you don't, I guess. Before the last real estate crash a friend had paper gains of several hundred thousand dollars on developable, and very salable, land. I told him to exit and log the win. He thought, possibly correctly although it didn't turn out that way, that I was exiting too soon. He held on and lost it all. Like you, he was sanguine about it saying it was only paper gains. I, on the other hand, banked modest but very real profits.
  8. Negative. A $100 chip gets you $100 at the cashiers window when you exit the game. Lose it at the table and you just lost $100. Simple.
  9. You caught the overturning of Roe, yes? That was a 50 year precedent overturned at the first opportunity by 3 Justices that testified that it was settled law. Some believe that the SC is working......never mind.
  10. Just look at these beaming asshats. OK everyone, now that we have women well on the way to wearing burkas and cancelled the idea of gun sanity what say we make voting a lot more difficult for certain Americans. What a disaster.
  11. If you lose it, in an absolutist sense, it will no longer be yours. I eschew the idea that it's playing with the houses money. It's not theirs, it's yours. I watched a lot of people not log a win and end up with skittah.
  12. The value of your current crypto holdings is your money; if it goes to zero you will have lost your money. That's reality.
  13. Discrimination against visual learners! There should be a law!
  14. Did you mean a humor emoticon? Don't need them, thank you. I'm not sure why you came to me for enlightenment on the topic, I barely know an algorithm from the rhythm method, unless you're one these guy's who writes a swell reply and then looks around for a place to post it.
  15. But was it involuntary? That's the problem with history, it's so long ago that memories can't be trusted. For all we know they wanted to come and still owe us for the boat ride.
  16. I just feel terrible for all of the people who will still be alive. What a tragedy.
  17. Oh, he doesn’t mean that anymore than anything else. He’s simply following the R playbook and prepping himself for regretfully supporting Jim Jordon this year and Trump again in 2024.
  18. Not going to work. Rule #1 of coercion is don't bluff. Right now, that's all they have.
  19. Yes. Unfortunately skydiving is like candy bars: no one has a clue how much crap they're actually buying.
  20. What was stupid was, and is, the right wing refusal to recognize the enormous benefits of some form of basic national healthcare. You'd be better calling it McConnell Care: it was your peeps that made any more sensible plan, including Medicare for all, an impossibility. So we got the ACA, well, thank you very much.
  21. Sorry to be the one to break bad news but most folks are on the teetering edge of some form of larceny most of the time. For some it's the tiniest thing that causes mental anguish like the guy who told me he used the same coupon twice at the Safeway self checkout. Poor bastard probably got therapy. Others only pretend to put money in the poor box, others go bankrupt every 7 years, or don't pay back loans to family, and others try to negotiate down contracts signed in good faith. Not everyone needs to completely impoverish their fellows to feel good about themselves, but they are all around and watching you all of the time.........
  22. Well, you're here in the nick of time. Assuming you are the lawyer, and not another last minute sock puppet, please enlighten us with what 61 judges could not.
  23. airdvr, let me try again. It's not about "abortion" per se as some abstract stand alone issue but about the real suffering that the ruling will cause for a lot of innocent people. Not just the women, although their interests should be paramount, but the impregnator, their families and on and on and on. What you guy's don't seem to get is that the welfare of people we don't know is important to us because we know that the benefits of organized society depends on suppressing the reptilian part of our brains and looking out for each other. If it's not your hearts desire to see organized society disintegrate then step back and look at the actual effects of Republican policies, not the FOX News drivel, in America and ask your self which party is more likely to help folks and continue our fragile experiment in government by the people.
  24. In the words of Ronald Reagan, "There you go again." We aren't concerned about the definition of a women, that's just another puerile Republican canard. We don't give two hoots, we simply think people should be happy living the one real life we have not the pretend one to come which drives right wing legal thinking. And, yes, we often do turn off our base. That's just the way it works when your base has more thinking individuals than obedient drones.
